How To Film Fireworks With The DJI Mavic Air 2 | Tips and Techniques

In this video, I go over some tips for new pilots who want to film fireworks with their DJI Mavic Air 2. I also show you some editing techniques that turn a standard fireworks video into something spectacular using an iPhone or iPad and LumaFusion. Although I feature the Mavic Air 2 in this video my tips apply to any drone that you fly such as the Mavic Mini or Mavic 2 series.

Can you set this thing up to fly to a specified point during the day so that when it comes to firework time you can simply push a button and it automatically finds the right spot to film ? ✌🏻

If you put the drone into picture mode you can see a little better at night. Maybe fly to the spot in picture mode then change to video once at the spot.

Thank you very much. Personally I would shoot in 4K, that allows you to zoom in and get some close-ups if you’re gonna be exporting later on in 1080. Those fireworks were filmed at 30 FPS, filming at 60 FPS would allow to slow some of the shots down and give you a more dramatic affect

I had a plan to film some fireworks and then I flew my air 2 yesterday and crashed it. stomping thru debris and washed up trash along the Deleware River I came upon my drone with a broken arm. I was in sport mode getting away from a hawk and forgot to turn it it back to normal mode. As I look up to get a visual sight I looked back down at the screen because I didn’t see it it was in the trees already.

Yes you could use those techniques for any fireworks you capture.

What software are you using and also how do you get sound

I added in Luma fusion, it’s only available for iPhone or iPad. If you want to record the sound you will need to use a third-party sound recorder or even your phone and then just use the audio track.

I was going to toy with the slow motion feature. Trying open shutter shots wouldn't work since the drone isn't perfectly stable or have OIS. Flying through them? Yeah I wouldn't fly my $1,000 drone anywhere near an air detonated bomb...

Unfortunately my township is loaded with hypochondriacs that wear 2 masks and curl in the corner of their basements so they decided to move the 4th of July fireworks to September. So much for history. Tonight and Sunday there will be fireworks about 8 miles from my house, tonight I'll film them with the Mini 2, tomorrow I'll have the Mini 2 and Air 2S charged up and ready. I wanted to use the EVO 2 pro but my filters haven't arrived yet.

Great Video. Misuse of the word film. We do not film. We work with digital video. Digital Video and film require different skill sets and gear. Having different historical and technological timelines covering 150 years. You would be more accurate to say taping (though still wrong). You record, video, produce (be creative don't mimic), or in most cases it is redundant to cite the obvious. Stop saying film over and over. How to video with the DJI Mavic Air 2. Have some pride and show some knowledge of the technology you are using. Peace.
