My wife is now convinced that I have a long lost brother! 😂 I bought a 3D printer several months ago and haven’t even opened it yet. Now I love making my own lures. I used to tie flies for a local sporting goods store and family. I was originally going to try printing holsters, snap caps, etc. But now I can try my luck at printing fishing lure molds. I mainly want to do this for my dad. He has a favorite 2 inch triple tail grub that his favorite color isnt made anymore and BPS evidently has stopped making them as I calked their base camp and they didn’t have any in their stores nationwide! So I have already ordered the plastisol, flake, etc. Now all I need is the mold. I’m thinking about using cerrosafe and making clay molds if you don’t have a 2 inch version of your triple tail mold. Whether you see this here or on your site, let me know about your mold number 463789 on cults. Love the videos! 👍

Very profession and great wasp lure . Thanks for the detail helpful information ! I have an ideal for a red wasp lure . I wanted to know if there is any chance I can get the program for wasp with 3d printer . My neighbor has a 3d printer but the experience in programming is like mine not so good . I plan on making a few wasp lures for myself and not for resale . I am wiling to pay a $fee for the program . Your lure is fantastic thanks for the video very helpful Jp Elder

Great video! Does the silicone molds tend to wear out after a few pours?
@TheNeverendingProjectsList
@TheNeverendingProjectsList 3 ай бұрын
I haven't hit the limit yet as I only make stuff for personal use... that said I have heard that around 25-30 pours it can start to degrade. I don't pour back to back pours either... I try to let the mold cool in between pours. I've also been told to dust the mold with talc power to help keep them from burning.

I know its an older video but anyways, while PLA melts at +130C, it will soften at around 60C and might deform, another video definately had that happening where u could see the infill thru top layers. Surprised how well your molds hold up tho, pretty awesome!
@TheNeverendingProjectsList
@TheNeverendingProjectsList 3 ай бұрын
I think it still works well because the plastisol cools relatively fast so it's not sitting at those high temps for a prolonged period of time. I also don't shoot the mold back to back like I would with aluminum so letting it cool a bit first helps I think.
@Rvndrkk
@Rvndrkk 3 ай бұрын
Yeah that probably helps alot. I'm using PLA as mold supports with small silicone molds for casting lead weights and surprised how well those supports hav held up as pour hole/ top of the mold gets molten lead and it gets very close to PLA, no real deformation or melting has happened unless theres actual contact between lead and PLA and even then melting has been pretty minimal

does it require vaccum degarassor for removing bubbles ?
@TheNeverendingProjectsList
@TheNeverendingProjectsList 5 ай бұрын
I did not use a degarassor for these and they came out fine. I just brush on a thin coat first so there are no surface bubbles and I also used the vibration table to try and let any bubbles raise up off the surface of the mold. I do have a vacuum chamber now though and would probably use it in place of the vibrating table.

These are great looking moulds. A little hint for your imbedded hook / weighted craws is to coat the lead with a thin layer of epoxy and letting it cure before you pour the plastisol around the jig head. This will stop the lead from reacting with the plastisol as time goes by and deteriorating into a pale mushy toxic goo.

How many casts have you gotten out of the high temp silicone? Ive done this same technique using plaster or concrete and those also lasted about 20 casts, but it costs almost nothing...
@TheNeverendingProjectsList
@TheNeverendingProjectsList 10 ай бұрын
I haven’t reached the threshold because I’m only making stuff for myself but I hear it’s about 20-30 pours before the molds will start to degrade. I think a lot is going to depend on lead temps and how quick you are re pouring. I like to let the mold cool a bit after de-molding and in between pours so it doesn’t over heat. Someone also told me to dust the molds with talc powder and it will keep them from burning. I've never looked into the plaster or concrete method but if it works the same... yeah I can see it being cheaper.

@TheNeverendingProjectsList
@TheNeverendingProjectsList Жыл бұрын
I've heard you can get 20-30 pours before the molds start to degrade but a lot is going to depend on hot hot the lead is, hot fast you repour, among other things. I was told to dust the molds with talc powder to keep them from burning so that might help too. I only make these for myself so I haven't made a ton or hit the limit of the molds yet but I do let the mold cool in between pours..
