At age 75, I took up golf this summer. As I have sought to develop a consistent swing I took a couple of lessons from a "pro". I played several times a week, and then looked here and there on the net for help. I heard the term "rotation" often, and so there I was ... turning my shoulders, turning my hips ... and scarcely able to hit an iron at all that wasn't topped. I took the lessons of this video to the range today and the difference was amazing. Thank you Danny!

Super video Danny. Been playing with a pronounced closed stance for the last few years. In my seventies now and playing well, find you get plenty rotation going back but not so much going forward 🤔
@DanielMaude3 жыл бұрын
the more you close your stance the less it will open on the way through. It's more important to complete your turn as we get older that to get the hips opening up

Dear Danny, there is not much shallowing club video from you, would you please share your opinion about this? Some kind of artificial movement such as external rotation right elbow? Is it really helpful for good swing?
@DanielMaude2 жыл бұрын
I just don’t think it helps to encourage golfers to do this. If you aren’t shallowing the golf club I believe it’s more important to understand why that is as opposed to artificially trying to put a club there

@DanielMaude9 ай бұрын
It’s more important to know what starts the golf swing for you. It’s more of a feeling than what’s actually real
@rortys.kierkegaard9980 Жыл бұрын
ABSOLUTELY! Tiger and Jack both thought the hips ‘pulled back’; rotation wasn’t a notion… this works because physics operates in ‘straight-line forces’. Pushing and pulling anything requires it. A ‘circular’ motion is the result of straight-line forces acting on a lever, like a ferris wheel. In the back swing, pull your right hip as far back, or a deep, as you can. On the downswing, pull your left hip back as far, or as deep, as you can (for righties)

After a few years playing as a teenager, I have been a green fee golfer for almost 30 years struggling on the course. Last year I joined a club and started training again. My aim was to understand the swing and feel it better. I have now followed Danny Maudes videos for a while and I must say that it amazes my how he locks up the understanding for the areas around the golfswing which I have struggled with. The videos released by Danny over the recent 6 months has simply just answered my questions in a brilliant way. I have been able to use the understanding to develop my swing, the feel is developing, I am getting much more consistent shots and I cannot wait to get on the course again. Thank you, Danny.

As a feel do you have the hips drive the backswing or does the torso cause the hips to load then fire?
@DanielMaude3 жыл бұрын
I would say it starts in the ground and works upward
@TheRich0000073 жыл бұрын
It appears sometimes that some pros turn their torso into a braced right leg and it appears their hips don’t move until the torso turns close to the top of the backswing which loads the right hip. I’m sure they are gripping the ground but are they starting the swing with the torso? I’ve mentally tried both ways. When I use the ground and hips to start the swing my arms feel more relaxed however less control. When I start the swing with the upper triangle and eventually load the hip I might not have as much separation as the other way but it feels like I have more control. Any thoughts?
@josephmarolla34383 жыл бұрын
Great explanation. Wondering why when I clear my left hips by straightening my left leg I sometimes hit the equator of the ball instead of hitting down. Not sure why that happens.

"the hips neither lead nor impede the swing"...Bobby Jones, don't do this, you will ruin your back...just stay supple in your lower body, you cannot focus on the swing if you think about your hips...yes eventually you need to learn to rotate your hips but they should not be used to swing the club or arms. Look at Tiger, he did and he nearly lost it all.... btw if you raise your hands over your shoulder on the back swing you will ruin your back...trust me as you get older you will care.
@DanielMaude3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, the hips don’t move because you try to move them they move because of what you do with the feet

@@DanielMaude Danny, what is not taught in golf is "swing plane"...most people are trying to swing down the line of flight, or the Y plane...once you learn to swing on the curved Z plane everything makes sense...it's the body tilt that throws people, they cannot feel the turning of the body, you and me know we have to turn and eventually it's just our natural swing, but this "turning, esp from a lead right player" is very misunderstood If folks out there wanna feel a turn, make a left handed swing. Asked a pro friend what was his swing thought on 1st Tee at US Open? "make a good turn" was his immediate reply

Yep - "fire the hips"....there are times when I want to fire them and get some new ones. Seriously, I really like how this drill lays out the process of getting the hips in the cleared position in both the backswing and downswing. It also shows how the flow of the torso works with this to "coil" itself to help store and release the power for effective golf swings. I have been working with the right foot back and it has helped with the open face. I am working now on getting the front hip to clear to allow full follow-thru. This lesson is the perfect step by step method for getting there....great lesson again Danny.

For me I think I never engaged core at address and so when at transition I would tense up (engage core) so as to hit the ball and then "early extend". So in short, lol, do some sit ups and planks, strengthen core and engage it at address!
