I've wondered how to do this for ages. Thanks for taking the time to make a video on this subject. No more featureless blanks for me!

How would you go about adding scales to the body of the fish? I don't have a problems with modeling my actual bait fish but I've never been able to figure out how to apply the scaly texture to the outside surface of my model. I too am self-taught in SolidWorks and in this instance I've even gone directly to the Solidworks website forum in search of how to do this. They were unable to help me. I'm modeling a master for my 3D printed injection molds. I've tried the method you've shown here for adding some surface features but I can only get it to work on certain sections of the body's surface. Any help you can share would be most helpful.

Unfortunately I really haven't been able to figure this out for the entire body. I've run into the same problem where it only works on certain surfaces too. I coouldn't find that much help with google either but I know there is a "WRAP" feature in SW but I haven't tried it yet and I don't know if it's only for cylindrical objects. I've been using Fusion 360 a lot more lately and I know they have a new emboss feature that looks like it might work but again I haven't tried it yet. I wish I could be of more help but if I figure it out I'll update you here.

@@TheNeverendingProjectsList I actually asked the folks over on the SolidWorks forum site for some insight as to how to achieve this. They too were unable to give any definitive answer. One of the guys there did offer up a possible solution but I couldn't get it to work so, I had to do it the hard way. The "Hard way" entailed splitting my model in half then, with the "Shell" feature converting it to a .01" thick shell. It essentially became just the skin of my original model. I followed that up by creating the texture I wanted. IN this case it was simply by typing columns of the letter "C" to simulate fish scales; then I cut that "C" texture into the shell I"d made. That was followed by mirroring that textured shell to create the entire outside shape of my modeled lure. I then mated the textured shell onto the original model and finally I subtracted it from the model which left me with the scale texture I was looking for. I just printed out my first prototype today. I haven't clean the excess resin off of it yet but from the looks of it, it worked like gang busters. I'm sure that a more skilled or knowledgeable Solidworks user could have figured out a simpler way to do it but being that I'm self-taught, I had to do it the hard way. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

@@돌쇠공주 You can try bending your own with wore forming pliers but they are really small. If you are designing your own baits I would just go with a through wire design as they are easy to bend wire for. For and example see- www.theneverendingprojectslist.com/fishingprojects/crankbait/crankbaitbuildprocess/

@@돌쇠공주 You might be able to use something like these tools with a jig then. www.theneverendingprojectslist.com/fishingprojects/wireformingtools/ worth a try anyway.

How do I do this in fusion tho :( I can’t figure it out. I want to get the gills looking good agh
@TheNeverendingProjectsList
@TheNeverendingProjectsList 4 жыл бұрын
You probably have to use the "Project / Include" feature in Fusion under "Create" to project the curved gill sketch line onto the body first.
