How To Fix A Boost Creeping Single Turbo Foxbody With A VS Racing 60MM Wastegate!

In this Video I show you how to fix boost creep on a single turbo Foxbody mustang with a bigger 60mm vs racing wastegate. I show all the steps you would need to take and how to make this work on your turbo foxbody and eliminate the horrible boost creeping problem. I could not hold consistent boost before this install and now my boost is rock solid!

I had to add a second gate on my self built hotside also. Put a high flow merge on a mandrel bend area. Seemed to do the trick.

I think you'll be able to get it work with different spring pressures and boost controller. If not you could weld on a smaller v band for like a 44mm. Your gate placement/priority is good now atleast.

I know exactly the post on the turbo forum your referencing because you liked my comment on what I did… glad I could help out. I have a Tial gate and don’t have the issue making boost you do… I’m guessing you have a boost leak ?

Haha yea thanks for that! Well maybe I should check but it just doesn’t make a lot of sense that it boosted fine then after this it’s having a hard time but it does sound like the gate is opening up super fast I could audibly hear it wasting the other thing is my wideband died so I really couldn’t get a good feel for it either

🤣🤣🤣🤣 that flange being on the opposite side of the WG had me dying, reminds me of making the best and most beautiful brake line flare then look down and see the flare nut laying on the bench

Damn i ran a 38mm on my car with rock steady boost control at 8psi (street boost) and 15psi at the track, even on 15psi and 150 shot it only creeped to 17 at the end of the 1/8 with the same placement as your original one. Makes me wonder if your 44mm was sticking more than not big enough.

It could have been sticking to be honest cause I think this new 60mm is a little to much for my car now 😅 it was hitting 14 psi and boost cut with only 3/4 throttle and I wanted to hold it at 10. But like you said I think the old gate was just going bad honestly. I threw the question up on the turbo foxbody FB group and I just figured I’d go all out to fix it but I think I fixed it to good now 😂

@@iamchazhaynes7074 remember that the bigger the WG is the bigger surface area you have exhaust pushing against so, just using simple math, if you have a 10psi spring and have 6psi of exhaust pressure that spring may only hold for 2-3psi of boost because every psi on the diaphragm will open the gate easier. I had a 12psi spring in mine and with hat reference i got 8psi, removing and capping the reference to the gate it opened at 15psi on its own from exhaust pressure alone behind the turbo

Also sticking with the cheap theme, you can tie into your reference with a boost controller and apply dome pressure to increase the boost too. I used one at the beginning then tried unhooking the gate to get more than 12 and found the gate opened at 15 by itself then added dome pressure only to raise my boost

Ok that’s a good formula! I didn’t know that but it makes waaaay more sense I’ll be able to get it right then I should be a lot closer after I install the new 12 psi spring with that math! Thanks !!
