I sure wish someone would have given me an intro into diatonic cords like this 40+ years ago! Even tho I was taught to read music, all the Italian terminology, and major scales, and basic chord structure, they left out the 2 most important things that would have opened the world of music up for me- diatonic cords, and relative major and minor! I only learned these concepts a little over a year ago, when I took up guitar! I played piano from childhood, and cello all thru school, and I always felt like everyone was part of some mysterious club that I'd never belong to, because I didn't understand these 2 simple concepts! And so while to play a melody by ear came easily to me, I STRUGGLED to figure out the chords unless they were simple, and didn't have a clue how anyone just knew where to go! I think ALL music students should be taught these concepts from the beginning, so thank you for this easy break down!😁💖 I know there's Someone watching this that was in the same position I was who is eternally grateful to you right now for unlocking the mystery door!!!😁💖

I have been using the circle of fifths to figure out the major and minor chords, and didn't realize that those are the I-IV-V chords!

Hello, Jamie. Thank you for the fabulous lessons. I have a question for you. I am just a starter and allmost 71, but it's a lot of fun. I tried to play Spanish music.. I play the chords good but It's very difficult to held my fingers on the same string. When i strum fast 001120 to 002330 to 004550 and back 002330 and 001120 my fingers are not on the right (same) string anymore. Strum is up;down;down;down;down.String 3 finger1, string 4 finger 3, string 5 finger 2. Is there a trick to hold your fingers on the same string? Thank you for your answer. Again thank you, also for your everlasting smile.
@JamieAndersonMusic4 жыл бұрын
Glad you're enjoying the lessons. I'm not sure what you're asking me. In general, if you slow things down and master them at that speed, then you can gradually speed up (a little every day) and that should fix the problem. You might also need to warm up a little more if it's a problem with stretching your fingers far enough to reach certain strings.

Hi Jamie, I know the chords for the song "who knows where the time goes" by Sandy... but it so difficult to know where does the word fall on the chords... it very difficult... Do you think you can have couple of videos on explaining song structures, bars, tempo and how the works sometime don't start in the beginning of bar... that is what I think is happening with this song that I am having the problem with. I tried, there no good lesson video for Who knows where the time goes. If you can explain that will be great. Thanks
@JamieAndersonMusic4 жыл бұрын
That's a hard one to do since every song is different. As I say in this video, in general you want to stay with a half, whole, or several whole measures for each chord -- a measure is a whole strum pattern. Get solid with the guitar part before you sing. I touch on that in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGGbpIh6j8igpaM
