I'm almost 50 now. Been an avid surfer since I was 12. I'm a cold water, Pacific ocean waterman. From SCUBA to body surfing to living on a boat. Mother Ocean is the meanest and most beautiful woman in existence. Nathan, what I wouldn't give to have someone share this incredible knowledge when I was learning. You're sharing pure gold here. Of course the young can't appreciate the value of your info...but I hope you know that we get it. Everything you said here was not new to me, or many of my age, but I appreciate what you're doing for the young or new. Bravo. Much respect. Keep doing what you're doing.

So good man, wow! You should put time stamps in these with titles (you can just put them in the description like this 0:00 - introduction 1:47 - X impact 3:53 - Y impact etc) this is such a valuable video resource and the more people can reference it the more helpful it will be. Just a suggestion, but dude...SO good. Thank you!

We naturally do this on bodysurf to avoid the smach, but never realized could be used on surfing too 🤪

Great tips as always Nathan Florence! Thanks a lot! I was wondering what the disadvantage of shooting my board forward and jumping feet first off the back. That way the board doesn't have the chance of hitting me in the head. Is there a higher chance of board snapping? Or something else? I live in a punchy beach break area and do this often in closeouts or when I can't exit correctly.

What an absolute beast of a video. Thank you Nathan ! A Spanish surf instructor I know lost his right eye when falling in the barrel. The nose of his board scooped it out when he jumped forward and thus I’m utterly terrified of the idea of making contact with the nose while ”jumping forward” as I’m a newbie in the barrel department, but eager to improve. You guys have any tips on how to “make sure” you avoid the board while performing the jump? Especially backside seems tricky when u don’t have time to jump back / steer the board away from you. Thanks in advance and greetings from Finland 🇫🇮

Great video, rewatching prior to a barrel trip, and not to be a dxck, what you are discussing at 10:50ish is that water molecules have a strong bonds: hydrogen bonds, so what your describing sounds like it make sense, I've yet to experience that, but sounds scary.
