I’m the guy that runs the edger on our landscape crew. I’m very picky and ever blade must be cut perfectly all the way to the corners and I also do the leaf blowing which means all dirt and grass must be taken out of the edge for best look. I’ll change blades at least once a day and adjust the wheel height through out the day as it wears. Nothing beats edging a nice thick lawn with a fresh blade. Sunglasses and headphones are a must! Do it enough times day in and out like me and I’ll run bed edges and concrete with the wheel hardly ever touching the ground 😎 nice vids my man

Great job on showing the differences of edgers and results. I used to use a bladed corded edger for years with great results Black & Decker . When it finally burnt out I wanted something cordless but cheap so I went with their 40v trimmer edger and to my surprise the string trimmer worked well and found the key to a crispy edge is how often its done. Mowing every other day and edging at the same time keeps it clean and crisp so it never gets out of shape. Does a blade work better yes but not necessarily needed with consistency .
@RonHenry
@RonHenry 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks stiperman. I'm seeing other people using the bladed edgers. I imagine the blades last longer than the stick edger blade. Probably does a really nice job due to the extra weight too. With practice you can get a really tight line with a string trimmer. I've just had a few oopsies over the years, so I've gone to the stick edger. Thanks for chiming in man. Appreciate you watching.

Cold season you get a bit more height to work with. When I edge with a trimmer, the edge is already maintained, I keep a slight angle away from the grass so you mostly just hit the dirt itself. With nice concrete edged you can get the spinning trimmer string to ride into the edge, so I can be less accurate while moving faster(running sometimes lol) and the edge comes out crisp.

Hi Mercury. The best advice I can give is to keep the string trimmer as far away from the fence as possible. It's something that just takes practice so that you're not running the trimmer too close which will cause lots of string breakage and damage to the fence. Heya Clay. That's a good question. I've never actually edged against asphalt. You might have to adjust the stick edger so it doesn't dig into it, but once that's done I still think you'd likely get a better result with a stick edger. Might be wrong on that one though.

I like to get a fresh blade to dig a mini ditch along the asphalt and keep that edge going. After a couple go arounds and getting all the dirt blown out of that “ditch” it starts to look real good

Ron. Which do you prefer: Stihl or Echo?
@RonHenry
@RonHenry 3 жыл бұрын
Stihl all the way Higgie Pop. Stihl is more commercial grade and comes with a price tag to match. That said, the guys I know with the Echo PAS really like it. You can also get fully kitted out with the Echo system for around $500. No chance of that happening with Stihl. You can get a great result with either setup. Mainly comes down to budget and preference. Appreciate you watching.

Edger is the way to go. Occasionally when I need a person to be hired for my yard work, I delete him the second he tells me that he edges with a weed eater.

Whenever I use my trimmer to edge I screw it up and introduce weeds to that area, so when I get an edger I will use that.

If you're in the Atlanta area Jermal, you can get one from Jerry Pate Company. Ask for Joey. Other than that, check craigslist or Facebook marketplace. There are often reel mowers for sale there. Hope this helps.

@@jermalatkins8734 Which one did you buy? If you can find a pre-owned Greensmaster or JD, you can usually find someone local to work on it. I would call a local golf course and ask them. Even if they don't know who services reel mowers, one of them might be willing to do a grind for you. Let me know if I can help with anything else.

@@RonHenry I had an older greens master so when I tried to get parts for it the repair guy told me it was too old of a model to get replacement parts for. That was the issue I ran into with getting mine off of Craigslist. If you buy a swordsman, true cut, or a California trimmer the only issue you'll run into is who can actually fix them for you when you when into issues.

I’m sorry man. You can get a newer unit but will probably mean ordering online from someplace like prairie turf. That’s where I got mine. Sorry you’re having to deal with this kind of headache.
