Except the ball isn't "legal" anymore because they are required to be within range of specified diameter. Plus the epoxy type isn't an approved surface or repair material.
@rooklv5 жыл бұрын
No. No don't. Just retire it and buy a new one. If this thing grenades in the machinery literally no one will save you from the wrath of the proprietor. Assuming it doesn't just jam up the works in some disastrous way.

My ball has a full length crack too. It's deep and all the way down to the core or whatever the white inside is. Does the epoxy need to be filled in to the bottom of the crack?? That looks like it would take a lot of epoxy to fill it all.
@JonnyDIY Жыл бұрын
The deeper you get it the stronger the repair will be, but depending how wide the crack is it may be too large. It's worth a try though, maybe you can get some more life out of the ball. My repair held up for a ton of games, and is still good even though I don't use it much anymore 👍
@Kartracer95 Жыл бұрын
@Jonny DIY the crack is about an 1/8 wide.

Did you consider using clamps on the ball after gluing it to ensure that it would be as round as it could possibly be?
@JonnyDIY Жыл бұрын
Great idea, never tried that, but maybe some heavy duty pipe clamps would have pulled it together tighter. I'm not sure though, may end up cracking or damaging it more
@jpjay15842 жыл бұрын
it is less the shrinking/expanding from temperature, it's rather that solvents evaporate from the outer layer which makes it shrink, and also less elastic (more brittle) thats why they crack. the [plastic bag prevents it from evaporating into the air. (it kind of "keeps it moist") also CONCRETE is like a sponge and would suck up the solvents at an increased rate compared to a towel or rag.

my ball is crack in between the finger holes - do i repair the same? is there anything i need to do to the finger tips?
@JonnyDIY9 ай бұрын
Yes you can do the same way, try and put some tape on sides of finger holes so it doesn't seep into them 👍
@jb41245 жыл бұрын
Tbh, this is actually a pretty good idea for a fix. The core of the ball is already made of resin and the area you're covering doesn't even make a negligible difference in performance. If anything I'd only suggest to surface the ball entirely, though putting a bit more emphasis on the sides of the ball perpendicular to the crack so you can, over time, slowly regain its perfectly uniform O shape. Screw polish though, unless you're bowling in desert-like lane conditions or we're talking about CTD Turtlewax polish :)

Keep the Crux’s, anything in that BELMONTE Signature series, Lock series etc. I’ll keep using my Bolt, Bolt Pro, Sky Bolt from the 90s. No cracks ever, carry a 232 average with and 22 300’s and 27 800’s.

Jonny DIY Is this ball still going, as far as the ball increasing in circumference-resin balls shrink over time--as do polyester, being out of round-so what, being illegal at this point in bowling history another so what. We've got balls that hook out of the box, lane patterns that guide the ball to the pocket, ABC & USBC had done everything possible to make it easier for bowlers and helped to create an atmosphere where the ball is more important than the delivery. Oh yes have you noticed how the pins fly around, there's a reason for this and it's not skill...sorry for the rant, I just come across a ball in storage that cracked, looks like brand new, gonna try and repair it. I forgot to mention that at this writing USBC wants to raise membership fees.
@JonnyDIY3 жыл бұрын
Ball still going strong! I guess it would be ever so slightly out of round, yes. It is pretty crazy how far the bowling ball technology has come in the last 50 years. Certainly seems easier than it was when I started. But some of the new harder oil patterns they use in certain leagues have put things back in perspective. Happy bowling! 🎳 👍
