Hey Hank, I got two Alabama rigs for Christmas and due to inclement weather haven't had a chance to try them yet. I also need to check the State Regulation on how many hooks I can use here in North Carolina. I am officially a baby with these things. I using a 7' 6" heavy Daiwa Tatula Rod and a Lews BFS reel in the 5 range, cant' remember the exact Ratio. I'm using braid to flurocarbon leader and tying and improved clinch. I use an Albright knot for my transition from the Smackdown Braid and Seagar Flurocarbon leader. Hope the braid doesn't screw up the wait the bait runs.

Hi , I have just watched the video you shared about the Alabama rig. even I watched some video's about this rig I must say your video and your information are by far the best. So thanks a lot for the effort and patience under the rain. I am in Turkey a Turkish saltwater angler and here in Turkey or in the Mediterranian waters, the Alabama or Umbrella rig is just starting to get known. Unfortunately, there is no store selling this rig. I would like to ask you a question. If I would send you the needed amount of money would you buy and send me 2-3 of the alabama rig sets you would recommend ( without the soft bait - only the rig ) ?. I hope you and your family are always good and safe. Best regards Efdal

Could I use a light wire straight shank hook to thread my swimbaits on? I’m working on a finesse bama rig for bank fishing and I have a three wire rig that weighs about 3/8 of an ounce. So it’s either I use something that has no weight or a 1/16 ounce jig head.

Do you ever dip the tail of one swimbait in chartreuse dye? If so which one would you dye. I would guess the middle or bottom bait.
@BassGeek6 жыл бұрын
I don't unless I'm fishing around fish I feel are keying on blue gill. If I'm fishing for smallies I'll add a bait or baits with chartreuse in'em. I'm not a big fan of the dip. I use the pens most of the time.

So i love the alabama rig but slowest reel i got is 6-3-1 even that slow with mono i still don't like the torge on my reel so i am going try a catfish reel like abu 6500 c. On a 8 ft bass rod see if it handles it better. What do you think?

@BassGeek7 жыл бұрын
Believe it or not they actually come free from cover real easy. Now if you set the hook I can't promise any thing but if you don't you just need to get right over it and shake it. It's got so much weight most of the time it will pull its self loose.

Just bought my first a-rig today. I plan to use it from the kayak. For risk of snags, I can’t imagine it working well from the bank. What are your thoughts on that?
@BassGeek4 жыл бұрын
It can work from the bank I recommend light finesse arigs and belly weighted hooks so you can tex-spose the hooks and make them weedless
@timg1856 жыл бұрын
I snapped a heavy action rod about 6inches above the handle casting an a rig. I know use a 7’10” Denali extra heavy. I use 25lb flourocarbon. It’s very easy to back lash braid with a heavy a rig and you won’t be able to pick it out.
@BassGeek6 жыл бұрын
I agree I use the 7"10 arig rod by abu garcia. It's heavy fast but It's probable just a touch over that. Now I only use braid as a backing never to cast. I recommend if you're not used to casting Big swimbaits or arigs to start with mono. I use 20lb fl.

It makes a difference. The line comes through the fish well before the baits. That’s why I also only throw it with wind. Seen it matter more than once. Plus that braid don’t have 5baits and x amount of blades hanging from it.
