Best advice I ever got was to stop “buying into the bullshit.” You don’t need $15 lures in 17 different clown ass colors. Walleye have amazing eyesight, and they’re built for hunting in twilight / lowlight. Match the hatch. Give them a bait that looks exactly like what they’re eating. Trust me, they can see it without the paint job looking like a glow stick rave. They are finicky and weary of things that don’t look natural to them. Best of luck, homie 🤙

Very similar to how I fish here in Arkansas. I just drag and pause and usually the slower the better. Last year was a real no pattern pattern. Everything work a little but nothing constantly produced like previous years. Usually white swimbaits or a blk/gold Rapala killed but thats fishing. Still caught a freezers worth of 24 inch males. Good tactic, that or Flickr shad are killer this time of year for walleye. On the flicker you’ll pick up a crappie or two as well.

Is it bad if I use a swivel clip on my line for quick lure changes?

For jigs I like to tie direct. If I’m using a blade bait a snap is good to help the action of the lure. Honestly I don’t think the swivel clip is hurting your chances. If it was really clear water it may play a role but not in the Mississippi River.

What weights do you use for your jig head? I was thinking 1/4oz would be good and a 3 inch swim bait. Never gone walleye fishing so im not sure if this setup is ideal. A buddy of mine thought I should up the size of the swim bait for a larger presentation.

I generally use 1/4-3/8oz. The size of the plastic, current and depth can effect how heavy of a jig you need. Try different combinations and see what works.

8lb mono. I tie the yellow line directly to the bait, no leader.

I go to Canada once a year and when I was nine I caught a 26 1/2 in I don't know how walleye in the 30s are possible but my grandpa caught a 32 in 2021 In Minnesota

How do you fish the bottom like that and not constantly catching on rocks, weeds and sunken trees?

I do catch a fair amount of trees. The idea is to not drag it on the bottom. Instead hop it up and keep it 1-2 feet above the bottom. That will help reduce the hang ups. Also, using a jig with a lighter gauge hook allows you to pull it free when it snags a tree.
