It's great to be able to target and find brush piles instead of finding them by accident with your crankbait's open treble hooks, Haha. Some nice chunks in those piles.

Ya crankbaits are good for locating brush. I should've put that in the video!!

Interesting comment/ observation on the crankbait. Have had excellent success on crankbait thus far. Been interesting to see if it dies out.
@TheTinHorseMonty2 жыл бұрын
Hope the crankbait keeps working for you. They get a little wise to it around here. It still works for sure just not as good as the post spawn. Thanks for checking out the video Jake.

Forward-facing sonar is a game changer. The only way most of us can do anything even close is to fish near our regular sonar. But I do like traditional fishing and paying attention to the conditions and nature.
@TheTinHorseMonty2 жыл бұрын
Well said. You don't need electronics to enjoy nature and fishing. Agree 100%. Sometimes all the latest and greatest can take away from the organic side of fishing. Kind of like an acoustic guitar vs an electric with a bunch of foot pedals and a huge amp....your still playing the same notes. Thanks for checking out the video!
@gregbrenyo65182 жыл бұрын
@@TheTinHorseMonty I like the comparison. I guarantee if I have forward facing sonar it would be exciting and frustrating at the same time. I'm a guitarist myself and I have gone to a minimalist approach. Tube amp turned up to 11 and the only effect I use is a Reverb pedal. Best thing you can do is use your volume and tone knobs.
@TheTinHorseMonty2 жыл бұрын
@@gregbrenyo6518 Forward Facing Sonar is eye opening but it can eat up a lot of time. Figuring out how to work it into the program is key. I'm a bass player. One of my favorite bass players, Joe Dart(Vulfpeck) has a signature model bass with a single volume knob. LOL. So much of the tone is in the fingers. I've been teaching my daughter to play acoustic guitar.
@gregbrenyo65182 жыл бұрын
@@TheTinHorseMonty that's true there's probably a lot of setup involved. On my boat I couldn't run it off the trolling motor it would have to be external. So I would have to get a pole mount to aim the transducer at what I wanted to look at. I have a Jon Boat like yours but not as wide. My trolling motor is off to one side of the boat. You're right about tone 100%. The pickups and the amplifier do their job passively. It's up to the player to play the instrument and add their tone. I sound like me and no one else. Most musicians would be surprised on how touch sensitive tube amplification can be. Probably less so for bass but different in my case.

Gabe you are having too much fun with your video fishing tech! All that stuff is really working well for you and seems to do everything except hook the fish. Were that lake a bit closer, yours truly would be dropping down on brush piles in an attempt to catch some of those crappie. Really nice lake. Well, we are in for a week or so of 100+ temps but it looks like a little cooler weather will come by the end of the month. The grass is getting crispy around here. Have a great week, Don

@codydulmes8042 жыл бұрын
@@TheTinHorseMonty That LiveScope definitely is sweet. The tournament was good the first morning and then everything shut down for the rest of the day and weekend. There was way to many boats on such a small body of water. After almost every single spot was fished at, nothing would bite the rest of the tournament. Great experience and was definitely a lot of fun spending that time with my father. Finally found the 2 graphs I had on backorder at a dealer on my way to the tournament. I was able to hook up the bow graph and use that which definitely helped a lot versus no graphs at all!

Your absolutely correct. Years ago I didn’t have electronics so I positioned sideways off a point near deep water (used a weight with rope to measure depth) at Little Grassy Lake and slaughtered them with a Carolina rig.

I live on table rock and fish alog. I went out yesterday to specifically try to catch them on a big bull worm. U ever been able to catch them on it? Not me. They'd eat a jig , cr, drop shot and shake head but not the bull worm. Just curious
@TheTinHorseMonty2 жыл бұрын
I think the best time for a big straight tail worm is the post spawn. The fish put the feed bag on. Fall is another good time. I've caught a few on it but honestly haven't used it a lot. There's a big straight tailed worm made by Huskey Outdoors that has been good lately. Also, Hawgz Custom Baits makes a 6 1/4" and 7 1/4" straight tail worm that works great. I've had to downsize, like you, the last few trips to get bites.
