How to Fish a YoYo Iron | Yellowtail Tips

Captain Dave Hansen on a quick video on How to fish for yellowtail using irons.
For yo-yoing deeper fish like yellowtail; just drop your lure over the side straight down and let it drop fast until it hits the bottom. Then engage the reel and retrieve as fast as you can about half way to even all the way up then stop and let it drop to the bottom again and repeat, hence the name like a "yo-yo".

Turns out my deep water small mouth bass technique is called yo-yoing haha. I do this every time. I have a slight spin on this though. Let the jig hit the bottom, fly swat, hit the bottom, 5-10 reels, and repeat.

Your my favorite Capt. Dave!, I'm a fisherman from NorCal. As a surf caster, I found love casting for Yellowtails, and had some great trips catching Yellowtails, on surface irons and yo-yo'ing. I'm intrigued with those Ahi Flash Jigs, I bought some, in Anchovy, Green Mackerel, and Sardine. Going on a big trip later, which finish color is the go-to color? Or are they all good? And do you change out the silver treble hooks to bronze treble hooks? Thanks' Capt. Dave
