How to fix a broken heater control knob // EVO// Lancer// Mitsubishi

Doing some more work on the Evo, we're fixing the A/C Control Unit this time. The temperature side is having some issues turning and I believe it's just a cable...or, hope it's just a cable that can be an easy fix.

These new gears will definitely help. And they will work just fine. The real cause is the heater blend door. Though, I don't think you need to replace the blend door if it still works.

@@mikescarhole is replacing the whole dash hard? I would imagine you probably gotta unhook a bunch of things but I've never done that so I wouldn't know. Been thinking about replacing the dash on my car before I hand it down to the oldest of the kids.

@@jacksonvillejoe8613 it depends on the vehicle. Some of em are easier then others. If ya let me know what ya have, I might be able to give ya a how to on it. I can go to the junk yard and find a car like yours and make a video of how to take it apart.

Thx for the vid. My brothers Evo 8 is acting up again. The Stealership charged him $1200 for a complete new assembly last time; they prob fix it with $20 of parts and charge him for new. I keep telling him to fix it yourself. Anyway, now I know how to keep him away from the Stealership.., thx for your time.

The reason it’s still resistant is because you forgot to put the grease between the gears bro. You can use Valvoline synthetic grease it comes in a 1 LB tub either the grey or red kind, from the factory it came with grease but it wasn’t good and they dried up that’s why everyone has this problem now.

That's great advice, those gears had greese on em. And I didn't seem to have any issue. But I do appreciate ya pointing out where I could have done better.

The knob on my 2003 broke and I'm not too good with repairing these things, but this doesn't seem too bad.

It's a relatively easy fix. Just be careful with the potential brittle plastic.

Does the MR500925 come with the pin? Or is it just the knob?

I looked up that part number and it came back to just the knob. However when I ordered mine it was with both.
