With sundews, the glands that secrete the strongest digestive juices are on the leaf surface. The tentacles do create some enzymes, but they will also bring the food to the leaf surface. I usually place a moist intact bloodworm length wise on the leaf, then take the leftover off a week later. Recently I also tried feeding my sundews and Pinguicula small drops of half & half. The results have been interesting! The ping absorbs the drop into the leaf in under an hour, then re-secretes whatever it can't break down. I'm mostly interested in seeing how the plant growth is affected by the different nutrient levels.

Hi Brad, thanks for your video! Your knowledge has helped me tremendously! Have you ever had a Capensis not produce dew and not curl around food? It is in the same conditions as my other Drosera and they create dew and grow just fine with no issues. I haven't tried tenting it yet, think that might be the path to take? Thanks for your time and advice as always!

hmmm, i wonder it it doesn't have anything to do with your environment, if the others are doing well. Maybe pests or may be worth checking the roots

Love this, I wonder how well the sundews will do in my area. I know winter will kill them. Guess I can try one eh? It'll have to wait though. With my few current survivals after Atlas, I've been reluctant to buy house plants even! 😂

My Drosera Capensis I’ve had for a few months was doing pretty well for a while. I grow it inside under artificial lights. It put up its first flower stalk under my watch about a month ago. While it was flowering i noticed that the plants leaves where tiny compared to its older leaves. The new leaves have dew but only grow a little bit and then stop, as if the leaves were unable to grow any further. I cut off the flower stalk and was hoping to see the plant bounce back, but it’s gotten worse. The tips of about half of its leaves are turning brown and the brown parts are spreading down the leaves. I tried cutting the brown parts off but it doesn’t work. The plant has the lighting, humidity, water, and food that it needs, but it just won’t do well. I’ve looked online and can’t find anything. Any help is appreciated.

Do carnivorous plants have flowers? or are the pitchers like on nepenthes the flower part?

They do make flowers! The pitchers are not the flower part... typically the flowers grow out of the center mass of carnivorous plants like another leaf but it is markedly different in structure

@@BradsGreenhouse Just wake one up for the shake of science and youtube! I have also a huge collection of carnivorous plants and I've been feeding them all these years with Beta fish blood worms. Small balls of worm powder inside distilled water and then fed to them. On droseras, cephalotus, etc I just drop them there. On VFTs I have to massage the trap as well. So I am curious if you are going to follow the same process. For example, I didn't know that you can just drop the powder on the drosera leaves just like that without getting hydrated beforehand!

Now there sticky sundew's, I use Green24, Adenium feed Professional Fertiliser, My sundew is producing a flower, An i only bought them about week an half ago, My Fly Traps are producing new mouth's i like too call them, Load's of em, I got them under a blue an red LED, An they are going for it, I am fascinated in the Sundew's more than the Pitcher an Fly Trap's i bought, I will be buying some more a setting up a Carnivorous corner in my flat, lol, I used too grow cannabis but the UK Gov an police have told me i can't do it again, lol, Not getting locked up again for a few plant's Even tho i use it for medical reason's, We are not allowed too grow cannabis in the UK, So i thought i would have a go at some Carnivorous plant's, Even going too start some veggies in a few weeks, Gov can't tell me i cant grow food, Or carnivorous plants, lol, It's a joke coz i believe by studying plant's regardless of what they is will always be beneficial, Like what did the Ancient people know about plant's that we do not, Plan't are medicine as well as poisons, Understanding the medical side of plants will always be beneficial....

They eat bugs in the wild.... you acknowledged this by saying if you keep them indoors where there's not a lot of bugs.... WHY NOT FEED THEM BUGS? fruit flies are easy to get, pinheads, dubia nymphs... something. Then you lost me at fertilizer. No offense but this comes off like the goofballs that work at PetSmart trying to explain tarantula care but don't know Grammastola from Aviculera because the sign says "fancy tarantulas"😢. Yikes.
