Here is the stage of taking it from cloth to a hardened speaker box. Because of the video run time I decided to make it a 3 part video heck maybe 4 part but most likely not.

Hey man so I wanna make certain, you mixed the hardener with the resin before painting any at all on right??? Once while attempting this my resin was hardening before I got done painting it on, what's the solution to that problem? Use less hardener?

Hey Random,Just got the spare tire well done.Only the bottom and half the sides got glassed.I used 1.5oz mat and did 3 layers.As I said the majority of the box is wood and the floor that is glassed is only 13 inches deep with lots of curvature.All of this work and now I'm worried that the subs won't sound good.Do you think I used enough mat?
@RandomAudioGuys

3 layers seems pretty thing if its a hefty subwoofer.

Random Audio Guy I actually did 2 more layers(5 total).I'm going to check it for flex and probably add a bottom center brace to stiffen the whole thing up.

This is an old video but I have a question - do you wait for the fiberglass resin to harden between coats or do you put them on wet? If the resin does harden, do you have to sand it between coats!?!? Also, when I have mixed a larger cup of resin, it hardens faster and I end up wasting a lot. Is there a trick to mixing a lot of resin for a larger project?
@RandomAudioGuys
@RandomAudioGuys 8 ай бұрын
Yes I let it harden between coats. But now days I use a UV cure reasin which allows me to set it up completly indoors and step out into the sun when its just the way I want it and it all cures at 1 time.

I use a Canon HF R600 and the mic I used in these videos I no longer use because I needed wireless so I went with the Sony ECMAW4 its a wireless mic but it works with Bluetooth connection instead of standard RF Transmission. Because its digital its either on or off no static in between. No special setup just a camcorder and a mic.

I can give you a list but Ill make sure to get that in a future fiberglass video. Youll want Resin, Fiberglass Cloth and or Fiberglass Mat. Some MDF Rings, MDF sheet 1/2 inch. A stretchable fabric or fiberglass fleece. Paint brushes ( Cheap nothing to costly as they are disposed) Acetone for cleanup and keeping brushes soft until your ready to disgard them. That would be the main list on the table if I were to do that project. I would recommend baby powder spread on your arms to stop the fiberglass from entering your pores and itching. Also a resporatior and gloves.

i have two questions. 1.what kind off resin is that. I heard you say you don't need to add hardener. 2.Can it be use on any type of fiberglass material
@RandomAudioGuys
@RandomAudioGuys 7 жыл бұрын
paa kwesi and 2 answers. it is called a uv cure resin. and yes it is usable in any product that you can get uv light to. we have uv lamps for working inside vehicles so we're able to use it anywhere. if it's a spot that you cannot get to then you can use a harder in it and it will react as a normal resin.

@RandomAudioGuys
@RandomAudioGuys 7 жыл бұрын
Most any light will put out UV, But there are a ton of options, And it will all depend on where you are working, We keep small and large lights to do these projects.I would hit Google and start looking for UV lights for curing resin, you will see a lot of choices.

Well you can use a catalyst in it ( Hardener ) to make sure it sets up. Its just a Resin where the UV Rays from the sun or any UV Source can work as a natural really fast hardener. Other than that its the same as any other resin.

Well if you notice I did not resin the entire area the sub sit in. I left soft spots and I cut it out then ran a router around it, Once I cut that little area out I removed the screws and I apoligize for not having that in the video. You will see alot more advance and higher quality builds. That was our first build for the channel and It seems the fiberglass is what people want to see so we will be bringing it to the channel and also will be doing extended cuts for those that want more information. Sadly I have had as much as 20 hours of footage on 1 video that I had to compress down to 20 minutes so we are taking this feed back and learning from our editing mistakes and will try to make sure all the details are there, very much like the new console video we did. Its missing alot but it is still 18 minutes long and we learned. We will have a better channel just keep tuned. And ask any questions if we missed something, we will happily answer them.

@RandomAudioGuys

The resin sets up hard as a brick. When you put resin the fabric it soaks through to the wood binding the 2 together. Typically on larger enclosures you would go around the backside of the rings with reinforcement fiberglass.

I have learned alot from what people want to see and we will be showing it int he videos. Also alot has to do with time frame, like people watch an average of 4 minutes of a 20 minute video. But in the future builds you will see we have listened to the feed back. Appreciate the comment and hope you stick around to the channel. Been awhile but we have 3 videos about to pop up soon on the channel.
