Thank you so much for this video. I live in a small 2 bed older home, and had my heat pump set on Heat, 21 degrees, and Quiet mode. But noticed it blew cold air from time to time. After watching your video, I now have it set on Heat, 21 degrees and auto and am amazed at how warm the room has stayed. I am very mindful of my electricity bill (I am a pensioner) so I am hopeful my bill won't escalate. xx

I proved to myself that leaving the heatpump on all the time over winter was cheaper - no more expensive so agree with you! I only have single glazing and curtains on some windows but have a small house and found that kept me warm enough in living area and took off the majority of the chill in rest of the house. Although could do with another one there. Thanks to Clint for this explanation as sometimes they blow cold air (which I hate) and so will check the auto setting is for fan only. For hot days I wouldn't leave it on whole time just when needed.

Brilliant, thanks for that, batteries now not a problem. We also know to keep it going at 16. We have run ours on Heat and auto fan but with the minus temps lately we noticed its been blowing in cold air not warm air. Can you tell me why and what I can do to stop it. Hubby suggested reverse cycle to de ice the coils??
@CheaperWaysNZ
@CheaperWaysNZ 2 жыл бұрын
Ok so the cold air blowing can happen and your hubby is right, the unit will put itself on reverse cycle to de ice the coils and that's when you'll get the cold air for a bit - worth checking the outdoor unit and make sure there aren't any blocks of ice or anything like that visible as it could mean it needs more gas. Clint's dealt with a lot of units being installed by electricians that just don't put quite enough gas in which means the units really struggle over winter - not necessarily what's happening with yours but something to bear in mind.

Hi guys, recently discovered your channel and really enjoy your content! I was hoping to could ask for some advice around home ventilation. I’ve been asked to install a heat transfer system in a family members home (I’m a sparky by trade) it’s a decent sized 4 bedroom home with double glazing and reasonably good insulation. They have an existing would burner which is the main source of heating for the house, they also have an existing DVS system. Do you guys have any tips on how to best integrate a heat transfer system into this setup. Cheers
@CheaperWaysNZ
@CheaperWaysNZ Жыл бұрын
I'd have a few questions like what kind of DVS (one that mixes some fresh air or total fresh air system or just circulates/cleans existing air etc) ... but you might want to have a look at another video we did if you haven't already where we go over some heat transfer system questions that could be of help. Kind of hard to say without looking at it to be honest! kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3arnmmpnq1joMk

Ok so in the bottom right corner there's a little circular clock button. If you press it once and go through the up/down Select button in middle the display will rotate the days of the week on the bottom left, then press the clock again and it'll go onto the time (it's set at a 24hr clock) then Select up/down to choose the right time and press the clock button again. For the timer press the On button (just above the wee clock button) and it'll come up with a time to switch on (Select button again to choose the time) and on the left side there's the Off time select button ... hopefully that'll help you figure it out! 🙂

Lots of references to the size of the heat pump being appropriate for the home. How do I know if my unit is the right size for my home? I have the Lennox MWMA model for a one level 1000 sq ft home.
@CheaperWaysNZ
@CheaperWaysNZ Жыл бұрын
Just on a rough calculation you'd want an 11kw heat pump (I think yours might be 7kw?), but of course there are a lot of variables like insulation, windows, curtains etc. Where you put your highwall and airflow makes a big difference as well. Here in New Zealand it's quite common for people to put a main heat pump in their lounge area and maybe a smaller one at the other end of the house (in a bedroom or hallway) to make up the difference, which works quite well.

What’s the best energy saving setting and temp for a hot summer
@CheaperWaysNZ
@CheaperWaysNZ 2 жыл бұрын
You'd want it on cool setting not auto, and unlike heating it's generally best if you just turn on and off as needed instead of leaving it on all the time - and obviously if you have windows open turn it off or you're just paying to air condition the world!

Im wondering im not home and i put the heat pump on auto and eco i dont know if its the right way to do that since im not there. Its winter time....i cant go lower than 16 so i click on eco. Can you tell me if its good ..?
@CheaperWaysNZ
@CheaperWaysNZ 8 ай бұрын
With the temperature you want that on heating, and eco is only really useful if your heatpump is oversized, so better to just have the fan on auto speed

If you have got double glazing, underfloor and insulation above that is good but no insulation in the walls then the heat loss would be bad enough to not run it all the time. I know you can get that insulation blown in now. A little micathermic heater heating the smallest room you got I think is the most cost effective way to do things, or a wood burner but the effort involved getting it going and then feeding it the firewood and all the ash and mess and splitting the wood and so forth. I did run the heat pump today for like 3 hours just so the wood burner could catch up but then turned it off and I'm thinking with a little micathermic heater you can turn it on and off at will and it wouldn't really matter because there is no compressor that needs to enlighten itself to the world by using a lot of power to get going. I say wall insulation would make the place too air tight and would have to fork out for an air filtration system so I feel like winter is 2 or 3 months at its worst so between the cost of wall insulation which I'm not sure what that would be for a 3 bedroom house and this fancy air circulating thing you're spending quite a bit on things that people don't see. I have to say though that I really need to run it on dehumidify mode for a bit. Also the whole reason I got the woodburner was the heat pump I got is too small for the space.
@CheaperWaysNZ
@CheaperWaysNZ 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah sometimes it's all a balancing act and just doing what you can afford when you can afford to do it! I love our woodburner as it works well with a heat transfer system - but then of course Clint is in the industry so could set that up on our budget, plus we cook and heat water on the fireplace so it has double use! Also some people have to prioritize differently depending on if they have kids or are happy to just put on an extra jersey etc.
@Battleneter
@Battleneter Жыл бұрын
" A little micathermic heater " typically runs at a massive 2000 watts and for that you get around 20% of the heat output of a heat pump. If you spend a lot of time in that small room and plan to keep the house a long time, buy a small heat pump. If you just want to intermittently heat a room, and don't spend a lot of time in it, sure it may not be worth the cost of a heat pump as the return on investment over a standard heater may never happen.

How come if I put it on auto fan it stops giving out warm air and goes cold? It’s only warm with the fan up high
@CheaperWaysNZ
@CheaperWaysNZ 2 жыл бұрын
Ok that does sound strange ... could be something to call a technician about to have a proper look at unless you're happy to just have it on high fan all the time, but yeah the auto fan shouldn't make the air blow cold!

Would a under powered heatpump cost more to run
@CheaperWaysNZ
@CheaperWaysNZ 2 жыл бұрын
Yes that's right - cheaper to buy initially, but would be constantly working harder to heat a larger area so would end up using more power to keep the room warm. A larger heat pump is designed for a larger area and won't need to work as hard so uses less electricity.
