This is the best video I have ever seen on pomegranates. It's really informative and full of beneficial information. Thank you very much. A small tip: do not throw away the thin soft whitish membrane around the red arils as this is very nutritious(the soft skin, not the thick harder part). Thank you so much for the informative video. It is probably the first time that I watched one of your videos. Pomegranate is one of my 10 most favorite fruits. Berries of various kinds, olives, the orange sad family, and of course, avocados and cherries, apricots, and plums and guava and figs...my list of my favorite fruits is actually not limited to just 10, and I apologize to the ones I did not mentioned. When I was growing up in a landlocked country surrounded by snow-peaked mountains ... gigantic mountains and rivers were everywhere. But we also had plains parries and big chunks of desert. In the small village that I was born and grew up, everyone it seemed, had an orchard and a garden. Among the various varieties of pomegranates, three were most common: Tart, seedless, and very sweet. The main reason that I decided to comment on your informative video is actually is that when someone in the village regardless of their age and gender, was suffering from yellow jaundice, they were given the powder of the dried skin of pomegranate as home remedy. And amazingly, it often worked to treat and cure yellow jaundice. I have no doubt that any variety of pomegranate has medicinal qualities: crystals and skin all. Sultan.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your valuable comment, Sultan. Well said about juicing vs eating the whole fruit w all the fiber. Juice is concentrated sugar!! Most other videos on this topic keep saying consuming juice. And i was wondering if there are any harms consuming the seeds. Personally i like to add whole fruit in my salad. It’s delicious and as you said eliminates need of dressing. Thank you for clarifying and this useful informative video.

Glad it was helpful, Adina! Thank you for your insightful comment. The seeds, indeed, are part of the fruit and what makes it so good and healthy, just like blackberries or raspberries, which also encapsulate their seeds in a similar manner.

Nice informative video. The fruits available in the grocery stores in the north, ex. peaches, plums, and etc. are all picked green and do not ripen after picking so am wondering if the pomegranates available are also picked green.
@Healthytarian6 ай бұрын
Thank you for your feedback and glad to hear you enjoyed the video. And yes, unfortunately most imported fruits and vegetables are not picked at the right time, but premateurly, and have issues with ripening properly. It varies for the pomegranate, as it really depends on where one lives and how far the fruit must travel.

My way of juicing is to blend the fruit with water and drink everything ie I drink all the pulp and seeds (not the skin of the fruit). Juicing like this also helps me a lot because I love pomegranate but can't eat the seeds as they require excessive chewing and this destroys my tooth enamel and sensitises my gums. Juicing this way, I'm also not afraid of the fructose content :)

@Healthytarian9 ай бұрын
Great to hear you are enjoying them! And yes, if you have some pieces of the white parts that separate the seeds that won't be a problem. Normally, you would not eat it on purpose, as it is not that appealing or desirable to eat, but when we peel the fruit to get the seeds, some of the white parts may be stuck to the seeds and hard to peel off and that is okay.

@tonyartis552 : I always chewed or sucked on the pomegranate seeds to get at the juice but then spit out the seeds. I found the seeds bothered my teeth and was afraid my fillings would fail. I also wondered if swallowing the seeds would cause them to get stuck in my intestines. Was never taught how to eat them properly. We only had them for Christmas or winter holidays because they were so expensive.

Thank you for sharing your experience with pomegranates. While the whole arils of the pomegranate, including the seeds, are very healthy to consume, if a person has weak teeth, such as large fillings or other major dental work, then they may need to refrain from eating any such "seedy" foods for the integrity of keeping your dental work in good condition.

@Healthytarian4 жыл бұрын
Most definitely eating the arils (juicy flesh with the seeds). This is the only way that provides you with the whole food and all of the health and nutrition benefits. The juice is just an extract that isolates some aspects of the pomegranate and does not provide the full spectrum of benefits.

Is it true that the lable contains valuable information such as: the first number if a 9 means its organic, the first number an 8 means it is GMO and all other numbers mean it is normal?
@Healthytarian7 жыл бұрын
Partially true, as it applies to Canada and the US. Yes, all organic produce will have stickers that start with the number 9, but the number 8 is NOT used for, or a reliable indicator of GMOs. This is an "idea turned myth" that got circulated widely on the internet, and at first had the potential to be true, however almost no company wants to label their produce with the 8, as that would indicate GMO, if they don't have to, which they don't. GMOs can be labelled therefore with numbers starting with 3, 4 or 8, and only 9 is reliable as being truly organic, and thus non-GMO. To know how to avoid GMOs reliably, I will be creating a quick video guide on it this week actually on the channel, and you can also consult the IRT resources, like this one: responsibletechnology.org/gmo-education/

So if I want to mix it with greek yogurt and other fresh fruit with ice would that be ok to use?
@Healthytarian5 жыл бұрын
From an optimal health perspective, not at all. Not only is dairy not an ideal food source for the human body, but fruit and dairy together are one of the worst food combinations for digestion. Dairy has been scientifically proven also to block the use and absorption of beneficial antioxidants, which all fruits, especially pomegranate are full of. (nutritionfacts.org/video/benefits-of-blueberries-for-blood-pressure-may-be-blocked-by-yogurt/) So for most benefit, eat your pomegranate, but definitely not with any dairy.

Since it's a seasonal fruit how can I keep for future use
@Healthytarian6 ай бұрын
It is best to enjoy the fruit when it is in season and available. You can freeze some of the peeled arils for the future, but I don't recommend it as you will get the best flavor and texture from the fresh fruit. When it is not available, then enjoy other fruits at that time. Cheers!

i just love ur videos.. can u do a video on how keto diet should be done for vegetarians..
@Healthytarian7 жыл бұрын
That is great to hear, thank you so much for your feedback Priyanka. As for keto diet, the short answer I can give you is that it shouldn't be done. Carbohydrates, from whole plant foods, are the body's optimal and most efficient fuel. To avoid or to restrict them is not a healthy thing to do, as the body has to compensate in unfavorable ways, that increase risks of various health conditions, especially the longer it is done. This is not a scientifically-sound healthy diet, regardless of how well proponents of it try to make it seem. I assume you are interested in this for yourself, though I am not sure what your main reason is that led you to want to try it. If it is for weight loss, which is what attracts most people to it, the most effective way to naturally and safely lose weight is simply to: 1. Remove refined and processed carbs from the diet: cookies, crackers, breads, pastas, pizza, etc. / and isolated, added sugars and foods that contain them. 2. Remove dairy from the diet: milk, cheese, yogurt. In a vegetarian diet, these are the two most harmful things people consume, which lead to all sorts of health and weight problems. The best thing to do would be to transition to a whole-food, plant-based diet, which is most in alignment with what our human body needs and how it is optimized to work best. If you need any help with this, I have plenty of resources, from short videos that you can find on this channel, to recipes, to a full video course, and/or personal consultation option, if you require. In the end please understand that carbohydrates are NOT the problem, but the foods that people choose to eat, which include some of them, are.

Thank you so so much Evita for replying. I am so overwhelmed. You are a beautiful woman. I am in love with your videos & your knowledge. You are right, I wanted to try Keto for myself for weight loss. I am from India, height: 166 cm, weight: 70 kg. Regarding your suggestions for diet: Definitely, I don't intake refined & processed carb on daily basis. Roti: which is a flat bread made out of wheat flour is key ingredient in our diet. Regarding your comment on dairy, In India, "consuming dairy is good for health" is like a truth of life. We generally have milk & curd on daily basis. I am going through all your videos to learn more from you, but if you can point me to any video/other resource on what should be optimal diet routine for weight loss & other wise too to continue on daily basis, I would be highly grateful to you. Thanks a lot. :)

Hi Priyanka, I fully empathize as the world of food, nutrition and medicine is a bit of a "mess" to say it nicely, regardless where we are in the world today, due to the heavy focus on industry and corporate profits. Indeed in India there is a strong tendency towards bread products, dairy and oils, however, this does not mean that it is the best way to go. Whichever culture we come from, it is always most valuable and smart to take the best of the past with the best of modern understanding, and in consideration with modern challenges. Neither bread, nor dairy are what they used to be. Today, unless someone is getting raw dairy from their own healthy cow, or baking their own bread from organic, wholesome ingredients, both of these have become processed and problematic foods. So the choice Priyanka is now up to you, and how ready you are to take responsibility for your health. Sometimes this will feel challenging for our mind as our beliefs and habits are deeply ingrained, but the more motivated we are to have the right health and weight, the more we will take the necessary steps to move forward. Either way there are many steps you can take and many resources available to you, to do this journey either on your own, and/or with the support of a nutritionist or holistic health expert. The more you understand the cause of the weight gain and any additional health symptoms, and the more you understand what the human body needs to function at its best, the more you will be empowered with the right information to make the best choices, for life. Not choices that will make you buy some supplement or try some diet, that will neither provide long-term benefits nor proper health. So the very first thing I would recommend is to watch these three films, as they will be the most important start to understand the right diet for human health and why there is so much controversy and confusion today: 1. Forks Over Knives (www.forksoverknives.com/the-film/) 2. What the Health (www.whatthehealthfilm.com/) 3. Hungry for Change (www.hungryforchange.tv/) Then, here I list all of the ways in which I support people to have the right info and help on their journey, with options that suit any learning style, time constraint and financial ability: www.evitaochel.com/post/nourish-your-body Best wishes!

Hello Sylvia. That all depends on where you live. In general, in North America, whether Canada or the US, pomegranates are most available in stores in the late fall and winter months. In some stores, however, you may be able to find them year-round. Again, it all depends on where you live and how big and capable your grocery store is when it comes to importing various foods. Thank you for your positive feedback and best wishes!
