2007 Honda Accord, 3.0L V6 Special Edition owner here. We attempted and completed this yesterday and it took us 13 hours with two persons (myself and a helper). We started at 7am and finished at 8pm, this is from the time we took off the wheels to actually test driving it at the end. I'd say it would have taken us a shorter amount of time (9 or 10 hours) if not for some stubborn nuts and bolts and us not putting parts back in the same steps as they were taken off, other than that following this videos steps for my V6 type of engine is spot on and I would highly recommend it to make sure the rack comes out easiest. Here are some tips to help out to make sure yall don't waste time like we did. Tools: 10mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm, 15mm, 16mm, 17mm sockets and wrenches. A couple of long and short extensions. A couple of swivel adapters to fit the drive you'll be using and an impact of course. A cheater/breaker bar would help and I wouldn't do this alone unless you want to take more time to perform this repair. PROBLEM #1: I would highly recommend writing down every step you took removing nuts, bolts and parts that way everything goes back easy, it was a pain for us trying to put in the heat shield (it is not in the same configuration and my V6 as it is in this video). There are many steps involved and you might forget what's next. The only reverse step I would divert from would be putting in the rack bolts when you slide in the new one. Just like in this video it is easier just to hand thread them while the sub frame is lowered that way you don't have to do it from the top (you'll still have to impact them from the top). PROBLEM #2: We had a hard time removing the lines from the old rack, they were tight as hell, my helper was pushing up from the bottom with a short pipe while I was pulling on the wrench. A few times he had to hammer the pipe while I was pulling on the wrench. They came off eventually. PROBLEM #3: The steering wheel spline removal underneath the steering column for us was very hard. The sucker would not come off easily like in this video, it eventually came off with much convincing. PROBLEM #4: In this video he says to remove the four 14mm bolt at the base of the motor mount, it's not necessary (I'm guessing this was a mistake on Ol' GasDiesel Garage's part but it's understandable, there are alot of steps) fortunately we didn't remove those bolts for our rack swap but make sure you line up the motor mount back in its spot when going in reverse, putting in the motor mount horizontal bolt was fairly easy. We had to slightly raise it from the transmission using the jack to line up the bolt with its hole but it was no big deal, very easy. Of all these problems we had the worst one was #1, please write down your steps and go back in the same order or waste time! The rest was just stubborn nuts and bolts that were hard as hell to take off but it's nothing that some muscle couldn't handle. We followed this video for my V6 and it came out pretty good, hope this helps.

OH MY LORD I am so relieved. I'm building confidence in doing this job as I just replaced my head gasket a couple of weeks ago. But when I replaced my rear motor mount I stripped and forced one of the holding bolts in. Now I'm glad to see the while thing comes out as one, I'll probably get the chance to fix that thread hole too

ANYONE WITH A V6, i was able to get it done with quite a few less steps but couldn't find any write ups online. I removed tie rods, unbolt engine mount and get out of the way (i zip tied mine to the side), unbolt high and low pressure lines, disconnect mount on passanger side, unbolt rack from subframe, unbolt the steering wheel, support engine, unbolt the 6 main bolts on the subframe, just loosen them a bit at a time, then lower the engine carefully til you have enough room. You'll also have to unbolt the 2 10mm bolts on the drivers side in the engine bay that hold all the brake lines to allow them to move. Youll need to angle the steering shaft towards the front of the car, maneuvering it out and vice versa when you put then new one in. Person I'm doing it for was quoted $3500 and I can see why. Swivel socket and many extensions were a must.
@mynameisjonas1997

I didn't even have to remove the mount on the drivers side. Granted, going the extra steps might make it much less of a hassle to get out. But with two people it was not bad. Hope it helps someone, as this was a total PITA with no real write ups for the v6.

@mynameisjonas1997
@mynameisjonas1997 2 жыл бұрын
Mine was leaking onto the subframe under the rack from the metal part of the return hose. My rack was bad because it was run like that for too long, you can tell cause steering feels like shit and is crunchy and has very poor input. You can change the line without removing the rack but you will likely have to remove the rear motor mount. It's not an easy job really, but if you have extensions and tools just changing the line shouldn't be bad
@mynameisjonas1997
@mynameisjonas1997 2 жыл бұрын
@@karosirrup1014 if the rack was leaking it would be leaking from the tie rod boots, I'm guessing it's the same line that was leaking on the one I worked on though. There's a good chance your rack is OK

Can you please give me advice. I have a 2007 Honda Accord. It has about 185,000. When I took it to get an oil change they noticed a PS Leak. I assumed I filled it too much and it leaked over. My dad sprayed it off and told me to keep an eye out. Well maybe 4-5 days later there was smoke coming from the passenger side of my hood & the power steering had leaked again. Most lines, the reservoir & even my alternator were covered in the oil. I could even see some under the alternator just sitting and kind of burnt one. I have no idea what to do. Any advice ?

@GasDiesel Garage - i hope u can give me an opinion on my Honda steering issue i have, the Dealer tells me its my gearbox.... without even telling u my issue, how in the world does a gearbox relate to the steering... in summary i experience 1 click/knock/creak sound on the first moment u turn the wheel and then its absolutely silent.... but i drive for 30 second forward or keep car in stationary position, the steering makes the same sound and u can feel it in the steering also, and somewhat in your foot on the ground of the car. Ive seen comments saying shocks or mounts, for me i just dont understand how its shocks or mounts. My car is practically new and has 2500 odd kilometers on the clock, would love to know your opinion

Well 1st check your power steering fluid level. If it’s low fill it up. Then drive the car and see if the squealing goes away. If this did not fix the problem start checking for power steering leaks from the pump, hoses, and the rack n pinion boots….the black accordion looking boots on the inner tie rods…if that leaking then Yes replace the rack n pinion….any fluid leak anywhere in that system causes your issues because the system is sucking in air everytime you steer the car. By all means you can message be back on your progress.. 🙏

Check your lower control arm bushings and ball joints. Jack the front end up and shake each tire from top to bottom and side to side…make sure there’s nothing loose.

How do u bleed the system with out air in it
@Gasdieselgarage
@Gasdieselgarage 2 жыл бұрын
Just turn the steering wheel from side to side…(with reservoir cap on)…you can jack up the front end to make it easier for you. Hondas are pretty easy to bleed

Please explain where to support the engine with that wood and at what point you remove it. I noticed it not in use halfway through the video when lower the subframe.
@Gasdieselgarage
@Gasdieselgarage Жыл бұрын
Well you don’t have to take the whole subframe out so support the subframe in the middle rear under the steering rack…because remember your only loosin the two rear subframe bolts to get enough space to remove the rack n pinion.

@@Gasdieselgarage Yeah this is the only confusing part of this video. You use the lift to support the engine and remove the motor mount. Then all of a sudden the lift is gone and your under the car continuing to remove the rack n pinion. Shouldn't you have to continue to support the engine until you reinstall the motor mount? I'm just trying to make sure I don't mess something up when I replace this tomorrow.
