We had a winter in '14 that was minus 20 degrees F wind chill for about 2 weeks and everything survived. It gets up to 100 degrees F heat index in July and August. I put my meat eating plant to sleep from May to August, and I slowly increase its lighting every three weeks. Although mine appear to be quite healthy, in comparison, mine have a longer stem than yours; 2 inchs+ long. Is that due to lack of light? Also mine does have slight red coloration but not as "blood" red as yours. Each VFT has about 7 large traps (1.25 inch+) and many new babies are popping up in the middle, too. Hi I have a question I bought a Venus flytraps plant with short leaves and really big traps (and with a red color inside), but now the traps smaller and green , and the leaf is very long, what do I need to do to make the traps big again and red?

My son bought me a fly trap from his store, it was the best one they had. but sadly all but one trap is closed. the closed traps are empty. I put it in the window silly hoping that the open trap will catch a fly . they are numerous at the moment. I later today want to move it out on the porch with the 50 sum odd variety plants I have out there. I found a rather large water tray to put it in for the time being and I have distilled drinking water as well as brita system for back up. What else can I do for this poor plant. can a stomach hold two fly's ? she needs sun and a fat meal asap. thank you for your help . p.s how much are the b-52's ? they are beautiful.

What a fascinating plant - what happens if you put your finger in it ? 😳

I thought it closing consumes a lot of energy for the Venus flytrap so it’s best to not activate it unless you’re actually feeding it?

Nice information. Only they don’t digest chitin; chitin is what forms the insects’ exoskeleton and is the one part that the plants can’t digest.
