Organic food takes twice asany resources to grow and costs twice as much for the consumer. That isn't the answer, it would make the situation worse. "Organic" is a marketing slogan used to sell people more expensive food and doesn't mean sht. Did you know there are pesticides certified for use on organic food? It's not as so called "natural" as you think.

To think that an even more industrialized food system would solve the problems created by an industrialized food system is a very strange logic. We have to move in the opposite direction, get rid of the machinery and synthezied products, get our hands dirty and collaborate with nature on its own terms. Mankind's separation from the natural world is what is causing the ecological disaster - we have to move towards being integrated with the rest of the living planet. The future Mr Jarvis advocates is a Brave New World-kind of dystopia. The amount of energy needed for these synthetic food factories is enormous. Nature produces all the food we need for free, only through the natural process of photosynthesis.

Love some of the ideas in this video, but if the site is up-to-date, Andy Jarvis currently works for the Bezos Earth Fund, so it's hard for me to judge how realistic some of these innovative ideas are. Unfortunately, there's a huge conflict of interest happening when one of the world's biggest billionaires hands out so much money to climate-related NGOs and charities. Read The Guardian article, "The Bezos Earth fund has pumped billions into climate and nature projects. So why are experts uneasy?" or other similar sources if you're wondering why.

Did this guy just completely miss the fact that all plants have protein and as long as you get sufficient calories you will have sufficient protein? Or that our obsession with protein is not based in science? We really need to talk about why people aren't eating beans. According to “The end of Craving” it could be partially caused by added B vitamins in processed foods messing with our natural cravings for beans and whole grains. Anyways just eat plants and you'll save money and the planet. And government should subsidize fake meat but not fruits and vegetables and beans and nuts? Come on…

Humans' natural diet is meat and veg. Humans are not meant to eat grains, especially on the scale modern humans do. Most teeth issues are from how sticky starches from grains are to our teeth. My goal is less sugar intake.

We have a protein fetish in this country. Most people, including vegans, get far more protein than is optimal. All whole plant foods contain all the required amino acids in varying amounts, and it adds up. You do not need "alternative proteins". You do not need to "combine" proteins. Your body is good at conserving and making use of the protein you eat. Eat a varied plant based diet, and include some beans or tofu and you will get more than enough of all the required amino acids.

1:47 i think this sentence can be misleading: he says animal agriculture accounts for half of agriculture's emissions, but he doesn't say that the other half (plant agriculture), a lot of it goes to feed animals, so if we ate those plants, the ecological benefit would be huge. search on youtube "does beef cause climate change? - nutrition made simple". the guy is an MD, PhD, and unbiased science communicator. in this video, one of the studies he presents literally says that if the world went vegan, it would cut global emissions by a whopping 28%. it would be "transformative" for ecology, as the study puts it. back to this ted talk here, what can i say, it's a politically correct talk, careful not to tell you what to eat, in order to not bother the rich and powerful animal food industries, but the truth is that animal agriculture needs to die as soon as possible, if we want to minimize the consequences of climate change. we are heading toward ecological crisis. we are already late. we WILL have a global warming of at least 2°C, which is bad. so why doesn't everyone talk about veganism? why isn't it taught in schools, universities, and on tv? because meat, fish, egg, and dairy industries are powerful. therefore the problem also has to do with capitalism, at least in its current state. you see, it's a tricky situation we're in. animal industries, like all industries, have incentive to keep growing, but in doing so they're destroying ecology. if one doesn't feel ready or able to go vegan, the least we should all do is avoid red meat, as that is by far the worst food for the planet. that being said, i'm not certain that a vegan diet will lead to good health and good mental health for everyone in the long term. i'm not certain of that. so if you wanna try veganism, do it and see how it goes for you. on paper or in theory, a well-planned vegan diet is the best diet overall (for health, ecology and ethics). taste depends on your cooking skills. i'm currently trying to learn from Simnett Nutrition's cookbooks (he's a vegan youtuber). don't go vegan if you don't know what you're doing in terms of nutrition. the recommended healthy food groups (whether you're vegan or not) are the following: whole grains, legumes, fruit, vegetables, nuts and seed, non-tropical oils. i'm currently trying veganism myself and i take the following supplements: a multivitamin, choline, vitamin d, algae oil, and most importantly vitamin b12 (2000 mcg of cyanocobalamin once a week on an empty stomach). for calcium you can include tofu and calcium-fortified plant milks into your diet. feel free to work with a nutrition expert. enter your typical diet on Cronometer to familiarize yourself with all the nutrients and to get an idea if your diet is nutritionally complete. you can also google "optimum nutrient recommendations" to see what nutrients Dr Greger recommends for vegans to pay attention to. you can also google any nutrient followed by the word "ods" to have institutional information on that nutrient and in Table 2 you get an idea of the foods richest in that nutrient. use chat gpt (or other similar ai) to help inform you. that's all i have to say.

@tvuser952912 күн бұрын
@@NoExitLoveNow Sure, there are many people who eat only plant foods and they do fine. Protein isn't a problem with the right diet, as you say. B12 can be a bigger problem, but technically eating animal products aren't required for that either. Either supplements, or products from some plants/algae that can get B12 from bacteria. It's doable. Though easier if eating small amounts of animal products. What's needed is much less than what people in rich nations typically eat.

Various years ago, I read that replacing just 10% of animal feed with specific kinds of seaweed could significantly reduce the harmful gasses produced by said animals. I've never heard anything about this since. If there's a potential new _market_ for that specific kind of seaweed - provided it works - then that would be the wet dream of capitalists. If the effects are even 25% of what they claim they could achieve, it'd still be worth it. What's the status, here? Another crucial part is the _distribution_ of food. So much gets wasted - partially courtesy of 'best by' dates on the package - and/or doesn't reach the people who _need_ it. The problem here is the profit incentive; our most critical of needs are left to the whims of a few corporations. They care about maximizing profits, not maximizing the number of people who have access to food. The Dutch are world leaders when it comes to producing food with minimal input. Why isn't their knowledge used globally?

How's it possible he didn't say a single word about reducing food waste?? It amounts to roughly 30% of total production, which, guess what, is mainly concentrated in the developed countries. This also means we are basically already capable of feeding 10B people. What's the use of making new food if it then goes wasted? Moreover, using high end technology and engineering to produce food brings to centralisation and promotion of capitalism and monopolies, which is also what's happening with the multinationals owning the seeds of intensive monocultures.

While people like his boss want more slaves on earth to drive prices down, and require consistent logarithmic population growth to their endless greed, a better option is to re-evaluate the sustainability of the current economic model that depends on constant growth and stabilize our population around half of what it is now. The planet is telling us we have too many people already. In a sustainable economy where everyone benefits from increased productivity due to technology, standards of living can continue to rise. Governments and corporations should exist to prevent exploitation, protect and serve the population, not use them to create an imbalance of power so a few people can feel special. At what cost? Google "pork skyscraper China". Google "farrowing crates". Google " battery cage". Google " mulesing". These individuals pay the cost for this efficiency that makes this land area efficiency accessible. Not to mention the environmental consequences of CAFOS that make this efficiency possible that is impossible to negate. Google "animal agriculture gulf of Mexico".

Adaxum might be worth a closer look if you’re into projects with real-world applications.

I can't help wondering, why.... you start talking about protein yet, you are surrounded by leaves. This is my initial notice and I can't help wondering right away. ARE YOU A VEGAN.

@DrippyDerp What are you worried about what I think? Get off it if you don't like what I think. I hate VEGANISM. OK?

@@toni4729 You sound so angry why
@toni472913 күн бұрын
@@MazTheMeh16 I am angry, I know of too many people that get sick on a vegan diet. I have also heard (on line) of women that have, out of ignorance made their babies ill or caused them death simply by believing that a vegan diet is totally natural. I'm sorry if you think I'm angry for nothing, I'm not. It really upsets me. I'm old enough to remember when it just didn't exist.
