I believe the 50/80 grit diamond stones were really designed for this type of restoration. I’m currently using a 100 grit diamond stone to restore about 1mm of a broken tip on my CRK Inkosi and it’s taking a while on the S45VN. (Thankfully it’s a tanto, so I’ve only an isolated section to work with.) I also believe grinding the new profile might’ve been much easier, then use the 100 stones to reestablish the edge. I’m a woodworker using only hand tools and whenever I had the misfortune of chipping an edge on a chisel or plane blade I headed to the grinder (Norton white wheel) and ground it out carefully so as not to overheat and lose temper. But you did it with good success! Thanks for the video!

@@RevHiker LOL, I've been there and missed the best bit. I didn't mind, it's pretty obvious you bend the curve down to the straight edge on the other side. Common sense really. Beautiful job, the knife looks brand new. They don't give those Spydercos away.

All you you did was shorten the blade. I was expecting you to repair the missing, broken piece. I "repair" broken the broken tips of old pocket knife blades in 30 seconds using my bench grinder.
@halfbaked33734 жыл бұрын
I don't get it at around 2 mins 30 it just skips from being a square tip to being pointy, did you grind the back black bit or just sharpen normally, I can get the dge sharp but was looking for this transition and it just skipped to it magically

I have a microtech combat troodon dagger that was passed on to me when my dad died and it was one of his most cherished knives. Handles in carbon fiber. The blade is a dagger in bronze apocalyptic finish and steel is M-390. I was showing a friend the knife who accidentally dropped it onto my ceramic floor chipping the tip but hardly as badly as that spyderco. I live in Canada where I cannot take the chance of carrying this automatic knife. I don’t have any experience at all in sharpening let alone fixing a double edged dagger point blade. Moreover than the fact I’m inexperienced or priciness of it, I was very close with him and the sentimental value means a lot to me. He just passed at 67 from cancer. Is there any ideas you have that would be a help? I’m afraid to even attempt trying to mess around fixing it. I know dagger ground blades are even difficult to sharpen for people that don’t know what they are doing. Any ideas at all would help a lot. Thanks and nice work you did on that spyderco! The near mirrored polish is stunning.

nice work! subscribed....i don't think i would end up like yours---as a kid, over sixty years ago, i watched my tempermental dad wrestle with building a dingy. as more of the lapstrake broke he was trying to bend to fit the hull, he finally had enough and at the speed of light it was all in the trash. it probably scared me then, but amuses me now as i look back fondly on my father. unfortunately i inherited his distaste for the lack of speedy progress....
