To point out there use to be other large chain book stores in the U.S.A. in the not so distant past. Waldenbooks and Borders are both noteworthy as both chains, on occasion, got exclusive cover variant books. Both companies were bought out by K-Mart, merged, shuttered, and rights sold off to B&N years after.

Thanks for this video it was great. I’ve been searching for strange the dreamer UK edition and also the wicked king. Unfortunately when these books came out I was really ill and spent a very long time in hospital and when I came out I wasn’t interested in anything let alone books or booktube but since I found my love of booktube and reading again I’ve heard so much about these series so I’m hoping to get them in the pretty hardcovers. At this point I'm checking Jay Kristoff's twitter every day because I didn't think I was going to like Nevernight and I did and I'm kicking myself because when I bought it in paperback the hardback was available for Godsgrave (for normal price no less) and because I wanted my editions to match I bought Godsgrave in paperback. Right I can not spend no more then 30 to 40 on a book something it goes up to 50 because of shipping from out of country to the usa..... I'm looking for the nevernight series, strange the dreamer and the Australian version of Nevermoor but good new with the nevernight series they maybe doing a reprint hopefully Same one day I get lady Midnight waterstones edition because everybody asking 250$

For First Edition of books, does the publisher country of origin matter in terms of value, e.g. A US First Edition and a UK First Edition, but different publishes, does that matter or do you need the First Edition where book originates from for it to be a true First Edition?

So typically the editions in difference countries will have different covers! For example the US and UK covers of strange the dreamer are different. UK books also tend to go out of print in hardback relatively quickly which can increase the value of a first press.

I’ll add onto Katie’s helpful info - If ur looking for the MOST valuable version of a collectible book then u want to research where the very 1st printing took place & attempt to source that version. For example: Harry Potter was first published in UK & some changes were made prior to US printing - which makes the original UK edition worth $$$$$$$. However, if u just want to own a rare copy of a beloved book & it was originally published in a foreign language then its best to look for a 1st print in ur own country/language so u can enjoy it. The most valuable books are always “1st / 1st” which stands for 1st edition / 1st printing. •1st Edition” = Book is published for first time (Used for subsequent copies so long as no changes have been made) •”1st Print” = Very first printing of 1st Edition. Most publishers use a number line on copyright or page - the last number usually indicates the printing (if unsure u can always look up the publishing house to find their statement about how they number print runs).

Hiiii! I love that edition so much! Unfortunately book box editions are a bit harder to hunt down since they don’t have unique ISBN numbers :( i would check resale sites like eBay, mercari, and depop. Also check out some facebook book buy/sell groups (there are some I’ve seen specifically for book boxes) and you might be able to find stuff that way. Best of luck!

Advice: if you are buying new books, don't buy them from Amazon. They tend to ship them poorly protected and damage is common. Buy new books from your local bookshop.
