The main reasons to use windows 7 over windows 10 1). Windows 7 is stable 2). It is compatible with a lot of programs that worked for windows xp 3). It does not spy on you or force computer breaking updates on you. ( yes I am talking about the windows ten update 1903) 4). You still have control over your computer and not Microsoft. So no spyware 5). It is a great operating system

Thanks so much Britec09, I'm seeing a lot of questions about this install and maybe my experience with the GPT and MBR part of it can help someone as well. I couldn't make my transition to Dual Boot to work with a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro on an new SSD with GPT and my existing Windows 7 on a 7200rpm HDD with original MBR on my laptop with 2 separate hard drives (Yes, my laptop has 2 HDD slots and I couldn't switch my original HDD from MBR to GPT). So when I Simple Initialized my new SSD (remembering to name it "Windows 10" like he suggested) I chose MBR and it worked great. When I booted into the new Windows 10 Pro hard drive, I was pleased to see that my original Windows 7 containing HDD showed up as a C/: drive, and I could access all my downloaded content through Windows 10. Sweet! I did not know that. I love that I can go back and forth between operating systems and use some of my old programs that I can't get any more when I'm booted on Windows 7. Thanks for this video Britec09

This is all very incorrect. Both Windows 7 and Windows 10 (nowadays) install an extra 3 partitions in front of the disk. The way you've done it is only possible in a virtual environment. As is shown often by others, since W10 wants to install using GPT, and most Win7 users have it on an MBR disk, this causes all kinds of messy troubles. Not to mention the required BIOS settings for newer boards are completely sucky for dual boot options on an NVMe SSD for example. In short: It's a complete mess, all thanks to the shit dev team 10 of Microsoft, where they can't even fix a broken bcd with their 'Startup repair', while every dumb user can see both *active* Windows partitions by commandline. Apparently only idiots work at Microsoft these days.
@sauceru996 жыл бұрын
Oooh, I dislike Windows 10 a little aswell, yet it's nice to have since it's the newest OS by Microsoft and everything just wants windows 10
@Argonova6 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't call them "idiots". It was completely intentional. They want to make dual booting as difficult as humanly possible so that the average person won't risk screwing up their system to try an alternative OS.
@Reploidx96 жыл бұрын
Intentional or not, they're still idiots for doing so. The "average" person will still screw up the system. It always happens.
@Argonova6 жыл бұрын
I think you misunderstood, although I could have been more clear. What I meant was, the average person won't risk setting up any kind of dual boot for fear of breaking their computer. Doing so seems highly technical to the average person. And very few people are willing to outright delete their windows installation. My point was, the design is intended to intimidate people into not giving alternative operating systems a try. All in the name of keeping them "safe". Its a cut throat business decision to ensure their (effective) monopoly on the market share.
@jacobnathanielzpayag38856 жыл бұрын
According to microsoft you "can" dual-boot by installing Windows 10 first. Windows 7 can be installed using a GPT layout afterwards. But i think this is only limited to 64-bit versions of Windows 7.

I have been wrestling with this issue for a couple of days trying to get the dual boot to work. I think I stumbled upon something that may work for others. As some have experienced, I followed the steps in this video and in the end had no option to boot from multiple OS's after I finished. I could see the partition that housed the Win7 OS however it would not boot to that drive (volume) or offer the option. I tried several things to boot up to that drive to no avail. I wanted to preserve the OS because there is a program I use that isn't ready for Win10 yet. I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier but I guess it was not obvious until after...I hate when that happens. So here's the thing that worked for me; while booted up in Win10, I put the Win7 original install disk/usb medium into a drive and rebooted. As the computer was starting up I pressed F8 until I can get into F12 or some pressing F12 may work while rebooting. When I was able to get into the setting screen I changed the bootup drive to the USB/DVD (whichever you have available and contains the Win7 medium) saved the setting and let the system continue booting up. When the Win7 install screen came up I selected [Repair System] (or some text like that, I don't remember the exact phrase) at the bottom left. It rebooted the system and repaired the boot file to include Win7. A message will come up indicating that it found that Win7 needs to be added to the boot file. That solved the problem and now I get the option to choose which OS to open up at startup. Hope this helps others having this issue.

Quadro booting is also possible.

using legacy bios there is a limit of 4 partitions, using uefi you can create more than just 4 partitions (i don't know how much!) (Edit: you can create up to 128 partitions using uefi.)

Wouldn't it be better to let Windows Setup format the extra partition (or drive) itself? It likes to make a ~100MB volume for management stuff, as well as the Windows partition. I guess this only matters when using an extra disk instead of partition. Nice walkthrough. Turning spyware stuff off is a good tip too.

You can install Windows 10 within Windows 7 so that it retains the drive letter that you assign to your partition.

So what if I wanted to delete the Windows 10 C Disk and bring back all of my Storage to Windows 7? How would I do that?
@Levi900014 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure you can just do a fresh Windows 7 installation and delete all partitions in the setup (until there’s only one left which you can’t delete) then that will delete all the data on the drive. Then select the C partition. If you want to keep data on other drives don’t delete the partitions related to them.
@69erone-half504 жыл бұрын
Just format the unwanted partition drive, or delete the partition completely.

GREAT! With help of this Britec show and some others, I was able to figure out how to keep Win7 in one partition and Upgrade to Win10 in another partition on my old Toshiba laptop. THX!

Do you only get this dual boot screen when both OS are on a single hdd/ssd? I'm guessing you have to use the bios to boot each OS if they're on different drives? I've bought a budget modern pc with Windows 10, but I want to fit everything from my Windows 7 PC to the new motherboard (dedicated graphics card, extra Ram, smaller hdd, even a floppy drive.) I'm just wondering if it's best to have both 7 & 10 on the same drive partitioned or separate, and if the former, is it better to use the smaller hdd for the OSs? Thanks.

In my dual boot I have Windows 7 & 10 but have other unwanted drives showing up that I can't get rid of in EasyBCD. Any tips on how to solve this please?

Had done what was done in the video above. But when I choose windows 7 and get to the login screen. The mouse and keyboard doesn't work. Have tried changing Legacy USB to disabled, enabled and auto. One time the mouse and keyboard decided to work again and every other time it didn't.

Can you do the exact same thing with 2 hard drives but without partitioning them? Would you still get the same menu to choose your os when you have 2 different os's on 2 different hdd's?
