Don't want to create a new patio because of this single 4x4 post. Uses astroturf and pavers and creates something that will surely be ripped out and replaced by someone who just shores up the corner of the deck and pours a new patio

I really don’t like the look of the artificial grass. I would have butt those stones together, I think it would have blended in better.
@donabele12432 жыл бұрын
Magical switchover of the bucket from a digging bucket to a clean-out bucket! 5+ inches of crusher run plus slate dust - that's A LOT of material; doubt the original concrete pad was laid with that much base and especially those pavers to the left! The layout was just plain dumb for a patio where you want tables and chairs - they will inevitably always wind up in those four-inch gaps! And the faux green grass is going to fade into a nice neon color - very natural, will compliment that expensive granite.
@likearockcm2 жыл бұрын
I'd have to agree, Don. That look in my mind is only good for a walkway. I would have done s concrete (stamped if you want it fancy)to flow with existing patio and cheaper to boot.
@johnmyers4732 жыл бұрын
I have to agree, they also should’ve done the small paver area also it looks like three unplanned add on areas. You are correct every chair leg will be in at 4 inch gap. May have cost less to just do concrete and stamp it.

Ok. Just my opinion, but all those strips of grass will make it more irritating trying to get a table and chairs to sit right. And that’s what she wanted the extension for! I’m all for natural stone look but ther was already concrete there why not just make a new form and extend the concrete out!

I've always liked the look of grass between pavers but more for a walkway rather than a patio. This just looks like a mish mash with all the different elements. May have been better all granite pavers or all cement. But either way, the bricks should have been removed.
@alexknight71912 жыл бұрын
Agreed 100%. The final product looks like they slapped in some pavers as an easy extension but they actually had heavy equipment and a lot of infill material. If you're going to do all that work it should look much better than that. Mark has not been the best addition to this show.
@rupe532 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you can put tables and chairs on that, but your guests will move them an inch and fall into the spaces. I still want to know why they dropped down an inch. To me, that's a trip issue waiting to happen. I would have been more impressed if they could have matched the concrete and poured a second pad, then maybe done this as a replacement for the brick pavers on the side.
@MrWaterbugdesign2 жыл бұрын
Oops, I posted the same. I had expected extending concrete. An option, but I'm not a fan of concrete so the granite could have been laid with no gaps or grouted. More work but a nice result imo.
@rupe532 жыл бұрын
@@MrWaterbugdesign ... just my opinion, but grout at 1.25" x 4"" wide on top of stone dust would probably crack / chip in a few freeze cycles. They could have laid those tiles on wet concrete and filled the gaps in level for a sturdy base.

I was thinking the same thing esp with what she was planning on doing. It does look great though except I would have gone with monkey grass-not sure if it is called that anymore as filler. Also, why dig so deep and why no border like a cement or something to keep them in place for a few years around the outside of it but hey to each their own. It was nice to see a customer look like they were actually working hard rather than past videos where the client doesn’t seem to be working up a sweat.
@rexmons61442 жыл бұрын
They should have just used the grass as spacers. There are spots that look like the grass is bulging out from the stones being too close to one another.

This patio addition isn't what I call a real patio. It is better suited as maybe a drive path or walkway. The way I would have approached it is supported the deck above with a temporary support. Then ripped the old patio out and poured the whole patio. I might have maybe stamped it and stained it to look like stone ,brick or something. I know they want to use the deck but what would a week with out it be such an interruption. The other thing if they temporary supported the deck properly then it should have any in convience.

When she set that granite piece @7:24, she sunk the corner about 3" deep into the stone dust. Probably shoulda edited that part out. This video should get "accidentally" deleted. Come on ToH, you guys are better than this.

The problem is the grass isn't as tall as those stones are and so it doesn't fit between the stones very well. They should have put in a filler of sand or more of that crushed stone and then put the grass on top of that.

Wtf.... that was weird. At least could have added stairs directly to the stone patio side, maybe with an interim small deck skirt for some flow to the house and continuity.
@probablynot13682 жыл бұрын
I would have removed that small area of paver stones and wrapped the new patio around to the stairs. Yes, nowadays, the better (and more expensive) artificial grass has a much more natural feel and blend of colors. I wish they’d placed more compacted base filler between the granite slabs before installing the turf, as there would be less tendency to roll one’s ankle on a misstep between the slabs. Better yet, just do away with the grass and bring up the level of the crushed granite to be flush with the slabs. On a side note - There are too many dissimilar materials, textures, patterns, and colors competing with each other, such a a concrete walkway, paver stones/brick, coated concrete, new granite slabs, and a weathered deck and raised planters. Perhaps painting the banister and rails on the deck railing, as well as the side stair risers and the deck skirt, the color of the house trim? Paint the deck a shade or two darker than the house body. Move the raised planters perpendicular to the house, in the grass by the BBQ grill. Stain or paint the raised planters to match the color of the small table to help balance the color.

Is it me or is this a massive tripping hazard? What can they do on this surface that they couldn’t just do on a regular lawn? Can’t put a table on it, can’t put chairs they’d constantly be getting caught, then you have fake grass with real grass. I’m sorry but this is awful. They should extend their deck out and across the back of the house and put a patio in front of that, maybe bumped out on one side or another.
