I've had one on my 87 wrangler for over 10 years. Basically no failure points. Awesome upgrade to any 4x4. With the combination of lockers, it's unstoppable. I honestly can't believe you don't hear more people swapping out electronic and vacuum systems for these. There's no question of engaging or disengaging. Ever. Plus you can play with having the t case engaged but having the front axle disengaged. Wish I had found this when I installed mine, but it's really very straightforward.

I just bought an 88 wrangler that has this kit. What are the steps to ingage 4wd and disengage 4wd. My 4wd light is on but doesn’t ride like it is in 4wd. Just want the light to go out for reassurance.
@brainswole101Ай бұрын
If the kit was installed correctly, the light is still tied into the vacuum system. To engage 4 wheel drive, stop the vehicle, put the transmission in neutral, put the transfer case in 4 high or 4 low, while slowly rolling forward push in the button on the cable actuator and pull the knob back.

Attempting this tomorrow morning on my 95 Ram 2500 V10. I watched the video twice. I think it helped me understand the instructions better. I found a vacuum line off near the transfer case. I fixed it and it still didn't work,so decided on the cable lock system.i parked on frozen ground, the next day the temps climbed to 60 degrees and the ground got all soggy. Nothing more pathetic than getting stuck in wet grass next to your driveway. Lol
@briansmobile111 жыл бұрын
The kit only engages the axle so if you put it in 4H and don't lock up the axle- you're still only in 2wd. If you put the transfer case in 4L and don't lock the axle you're in 2L essentially. The propeller shaft will spin the diff, but the wheels up front won't drive. It just spins the diff and the stub in the center of the axle.

If you don't want the drill bit penetrating to far, cut a piece of hose to length and put over the bit to shorten the stroke. Less chance of hitting something on the other side. Great video, Thanks.

The fancy lock washer is called an 'internal tooth lock washer. They used to be used a good bit on aircraft, and are great for use on electrical ground lugs and the like. There are also similar 'external tooth lock washers'. You often hear both the internal & external types being called 'Star Washers' Love the videos, Thanks!

lol It's worth it if it's got the Cummins engine in it. They're great on reliability, economy, and still have enough power. You don't buy the Cummins for the Dodge though... you do buy the Dodge to get the Cummins.
@briansmobile111 жыл бұрын
I had my 4x4 go out crawling up an ice road along a cliff up the canyon. I was in a long line of cars and couldn't go fast enough to have enough vacuum to stay locked in. I was not impressed with the vacuum system at all. This requires two steps, but well worth the reliability.

I like this way- I can go full mechanical. There's less to fail. Those motors are great. And Mopar thinks so too. You can tell they're proud of them by the price they ask.

Thanks- I have six position set up on mine too, but it's digital. Diesels are fun for stuff like that. I love watching stuff like that too.

I like how they did it on some years of the Ram, and I believe all Durangos and Dakotas aside from the newest Durango, the wheels stay engaged to the front differential, the only disconnect is in the transfer case. I don't understand why the wheels should disengage from the front differential at all personally.

C-clips are always a PITA. I went to a second hand store and bought a screwdriver with a 3/16" wide blade, heated the end and bent at 90 degrees for about 1/4". Use it as a lever pulling back on the handle and or twist sideways. All c- clips out within 2 minutes with no damage to self or parts.

This is amazing. I absolutely loathe automatic locking hubs, if you can get the temperamental things to engage they won't disengage later! That said, I don't want to get out of my truck to turn manual hubs either... This is a great solution.

awesome video. I know next to nothing about deisel engines. Everything I have learned was for the four stroke, but on Trucks on TNT they had a deisel pickup and they installed a five position switch to adjust the torque. And you can set it more aggresive or less. In one position he was doing burn-outs and in another he was hauling a fifth wheel. I like how your videos are thorough because they always jump around and never show the whole job.

I just did what you did and dropped the fork on the ground and busted the antler off of it. Not happy. I'm dead in the water now until a new fork comes. My hardest part was those stupid E- clips. Update: Just installed the fork and works fine. Actually have to much cable sticking out have it laying on the floor next to my 4wd shifter now. Works great. Love the 2wd Low. Have to be rolling at times for it to engage. Seems the splines don't always line up

The d30 in my jeep has that, they used it till 91 in cherokees then smartened up and got rid of it. We just pull the cover off, take the C clip out and slide the fork over, and then put the clip back in.

I love this Idea, 2 low rocks for trailering in any 4X4. our old Cherokee had the same set up but the vacuum line (frame to front end) would always break so we would climb under and manually lock it.. it was a pain but we had to have 4X4 where we lived up big hallow road. this would have been nice then as well.

Anyone have a problem with it not disengaging all the way? Mine doesn't pull the sleeve over enough and will grind against the splines.

Well front end on Dodge is actually one wheel drive. If you get in 4WD it will actually power one of the wheels on front, not both. You have to convert to like ARB kit.

Some '01's have disc in rear- mine doesn't. It's drum : ( I plan to swap the axle some time in the future. Mine's just in such good shape it's hard to justify. As for shift on the fly, I have to do both things, but it does it fine while moving for 4wd high or low on the posilock, but the truck still likes to be in Neutral for the 4wd low on the transfer case side.

Hi Brian.. I've had a '97 2500 (12 valve) for a few years. 4WD-hi works fine (still with the vacuum setup, though), but I've never been able to shift it into the neutral or 4WD-low positions. Do you happen to know if there's some interlock that might be preventing me from being able to push the lever over to the right to get to those positions? I've never gotten around to looking closely at this, and I figured you might save me some time if you've encountered this before.

It doesn't come on all the time, maybe once or twice a month and goes off in a few hrs to a few days--- any suggestions since like i said the sensor is under 2 years old and would just have it without the intermittent on and off, last time i got an inspection as the guy was pulling it out the light went on Any ideas?
