$390 (8 wrenches) you broke my heart! My uncle is a 40+ year mechanic and will not buy any tool useless it's Snap on or Mac. I bet he has spent $100,000 in tools. An ex girlfriend bought me a Brench Top tool set (Walmart)and I'm still using them! Not saying they are the best but that was 20yrs ago.

As someone who owns this, powered with 2000.1 Amp. Tune your Amp to the lows. You will be shocked by how deep in the low bass these subs actually go. Some tracks i have straight slam at 20hz

Unless you drive a truck with very little room for an enclosure, I'd recommend the biggest woofer the vehicle's available space allows. I am impressed how loud and low these small woofers get.

If you only had 600 watts Id consider more surface area in this case. A DD Slim 10 or 12. They are not designed like typical Slimlines and hit pretty damn well. They would be my choice in that scenario.

@RandomAudioGuys5 ай бұрын
You didn't pay attention, the used sub ends up on the desk and 2 new subwoofers were used, The DD should have smelled no matter what, it was not rated to hold the higher power and it did. No subwoofer should smell at 1/3rd of its rating, Even during break in.

What can cause vc leads being seperated from where they attach to coil that is not visible at the (former?) I have several high end or hard to find subwoofers that have damage like this. The voice coils are flawless, shiny no damage, but the leads that are integrated in the suspension spider are ripped away inside and the terminals make no connection outside?? Also a majority the spider has failed, lifted, or if there is a clamping ring securing the spider it has seperated. Extreme over power in a high tuned big port area box and overexcursion causing the ripped away type damage? Ive never had this happen to me personally but have collected many rebuildable woofers with this type failure. How do i fix this with reusing the original coil and making new lead wires up to the spider connection? Thanks for any info. Id like to replace the spiders with nice new units and reuse the coils that look new just have no connection leads. Also none have heat damage noticeable from shorting or high power or extreme clipping causing the damage to the wire, its just ripped away, the leads thru the spider are still like new with casing all the way to the speaker terminals on the baskets so its not from melting
@RandomAudioGuys6 ай бұрын
Over excursion can pull the copper in two. At least if I'm understanding your question correction, Had this issue one some JLW0 when it first came out. Subs looked perfect all the way through the tear down, ended up being broken in two under the glue that holds the cone to the voice coil former.
@Blake-fz7ed6 ай бұрын
@@RandomAudioGuys exactly. The little wires that come up the former thing and attach to the spiders leads are ripped apart
@Blake-fz7ed6 ай бұрын
Have you tried them in a correct tuned ported enclosure and compared ? Curious. Yes i realize the age of the video, i have the chance to pick up a lot of these 6.5 and 8s on closeout for a lot less than retail is why im asking about
@RandomAudioGuys6 ай бұрын
Wonderful subs in a good box. Still will never hold their rating but if you hit them with 250 RMS your good. 600 to 750 on the 8s for RMS.

If I have a freshly rebuild sub I did myself it reads proper ohms and isn’t frozen, but it doesn’t bump or anything what is wrong with it? I am at a loss for what to do?
@RandomAudioGuys6 ай бұрын
How close tight are your gap tolerances ? Did it require alot of shimming between the gap and coil ?
@mexcentral89696 ай бұрын
@@RandomAudioGuys not sure if my last message went through so, it’s a home built voicecoil, it did not need very much in terms of shimming. Once everything settled it ended up turning out that the aluminum former I used rubs slightly against the center piece in the motor that the voicecoil goes over. You can hear it every single time you actuate the sub by hand although it does not appear to increase the force needed to actuate the woofer up or down. Say the woofer were to be raised by hand it will settle back down in place just fine without any pauses and if memory serves besides the slight noise from the homemade voicecoil rubbing it appears to actuate exactly like it did before. Although I will say the original voice coil did not come apart before when this woofer and it’s sister woofer stopped working. It had some very peculiar symptoms when compared to its sister woofer whose voice coil imploded. This subs voice coil was burnt but did not come apart by any means and still actuated. I sent you the symptoms in more detail over instagram DM’s

This is an old video but I have a question - do you wait for the fiberglass resin to harden between coats or do you put them on wet? If the resin does harden, do you have to sand it between coats!?!? Also, when I have mixed a larger cup of resin, it hardens faster and I end up wasting a lot. Is there a trick to mixing a lot of resin for a larger project?
@RandomAudioGuys7 ай бұрын
Yes I let it harden between coats. But now days I use a UV cure reasin which allows me to set it up completly indoors and step out into the sun when its just the way I want it and it all cures at 1 time.

Do you need the recone kit for the exact same speaker or can you get away with one for the same size and specs?
@RandomAudioGuys8 ай бұрын
As long as the specs are the same , meaning the gapping of the voicecoil ect... But its not typical that these will line up with another woofers build.

At the current price point for both of these woofers I am going to recommend you decide between pure street bass or Sound Quality. DD Takes the street bass at this price point and Memphis takes the Sound quality.
