Thank you! I am sealing the tub today, but wasn't sure about the edges. This is great information.

Great video. What would you do if it was a cut tile edge facing up and it wasn't the same color all the way through (i.e. cutting large tiles into strips for baseboards)? How do you finish that tile edge so that it disappears?
@RefreshHomeImprovements Жыл бұрын
Hmm that’s a tricky situation. The best case scenario would be to add a tile edge on top (though that’s easier said than done if the tile is already installed). Your options (outside of a good tile edge) will likely be limited to coloured sealants (silicone that matches the tile or grout) 👍

Hi have same end wall setup. Did you mitre tile corners and why set back end of tile inch off wall? Nice work.

Could you possibly use the silicone first just a little and then over top use the caulk? I know silicone lasts way longer and is more flexible. Anybody know if that’s possible? Or just not needed at at?
@RefreshHomeImprovements5 күн бұрын
Unfortunately not, silicone is designed to not have stuff stick it so the caulking won’t adhere properly. There are terrific paintable sealants that will last just as long👍 try extreme stretch from Dap

how did you trim the tile at the top of the shower? did you just take the tile to the ceiling with no trim? 8:04 we get a glimpse of what appears to be no trim, albeit terrible angle to make a proper judgement.

The tile goes all the way to the ceiling in the shower👍

Thank you for this helpful video. What silicone do you recommend for tile, corners, floors ect? Shower area as well as bathroom walls.

Great question! We use DAP Silicone Ultra almost every time. Pro tip* for jobs where you want your silicone to ‘disappear’ look for this product in translucent white (different than ‘white’) and keep a couple of tubes handy. On light coloured tiles its translucent enough not to draw your eye, but has enough white pigment to cover up minor gaps and imperfections👍 dap.ca/products-projects/product-categories/caulks-sealants/silicone/silicone-ultra-k-b/

@@RefreshHomeImprovements Thank you for the reply. I will be grouting and sealing my bathroom walls, shower etc. pretty soon. I had purchased Latasil by Laticrete because of the color match with their Spectralock 1 grout. The Latisil is 100% silicone. What do you think of this product?

Hi can you tell me if I wasn’t doing mid wall but where my floor tile meets the wall, at it seems to have peeled off and left a line of a hole would,it be the same?I find pushing that caulk out very difficult as I am elderly, is it the same difficulty to push out if I use the silicone tube and will silicone on the floor/wall tile edge be ok? Thanks

So we also have a backsplash in the bathroom only 6 inches from the countertop… but it’s also just a cut edge of tile and we don’t know what to put on top of that cut edge of tile. Is there a certain kind of tile trim and where would I find it?
@RefreshHomeImprovements Жыл бұрын
That’s a difficult scenario if it’s already installed unfortunately. Adding a tile edge after your mortar and grout has dried is difficult to say the least. At this point, you could look into adding a tile trim (small tiles designed to look like trim pieces) on top. If thats not an option, you’d likely be looking at something like a coloured sealant (silicone that matches the tile or grout) to conceal the cut edge 👍
