So, as a tip, if you have one of those screws that match the nut you have you can run the nut all the way to the bottom and torque it a bit against the screw head. Then you can hold the threads and spin the nut easily to grind down its diameter. Bonus points if you hold it in such a way that whatever you are using to grind it doesn't try to back the nut off the threads.

I'm a Drum Instructor, & this stuff happens all the time. That's why I tell all my students to check & tighten ALL moving parts on their set! Very few kids listen, & I am always fixing them for them. I would tell all band / music teachers to check & tighten all the parts themselves EVERY week, to avoid these problems.

Dom, I was a music store road rep for 3 years and I can tell you first hand. 90% percent of the directors I called on were very very uncomfortable with percussion hardware. They get really worried they will mess it up. But all you can do is start taking a closer look at each part. And you'll figure it out. I did this repair 7 months ago and it's still holding up. Maybe not forever, but you live and you learn! Do you teach privately on your own or through a music store Dom?

@@caseydoremus5324 I've been teaching for over 30 yrs. now. I've taught out of Music stores as well as my own house. I currently go to the students houses. I owned a music store for about 5 yrs. When I taught at Music Go Round, I did a Clinic every year on Drum Tuning, as well as hardware set up & adjustment, head selection for the parents & the kids, but most parents didn't show, & only a handful of students. You can lead the horses to water, but you can't make 'em drink.

@@domdesant8085 you are absolutely correct. I get a student here and there who has the drive I had at their age. But not many. Sad honestly

Please tell me thats not a grinder on your workbench that you could have used to grind the nut down quicker.

What causes the pedal not to swing very much at all?. I have a pearl double bass pedal and I'll bend the pedal back, let it go and both pedal only swing 3 or 4 times before stopping...any ides I can try??

There are some products out there that help the springs move better. I honestly can't even think how many times my pedals swing if I let go of them. Its all a feel thing.

Trying to sand down a nut with a vibratory sander is like using tweezers to eat a burger. A file will get you there in 60 seconds.
