@@JeffHorchoff Thanks you so much for your quick reply! I have been watching you wrangle bees for years! I tried keeping some about 6 years ago, but they left. My husband bought them after we took a class. He wanted to buy more, but i told him that we would have bees when God gives us some more. Whe rescued a bee tree, and watched it for a couple of years. Then they left. Now we are raising 2 grandsons, and God blessed us with a good sized swarm last year at this time. Unfortunately I made a split because the hive got really big, and then the SHB wiped them out. The bees we have now came from a cut-out from a nice home's soffet. They are strong! It is the first queen I saw without someone showing her to me. The boys are learning and helping me, too. It's a blessing that the Lord allows us to help such incredible creatures!

The bees are not mine, they hang out, eat and drink ( good life!) and fly back to their home, wherever that is. No flowers around, tried to grow some, just too dang hot. How can I feed the bees and keep them away from the hummingbirds? Is it possible? Love the bees and the hummingbirds. Thanks

I know this isn't the topic of today's video, but here goes: I gave my hive some foundationless frames a week or so ago and I just checked them. Two of the frames are drawn with almost completely drone comb and one frame is filled with drone brood of all ages. I panicked until I saw a couple full frames of worker brood. My question is what do I do with a frame full of drones? Should I just let them be? Feed them to the chickens? Move them to the outside of the box in hopes the bees use them for storage after the drones emerge?

I laugh at Dirt Rooster for wrangling yellow jackets and running through the trailer park. I'm a keeper, but I live in a place where the laws are rigged so the little guy dare not even try. After spending 25,000 dollars on equipment and out buildings(with seperate septic and well, eye washes and extra bathrooms, the big dog down the road will call the inspector or FDA to confiscate the hives for destruction if they're not perfect. After your hives are empty, they'll offer you a job at the warehouse. The beekeeper clubs are the first to snitch you out, too. It's a club around here. College grads that are getting some of that tuition money back by offering classes and staying at the motel they just happen to own. I'm thinking of moving down south, and Texas is looking better and better every day for me. Next best thing to California, I hear. Lol

Smoking bees prior to vacuuming has resulted in a ton of dead bees for me. The bees engorged on honey, due to the smoke, and regurgitated the honey while going through the vac hose into the bee vacuum. This "drowned" them. How did yours fare ? Also it is nearly impossible to get bees off brood. Did you leave many behind? Thanks.

It's rare for me to use smoke during a removal for the reasons you stated, but there are times where I have to use it, especially while opening the area where the bees are. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Howard. Mr. Ed

Do many bees drown from regurgitating honey they consumed while being smoked/going through the hose?
@JeffHorchoff3 ай бұрын
It is very rare for bees to die going through the hose, it's once inside the bee vac where they can over heat that that occurs. Thankfully, it does not happen often. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed

Dear Jess, could I ask if that is a domestic vacuum set at low power? Or specific model for task? Regards Richard UK
@roden703 жыл бұрын
It's especially designed for the job. A normal vac will kill the bees!
@JeffHorchoff3 жыл бұрын
The vacuum is specially designed to have a low suction. Here's a link to the video I made on making one for yourself. Thanks for watching. God's peace Richard. Mr. Ed kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoeWnoVpbttpiKM

Hey Jeff, How's it going Guardian of the Bees? Wanted to ask you a question, hopefully you get the chance to answer. So how long does the life of the colony of bees usually go on for? Thinking of sponsoring a hive soon.
@JeffHorchoff3 жыл бұрын
It's very hard to determine how long a colony can last because it is always changing. That being said, 4 or 5 years is a good estimate. Thanks for thinking about sponsoring and for watching. God's peace Kevin. Mr. Ed

Aren´t you afraid to squeeze the bees when you put the Lid on direct? Thanks to a fun video!
@JeffHorchoff3 жыл бұрын
I hate accidentally killing bees so I take my time and gently rock the lid as I place it down. This allows the bees to get out of the way. God's peace. Mr. Ed

what a neat job. We think so but the bees do not think so yet.

I will say this, the bees did not like what we did to them, but they have adjusted very well and are doing great now. God's peace Dyana. Mr. Ed

i did my first cut out last year. Using techniques that I've seen between you and Dirt Rooster, it was a total success. I was bummed that the queen catcher (metal) I bought in a pack of 5 from Amazon failed to keep the queen corralled. Ultimately she got vacuumed up with the rest of the hive. There are so many different catchers available but most of them have reviews that indicate the queens are getting out. Please tell me where to get a reliable catcher.
@JeffHorchoff3 жыл бұрын
One trick I use to keep the queen caged is to place a rubber band around it as soon as she is caged. Also, make sure you handle the cage holding only one of the ears. It is very easy to inadvertently, or accidentally open the cage by mistake. Other than that, I use the cheapest ones from China, less than 2 bucks a piece. Congratulations on the removal. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed

Sir, Where do you get a spray bottle with the big straw?
@JeffHorchoff3 жыл бұрын
The straw was adapted to fit the spray bottle on the job. If you ever come across one already assembled and for sale commercially, let me know, I want one as well. Thanks for watching. God's peace Bill. Mr. Ed

Won’t the the leftover comb and honey attract robbing and swarms?
@JeffHorchoff3 жыл бұрын
Yes it will, but it can't be gotten by us, so may as well let the bees get it. God's peace Larry. Mr. Ed

I think it takes a while for the rooster to process the fact that he’s been hit. Then he has to figure out where he’s been hit and then he has other factors to the equation and I don’t even know what they are. Whereas Mr. Ed assembles a team of experts and gets out of their way so they can bring their expertise to the job at hand. So I think what I’m trying to say is, you can’t really compare apples to oranges. Let’s wrangle boy’s!
