Chef Maria Rocks. What a great series this is turning into. I am not an athlete, oh no, not even close. But I do love riding my bike. I try to get in 50 to 80 km a day in the summer. I'm hibernating during our cold wet Vancouver Island winter now, but come the warmth of spring, I will be back out. Going to take some of this knowledge and put it to use. Thank you Maria and Mercedes.

Yes! I’m excited to try the frittata bites, peach lassi and nut bars. I’m a student-athlete so these are some portable and tasty meal options when I’m on the go!

Just like the fritatta I love the portioning out meatloaf in muffin tins. Freeze it before you go and keep one wrapped in your pocket to thaw it before you want to eat it. I wrap them in tin foil for a trip and reheat them by steaming the tinfoil package with minimal water. Also homemade sausage is great in those little patties.

That is such a good idea! Thanks, Melissa! 😋

Good information here even though I have the palate of a child. I definitely feel the performance and stamina increase when I eat what I _should_ instead of what I want.

I’m totally with ya on eating what we should eat and not always what we want. It takes some work, but we can condition our body and palate to actually “want” what we “should” eat, but it’s definitely a process 😀

Fantastic as ever ❤️, even the little wasp wants a bite! Chef Hines, pardon a completely unrelated question but are you Buddhist? I am loving your eternal knot on your arm! Your philosophy towards food seems very zen - would all make sense :). I am Buddhist but not very far along on the path yet lol
@chefmariahines67593 жыл бұрын
Hi There! Yes, it is the Tibetan Buddhist symbol of an eternal knot. I’ve been studying Buddhism for over 20 years, so also not far along the path ;) Be Well, Maria

@@chefmariahines6759 ahh that’s wonderful. One of my fav things about the Buddhist way of looking at the world: you start exactly wherever the hec you are. From there, there’s always progress to look forward to :)

You’re not wrong Roy. Sustainable whole food products can be expensive for sure. They tend to provide our bodies with more of what we need (Good proteins, healthy fats, fiber, etc.) so I personally find I don’t need to eat as much of it, then if I eat cheaper foods that are a bit more processed. I also notice that I sleep better, have more energy, and my joints hurt less, so there’s a bunch of added benefits. Not sure if ya have a Grocery Outlet near your house, but that have incredible deals on sustainable/organic items 👍🏾
