Just happened to me for the second time now. First time it was under warranty, now I will fix it thanks to you and safe 125€ for the repair...I do agree Dyson should do a world wide recall. This should be covered by dyson even after the warranty expires.

@Dyson shouldn’t have the audacity of asking customers to pay €125 for fixing this, which seems to be a product failure. 👎🏻 Dyson

Great video thanks! One quick note, the video doesn't show that a tool (like a flat head screw driver) is required to separate the white plate from the base where you disconnect the electrical wires. It has 2 snap locks that hold it in place and is hard to remove unless you pry it off.

I have a broken trigger. Dyson was out of warranty by a few months. They still sent a replacement free of charge (the head part only, no battery and pipes) even out of warranty, which was nice.

Dyson told us they we needed to buy a new battery when we told them the issue. I knew that wasn’t the case and that it was the trigger. I replace it today with help from this video and works like new.

Thanks for very exact details how to fix the trigger which is the really pain in the back in that vacuum. The original trigger is expensive and last for less than a year. Service is expansive too. Thanks to You I fixed it by about hour and 3$...🙂

The service from Dyson cost 135 euros since they will simply change the whole motor part. Purchase the trigger from Amazon only cost me ca. 20 euros. Then successfully fix it with your instruction. Thanks a lot!

Wow, mine broke too (v11) but replaced, thanks to this video. Not only that, but I was still under warranty until December. Called about the trigger, and they're sending me a brand new V11, with the upgraded replaceable battery, and told me to trash my old one (which is now fixed). Free v11! On top of that, 20% off my next dyson purchase, no expiration date, just need to call. They're expensive af, but that's service. 👌

thanks Mr Cable, great video, super helpful! Clearly Dyson has become master of planned obsolescence - and judging by the number of people replacing on their own this switch, Dyson are in no rush to changing their ways; they could have made the replacement process much easier. Nice touch for the outrageous cost of their products.

Thankful to have found this video. Unbelievable that the whole vacuum's function relies on the strength of a quarter inch of plastic. Ridiculous. There are parts of the video that certainly gloss over very tricky portions of the disassembly, but the video is thorough and accurate. I just had to sit at pause while I spent 10 minutes trying to push those cables through the housing, etc.

Also thank you for the video. I took mine apart and the trigger wasn't broken. I did have issues with the red trigger not springing back and staying on the on position. I assumed that I had a broken trigger. I think my issue was the battery trigger became askew with the battery trigger. Did buy the new trigger and the tools for the job.

Really thankful to have found this video! Just replaced our trigger with an Amazon replacement. Works like a charm. Really cheesed off with Dyson for making such a weak trigger as from what I’ve seen online, loads of people have had the same problem. It was definitely a fiddle to get it all apart, but we managed! Thanks so much for the walkthrough, saved us a fortune for our (just) out of warranty dyson.

Nice I did the same thing with my v11 few months before seeing this vid only difference I did was fixed my old one instead of buying a new part I used jb weld plastic epoxy and did 2 coats. First coat was more to hold it together and the second was a thicker band all around it to reinforce it. That epoxy gets harder then plastic so never had a problem again and works great now. Dyson dropped the ball with the trigger making it a flimsy soft peice of plastic with no reinforcement at all. They should of made the trigger out of saftey coated metal or a much thicker stronger plastic. Paying 800 for a vacuum with that type of part in it is insane to me. Have a good day.

Video was helpful for fixing mine. Very strange arrangement with the button pushing on a plunger switch on the battery not switch in the handle like most power tool. Got the part and long tools on Amazon. One glitch I encountered which had me stumped for time was the screw on the handle holding the battery in place was hanging up the trigger for some reason. Sometimes it wouldn’t go on, then it wouldn’t turn off. I just backed it out a bit and it trigger worked normally.
@paulkatieglenn6065

I just drilled a small hole in the back of the handle where the trigger contacts the battery switch. Then push any small bolt into the hole and the switch gets pushed down and the vac turns on. Pull out the bolt to turn off vac. Took minutes to get back to cleaning.

I bought a reinforced switch from Amazon (£8.99 with free postage) and have just put everything back together. One thing that I did before reassembly was to bend the 2 main terminal wire lugs back into right angles, as it certainly wasn’t easy to bend them in the first place on disassembly and I felt I might struggle to get a good alignment with the connection on the board and maybe cause damage to the board. To feed them back through the cover, you can turn then on their side (through 90 deg). To get them through onto the electronic board is a bit fiddly but very doable with a small screwdriver and some small long nose pliers. Anyway just a thought and your video has been a fantastic help. Many thanks again. 👍

My vacuum after putting it back together pulsates on and off and flashes every indicator light it has. Is it possible that I connected the cables the other way around, like switched the right and left one, and that's what causes the problem?
