Once saw a guy named Treston Shull squat close to 1000 this way at the old school Supertraining gym. I remember being uncomfortable looking in that general direction until he was done. I wouldn’t have expected to feel so much intensity, just within myself, being in the same space as a guy squatting a bar with 45s stacked to the ends.

This one is always going to go over my head on how it affects the lifter differently than a banded lift. To the layman such as myself, both are designed to add resistance the further you move from the bottom.

My gym doesn’t have the catcher bar but the catcher straps in the power racks. Would that work as an anchor or is there too much give to it?

I truly never understood the difference between chains/bands vs lightened with bands. The way I think about is like this. At every step in the movement there is a certain static load. Lets talk in terms of percentage of ROM At 0% ROM chains will be adding all their weight, bands will not be removing any load. At 50% chains and bands might be roughly equal. At 100% ROM chains will add nothing, bands will be taking as much as they can. Does the force curve really change that much between the two methods? In any-case, thanks for the content.
