I've sewn some clothes over the years, but now wanting to do my own wedding dress (store dresses are SOO EXPENSIVE) I am finally learning how to do things 'proper'. Your videos help A LOT in the process, so thank you thank you thank you!

I want to thank you so much for your videos. Your advice and especially your encouragement have been invaluable to me. I always swore I'd rather make a wedding gown than alter one (I made my own and my eldest daughter's), but when my second daughter to get married wanted to buy one and have it altered, I couldn't say no. The part that gave me the most fits was the one I was able to fix for a strapless sweetheart bodice that gapped horribly. The advice in this video with that gentle gather stitch made it look absolutely perfect, and your other recommendations for the other changes were also spot on. I don't see myself opening a shop, for exactly the reason you mentioned in another video about wanting to help too much and feeling squeemish about asking for money, but I have confidence now in my skills when my other daughters are ready for their dresses. Thanks so much!

This is perfect! I have a gown I’m altering with this issue and never thought of fixing it with the gathering stitch. I found your site while looking for different ways to bustle a wedding gown. I know bustling requires many many steps, but I would so love to see one of your tutorials on bustling multilayer and cathedral train gowns. Those two give me the hardest time ever trying to get the entire dress up in the back and still be something the bride likes. Thank you!

Ive done this quite a few times. I use upholstery thread and smaller stitches. I can pull it and not get any waves. I also use this technique if i have pinned a super tiny dart on the side bust. You can ease out a small amount of fullness. Less than 3/4 inch. And it also takes care of the curl. I take a measurement before and after the pulling so i get the right amount. I love your tips keep them coming

I’ve been doing bridal alterations for 31 years. I turn the bodice inside out, do this easing stitch on the salvage. Sometimes I will also sew 1/8” ribbon on the salvage to reinforce no stretch.

I have always used 1/4 twill tape to snug up the top edge. I can reduce a cup top edge by 1 to 1.5 inches from center front to side seam. Your technique is very slick! Thank you!

@BridalSewing 5 жыл бұрын
Do you mean you make a tunnel with the tape & pull through it with strong thread or elastic?
@mrsmole8876
@mrsmole8876 5 жыл бұрын
No, I pin a length of twill tape along the top edge, then pull one end an inch or so away from the center or underarm and then re-pin the tape in place with slight gaps between each pin and hand stitch it down along both long edges of the tape: fitforaqueen.wordpress.com/2018/09/10/lace-hems-and-straps/ Your double thread technique seems much faster! @@BridalSewing

I found this video while searching for a way to fix a bra that has curled out on the edge of one of the cups, similar to this bodice. So far I haven’t been able to find a tutorial specifically for a bra but I’m hoping this method will solve my problem. If anyone knows of a more relevant method or why this one won’t work for me please let me know? I appreciate any feedback, thanks!

When I see this happen to a bra, it is usually that the outermost layer has shrunk or was stretched too tight when the bra was made.

This is really helpful!! But I was just thinking about that tape you often see on the top of strapless gowns... its not sticky but it's almost like someone ran a glue gun across some tape - its a plasticky material. Do you know what this is called? Is it helpful for keeping gowns up/in place? xxx

Morning. How do you tack hanging ribbons so they do not keep peeking back out to be seen. I try to remove those that are not totally necessary. But with strapless Gowns they need to be preserved for hanging

There is a website - www.bootstrapfashion.com - where you enter a series of very specific measurements and they will calculate and design a dress form pattern in your exact size that you can sew up yourself. It costs only around $25.00 and they provide VERY detailed instructions. You receive it immediately upon payment via a pdf file and just cut it out and tape together. Or, you can take the file to a large scale print vendor so you don't have to piece the pattern. (actually, piecing the pattern was the hardest part, the rest was easy). You can make your own stand with a piece of pvc piping and a circle of plywood, or you can use an old dress form stand. I used a child's coat rack after removing the "branches". I realize that if you're working with customers that would mean making one for each, but if they're repeat customers it might be worth the work. And best yet, because it has a zippered bottom, you can add or remove fiberfill inside it to allow for a person gaining or losing weight. It was fun to make and I LOVE mine!
