@@RandomKZbin123 A peraon with a PhD might be able to earn a Direct Commission to officer if their degree is of value to the army. An advanced degree in engineering or intelligence or cyberwarfare might qualify one for direct commission. There also is Direct Commission for doctors, nurses, lawyers, and chaplains. These types of people still need to complete an officer development course. If the PhD is not of value that way they probably only go in as an officer by completing Officer Candidate School.

So, I enlisted into the Army as a Specialist, but I don't have a college degree. The Army has a thing called CASP (Civilian Acquired Skills Program). I enlisted as a 68W combat medic, and because I already have my NREMT (Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician), I was able to enlist as a Specialist, and then I will also get fast tracked at AIT (16 weeks down to 8 weeks). The Army does this for only a few occupations; Barely anybody knows about this. Your recruiter probably doesn't even know about it, mine didn't. My friend did the exact same thing and told me about it. I leave for basic at the end of this month.

Army JROTC in high school for 4 years. I was a PFC in Basic Training and a Squad Leader. I got thrashed daily by the Drill Sergeants along with the other PFCs who were former JROTC kids to include one who was the Platoon Guide. Our platoon was the most squared away than the rest of the company. The 5 of us PFCs were the ones going to Airborne afterwards and got thrashed with more PT. We had a 100% qualification on rifle and everybody passed their PT tests. Our platoon pulled together and motivated each other. The guys saw what happened to the other platoons and they didn't want that to happen so we PFCs convinced everybody that we would show and teach everybody how to march, clean, everything that we learned in JROTC. The Drill Sergeants just stood with arms crossed watching us do everything and glared at everybody making sure that they were moving as we explained step by step. Organization and moving quickly was essential. The bad apples had no choice because they were being constantly being watched by them and breathing down their necks. So Army JROTC did help us as a platoon.

If you attend 3 years of JROTC and a summer encampment, and a recommendation from your cadre, you are eligible to attend BT as E-3 or PFC. In my situation, I was honored by The Daughters of American Revolution, which is an additional requirement. JROTC in high school is like a college degree (loosely) where your first year is enlisted, learning basics, formations, core military foundations, and core academics. Second year, you're advancing in rank, eligible for officer, leadership roles, staff positions (S1 through S4), and especially distinguishing yourself in ways that earn Civil awards from community, state and even spokesman opportunities. Third year, advanced leadership roles, company and battalion promotions, in my case, Executive Battalion Commander, Honor Guard Commander, Drill Team Commander, and S2 Officer. The more you excel in JROTC, going active duty as a PV2 or PFC is a perk.

moral of the story: go to school kids. side note: after enlisting, you can get an award/medal for recruitment. 1 recruit = award 2 recruits = army achievement medal just happen to know that because I'm getting the AAM before I even get to basic for recruiting 2 friends. I'm not sure about the "stacked" promotion thing to go from E-2 to E-3. I can ask my recruiter about it. The reason I *might* "recruit" 6+ people is bc I'm going to accompany my recruiter to high schools to talk to students about the army and potentially get them to enlist. He's mainly taking me for the girls to see that "girly girls" can be soldiers too, and to get another perspective than just a guy's.

If you have 4 years of HS JROTC or something like 80 college credits, you can make E-3 from the start. I had something like 89 credits going into the recruiters office and it was enough to get E-3, I also had 4 years of jrotc. You can also make E-4 if you fall under that E-3 criteria and recruit 4 people. So for example if you recruit 4 people and you have the college credits or jrotc, you can make E-4, but it won’t be till after you sign the contract and swear in as an E-3. They then file paperwork for you to be promoted at your unit.
@DrAndyShick6 жыл бұрын
pretty sure no. You must have the bachelor's degree (or something equivalent to it)
@joshradermacher33306 жыл бұрын
Andy Shick you need a 4 year degree to enlist as an E-4 on your contract when you sign the contract but after that if you fit the criteria I mentioned, you can have paperwork put in at your RSP unit in the Guard or future soldier training while you wait to go to basic, or have it done while your at basic. The degree requirement is only to get it from the start. It’s what happened to me, I got E-3 on the contract and got E-4 for meeting recruiting referral requirements. Thus I enlisted as E-3 but was never a PFC, I was able to be an E-4

Enlisting as a band member in a regional band will get you in as an E4. College isn't required, but preferred, you just have to pass the audition. Also, if you make it into a premier band, like "Pershing's Own," you'll go in as an E6, staff sergeant. Edit: Most people in active duty regional bands have a bachelor's in music performance, while in some of the reserve and national guard bands, you can come right out of high school and make it. In the premier bands, most of the players have master degrees in music performance, and it is about as difficult as making it into a major orchestra. And in all of these bands you must go to basic training. I think two premier bands, the "President's Own," (Marines) and the Coast Guard Band, don't require basic training though.

I mean, you could probably *convince* them to get you E4 from you bringing in 3+6+12 people; because you're bringing 21 people + yourself at that point, proving you would already be qualified to lead an entire not-so-small squad, but uh, good luck getting that organized before basic; you might be able to handle your duties as an E4 organizing it before attending basic, but your subordinates might not be that efficient, the odds would be against you. Note: This would likely qualify under some sort of waiver.

I'm just worried, I feel like I should be squared away as soon as possible, but I feel it might be kind of hard not knowing anyone. And getting the feel for things on base.

I was told that since I already have my CDL class A, that if I join as 88M then I can go in as an E4

I can't really find any info on this! Smh. I believe you have to have 2 years experience first but that's all I can find online....

I went through my state’s youth military academy when I was 17. I graduated as an E3, so if I get any federal job, I’ll be at a slightly higher pay, same thing with the actual Military.

I am being offered E4 because I have my CDL. Just putting that out there.

I signed up while still in high school in the delayed entry program .After school they picked me up in an official car and I worked at the recruiter station and went in basic training as an e2,and was squad leader .We had pizza parties and it was cool because girls wondered why people were picking me up in government cars .

EDGE SIEGE If you're going to go to a 4 year university to obtain your BA/BS might as well do ROTC or apply for OCS and become an officer, at that point enlisting would be somewhat of a waste
@kevintsuyoi9017 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say it is a waste. If you have one particular job or field in mind, enlisting is really the only way to ensure you get it. It is still possible to get the field of your choice as an officer, but it is much more difficult and most of it is out of your control.
@Sublimnalxx6 жыл бұрын
A waste? Lol nobody respects an Lt fresh out of school. Mustangs make the best officers bar none.

Civil Air Patrol and the Billie Michel Award comes with a rank... so basically once you get to a certain rank in the CAP you come in 1 rank higher!

You can enlist as an e5 if you sign the rotc contract and for some apparent reason you drop out they are gonna make you either 1 pay back the scholarships or 2 serve as an e5
@SPK-kg8ml3 жыл бұрын
Things are different now, I’m starting as an E-3 because I speak 2 languages, and I recruited 2 people, one of them already graduated and the other still at school just like me. Waaay easier to rank up 📈

I never knew if you recruited people that would get you incentives I was just recruiting for the heck of it lol

You can also enlist as an E-4 if you join as a 42R. The onlt requirement is for you to complete an AMPA to be eligible for the job.

What if you’re an Eagle Scout with multiple associates degrees (2year degree) ?
@LORDMORTICUS Жыл бұрын
You can enlist into the Army as E-4? I was in the Marines. For us at my time, it was impossible to enlist higher than E-2. It was possible to make E-3 if you were already going to be E-2 and we’re meritoriously promoted in boot camp . For Marines though, E-4 is non commissioned officer. You do not come out of boot camp or the school of infantry as an E-4. So that is possible in the Army?
@TheTsar693 жыл бұрын
You can join at E-3 if you get 2 people to join from your recruiter (At least in the National Guard)

Quick question, I'm likely going to join the reserve . Do promotions come slower in the reserve compared to active duty, or at the same rate?
@kennedy259903 жыл бұрын
In regards to the JROTC route! Not sure if they just recently changed it but for those who have done Civil Ai Patrol (basically AF JROTC) you must achieve the rank of 2nd Lt before it’ll count towards your promotion! Been in for 5 years myself but they said it wouldn’t count unless I became a Lt in the program.

I love all your videos and have been a huge help. One problem I had when enlisting is I went to Ft.Stewart youth challenge academy which was a five and half month military academy to obtain your high school diploma or ged but after returning home and talking to my recruiter he said I didn't qualify to make E-2. I am just wondering why.

When I heard about this I immediately thought it was a terrible idea. When I was an E-5, I expected a PFC to know basic military courtesy, how to take care of him or herself and their equipment, and how to perform his or her job. So now we have E-3s and E-4s who don’t know the first thing about being a soldier? Explain that to me.

I have been waiting a long time to get in the military, but I recently went to Meps. I asked other army future soldiers if they did future soldier training and they were like what’s that? No lie I had one kid tell me “Oh I’m not too interested in ranking up” I don’t think most recruiting stations do future soldier training, be it the physical portion of it or talk to their recruits about the online classes.

@Makin3m7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I went to the Texas Challenge Academy and they let me go as an E-2. I was kinda disappointed though because unlike JROTC, it was an everyday thing. You lived there. Getting E-3 seems better assuming you had good progress there.
