Thank you for practicing and showing catch-and-release practices. It's important that people see that sportfishing can be responsible and fun at the same time.

Seems as though you are using mono. Any objections to braid? Also can a line counter be used with braid?

Another great video. Thanks for sharing. I have two questions. I heard you comment near the end of the video that you let the line out slow. Why do you let the Mojos out slow rather than dropping straight down free spool? Also, how do you decide between using artificial lures versus bait? Thanks Mike.
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS5 жыл бұрын
If you drop it down fast, you can only get 20 feet out. We usually end up with 40-60 feet out. Sometimes up to 100 depending on speed and depth. We want the MoJo hitting bottom in 20-30 feet of water at 2.8-5mph. The line counters really help getting back to the right depth fast.

FrozenCold We usually start the season by trolling. The fish are flooding the bay and are very spread out. As they start to move shallower and stage near contours and structure we will switch to cut bait. When fish are less than 20 feet deep we will usually make the switch. We are switching right now.

So glad the fish are moving north. Do you ever use the same method for deep water bass up in Gloucester? I've always wondered if those big baits would be effective up here.
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS5 жыл бұрын
I haven’t used these exact rigs up there before, but they will definitely work. I will do a video on exactly how we use them in the next week or so. Great search-baits.

Hi Mike, why do striped bass hold in open water rather than on structure like in this video?
@webmoss Жыл бұрын
Up in the Northeast, we have open water bass and structure bass. They’re built different and look different. Open water bass are skinnier with wide tails. Structure bass are have more girth for their length
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS Жыл бұрын
Stripers always relate to something. It could be water temp, structure, bottom contours, current, food, etc. although Stripers do ambush prey, they feed as a pack more often. In this video they were relating to baitfish in open water where they can feed as a pack.
@webmoss Жыл бұрын
My point is, a Boston Bass can be longer than a Block Island Bass. But a Boston Bass will weigh 2/3 the weight of the Block Island Bass. Block Island Bass hold structure while the Boston Bass will hunt in packs and generally have wider tails because they chase fast prey like Mackerels and Sea Herrings.

If you want to slay your PB then Block Island is the spot for you. Got plenty of 50 pounders there off the Ledge. I prefer to catch the Harbor bass in skinny water. They jump like Tarpons!
