I did it. It works. To my surprise it was very little dust inside. So I believe Brother programe the machine to report the need of a Waste Box after some time. (Around 5 years). Because in my opinion it did not need replacement. Since it was probably 5% of the capacity used. Big thanks to Easy Console Fixes.

I think I read somewhere it counts the pages printed, so it treats a few lines on a page the same as a whole page of text.

You're lucky, mine is on the second full waste toner box on a printer that is only 3ish years old. First one replaced under warranty. I am here to check how to fix this because I figured it was just a box. Now I can cycle between the two and always have one available.

@@snoopdogie187 Good idea. Just do it carefully. Wear gloves, dust mask and an apron, because it is messy. If you can do it over table covered with newspaper or something. Is not difficult, just messy. Do it in daylight or with plenty light. Have a small disposeable painting brush, some paper towels, some wet paper towel and a couple of medium plastic bags with no holes in them to get rid of the dust and the used stuff.

Thank you so much for a straightforward and informative video. I am so pleased that your tip has helped so many people, unfortunately my machine seems far too temperamental. I followed your steps - several times - and I also found another video that suggested taking out a little roller in the contacts compartment. I was giving it one last chance and it worked! Hooray! only to send up the message again after printing two sheets. My waste box is only just over a year old and there was hardly any waste toner in it being a home printer. So frustrating! That is a shame, I wonder what is causing it not to work. I have had to do this twice more to the same Toner Box as it got full again and it has worked each time. Some people in the comments have said they needed to turn the printer off after resetting the box to get the message to go away.

Thanks, it worked for me for a few days after cleaning the waste (dust powder stuff), then got bad again. So I did the same thing again but used some towels and rubbing alcohol on the rollers. The roller was quite dirty as well. That seemed to fix the problem for me in addition to initially dumping the waste. Excellent detailed video!

Thank you for this video ... I have owned two Brothers printers but had never gotten the error "Replace Toner Waste Box". Of course it popped up late at night when I had a large print job that I needed to complete. I found your video, cleaned it out and reinstalled - the error message was gone. Good tips about the gloves and doing it outside, it was messy.

@@EasyConsoleFixes … I agree, when the error popped up I had never heard of a Toner Waste Box but I was sure it was not going to be free. I will say that mine was full, there was a lot of waste. I thought using an air can on it would be a good idea … not so much. The waste went every where, fortunately I was in my garage and holding it over a large trash can. I dumped it out and gave it a few shakes and put it back.

To those who try this and still get the replace wt box error, the printer also measures the resistance between the soft roller and the steel roller. When the soft roller gets coated with too much toner, the machine decides it needs to wt box replaced. Clean the soft roller carefully with alcohol and a soft cloth and you should be good.

when I opened mine, the switch was not triggered. After a bunch of trial and error, I noticed the electrical contacts were dirty, so I cleaned the contacts on the waste toner box and on the printer with a little sandpaper and alcohol and everything worked. Hope this comment helps others with the same issue.

I haven't had to clean mine yet, just checking for when I do. I thought they'd use a chip which tells it when it's full and can't be reset, so you'd have to buy a new one, it's nice to see it's a physical connector which is easy to reset.

Give them some time and they probably will make it a chip. When you have Dymo adding DRM to paper, Brother will start to feel they are missing out.

It was a little confusing about the contacts. The first view showed them touching then you spread them and then touched again. So are they supposed to be touching? I tried both ways, not touching and touching, and I still get a replace WT Box message.

The contacts should be touching. Mine hadn't reset yet so I just moved them to show would they would look like when reset. I'm not sure why you are still getting the message if you tried them touching. The printer should see it as a new waste toner box.

What I did was put the waste box in with the "switch" open(not touching) this makes the printer throw the message waste box full. Try to print a single page with the switch open and error message displayed. I then took everything back apart and closed the switch (touching) reinstalled everything and the message was gone. Hope that is clear and works for you!

Yes I used isopropyl alcohol. I'm wiping the chrome roller. Try not to touch the black one, a little wont matter but don't wipe it.

Just for those that it doesnt work, i did everything in the video, took it apart, put it back together, took it apart put it back together over and over and the message wouldnt clear. Then on one of the tries it just suddenly worked with no real reason why. So persevere with it and make sure it's all put back correctly.

Are you sure you have the little white plastic piece set to the correct position. Other than that I cant think of a reason it wouldn't work.

Whoever posted this video, should watch how others do it even more simple way. No need to remove little black lid on upper right corner at all. When you open the back cover, there is a black plastic lever on upper right corner. You just need to turn it anti clock by 90 degrees. It's safer than turning the white circle, you might break the inner black pins in the centre of white circle.

One waste toner bin solution: make sure the printer is on the properly sized flat table so that the paper tray is not pushing up under the WT bin and disconnecting the 3 pins on the side of the WT bin. Or make sure nothing is under the bin is pushing up. fml
