I'm 52 and thanks to people like you and my disdain for consumerism I've never had to pay for any appliance as most were a simple cheap issue and or in need of a thorough cleaning. Last summer I fixed and donated 56 window ACs as I consider those a quality of life appliance to elderly and children. Again, thanks for "donating" your knowledge to us out in TV land.

I've watched this video several times and think I've found one ambiguity. Please comment. Did you put the wire back onto the heating element before testing the thermal cutoff (or high temp thermostat) ? I guess it doesn't matter? Saw a brief image of the wire back on the heating element. then later you took BOTH wires off the thermal cutoff . Could I also test it with zero wires connected to it?

This was a great video and helped me test most of the components. However, there is one section that was not very clear and that was in the section of the video beginning around 2 minutes where you are testing the dryer element. When I did this test I tested between the two terminals and I got continuity. However, when I touched the top pin on the thermostat I did not. However, it didn't occur to me at first to be a problem because you stated you can test either one. It would have been helpful if you had broken this into two tests. One for the element and one for the thermostat. I eventually figured it out but it was a bit confusing to me at first. Thanks for the great video however. Besides that small clarification, it was the best video and the most thorough I have seen to date.

This video is an INCREDIBLE resource that came at just the right time. One question: do you have a suggestion for a repair kit to buy that is compatible with this model? I purchased this one but was unable to resolve my dryers issue after replacing all 5 components with what came inside the kit. Additionally there is a “jumper cable” in the kit that supposedly connects the bottom right two elements, but I can’t figure out how to install it. Maybe that’s the issue or maybe I bought the wrong kit. Do you have a suggestion for a compatible kit to buy? Thank you for such a thorough and well done video!
@bensappliancesandjunk
@bensappliancesandjunk 2 жыл бұрын
The jumper wire connects the thermostat to the heating element. Most newer kits have a thermostat that has a welded arm that connects to that piece. All the parts we currently sell are here: bens-appliances.com/collections/whirlpool-dryer If you replaced the element and sensors, you'd want to make sure you're getting 240v to the terminal block, then check the timers' contacts. Both things are mentioned in the video.
@projectkickass5989
@projectkickass5989 2 жыл бұрын
@@bensappliancesandjunk Thank you for that tidbit about the welded arm, that makes a lot of sense - that’s why the jumper cable wouldn’t connect, the welded arm was already connected to the heating element, leaving no room for the jumper cable to connect. Unfortunately you don’t currently carry the parts I would have needed to fix the dryer but I hope that you are able to sell all the parts you have and add even more- my dryer started working after I removed some of the replacement parts from the link and left a few others on. I really appreciated the thorough nature of this video and it helped me to repair my dryer when I had tried with other videos but was unable to correctly diagnose the faulty parts. Thanks again, and I wish you all the success in the world!

I have this, or a very similar Millenium version. The issue mine has is that, especially on large loads, the clothes are not quite dry, even when the timer is set to Auto Dry - "More dry". We clean out the lint trap after every use and clean the outside house vent cover. Is there a moisture sensor that needs to be cleaned/replaced? I didn't see it in your video. Thanks.

I ran these tests and at 2.47 you said that if it gives you a reading on the casing, it’s grounded to the cabinet - which could be dangerous. Mine did give a reading on the casing, but I’m not sure what you mean or what to do to fix it. Could you possibly elaborate?
@bensappliancesandjunk
@bensappliancesandjunk Жыл бұрын
If your element is grounding to the casing it means the electric is going thru the coils into the metal of the heating cannister. That's bad. It means the electric isn't going thru the coils entirely so less heat. What can happen is since the heating system is literally warped it can heat that metal up instead of the coils causing all kinds of crazy issues. Replace the element immediately if you get any reading thru 1 spade terminal and the casing itself

Hey, if a dryer is taking longer to dry, is that a timer or heating element issue?
@qualityfirstapplianceservi5449
@qualityfirstapplianceservi5449 2 жыл бұрын
If it is taking longer than usual to dry a load of clothes and you feel the clothes are getting hot during the cycle. You have a blockage in the vent system. Check the lint screen, check the transition (slinky) hose between the dryer and wall. If they are clear then you need to clean the vent ducting and exhaust port on the outside whether on the outside wall or roof.

I replaced the 3 parts except for the fuse which tested ok. I ordered them from you and they arrived a day early. I ran it for a minute or two and it seems very hot is it because I had nothing wet in the dryer or could I have attached something incorrectly? I tried blowing out the vent tube and there is air coming out the outside vent, so I don't think there is a blockage anywhere. Appreciate your import. Thanks, Kathy.

Wife and kids keep leaving crap on top of the dryer and it ends up tripping it. I do have an issue where it's no longer drying as well as it used to I'll try opening it up. And cleaning it . It either does a short fill etc or it will fill up first then drain. There are no Resets. In a general what is best best to fix or repair? . I am single and machine is about 13 yrs old with a small to medium load about every 10 days. Big load 2X/year. Retail at the time was about $1050 CAN funds, so not exactly cheap. Worked perfectly until this happened. Just a mention.

OL usually is a leveling code. I'd check the suspension rods and see if they are bouncy or if the tub snaps back quickly. If its bouncy like a basketball, the suspension rods have gone bad. If they are tight, it may be a larger fundemental problem like the board or motor.

Heater wires connect plus and minus - a very little bit, so it doesn't short out and trip your circuit breaker - and glow red and get hot when they work. If they're bumped hard and break, or break from overheating/long life, the actual metal wires won't be connected anymore. Most of these parts are tested for resistance/ohms/continuity. The multimeter runs electricity through the part's leads when testing resistance "ohms" or continuity. When the metal wires aren't connected anymore, you'll have infinite resistance or '0' or no continuity. The other main use of a multimeter is testing live voltages, either AC (110v house power etc) or DC (battery voltages).

What are your thoughts on a heat pump dryer?

Not a fan. You're putting a compressor beside an electric motor and now have two huge failure points instead of one. It's not something you'd want to go cheap in certainly

What if we replace all the fuses the heating element and the timer and it still doesn’t heat?😢

Check to see if its actually getting 240v at the terminal block, and run the thing w/ the leads on the terminal block to make sure you're actually getting the flow of 240v while under load. If not, there's an issue before the terminal.

Mine just started acting up, first there's no heat, also the timer moves like normal except will never cross the threshold of end of the cycle to stop. Opening the door will not stop the dryer. The only way is to manually turn set timer to STOP. I have to turn the timer to stop to turn it off. It all started at once. The one that boggles my mind is the timer works all the way up to the end of the cycle, then it just stays there and will not move into the stop area.

always wondered why manufacturers put auto dry and timer minutes on the dial...isn't the ultimate goal to dry your clothes...i would think the dampness sensors would be more accurate than "guessing" the amount of minutes it takes to dry something...probably one less sensor to worry about
@bensappliancesandjunk
@bensappliancesandjunk 2 жыл бұрын
People sometimes like the option of timed dry so they can set it and come back at the pre-determined time. That and auto-dry is a typical fail point due to sensor bars.

And these are the best dryers. The fancy looking 1s that match a front loader washer, if are a Kenmore Oasis/Maytag Bravos/Whirlpool Cabrio (rotor stator), if are traditional maytag/admiral, GE/Haier, Electrolux/Frigidaire, LG, Samsung, Fischer Paykel, are all turds.

I have one of these dryers and it is borderline junk, don't buy it. First thing we noticed is that every time you clean the lint filter, a little grill on the outdoor exhaust is completely plugged up afterwards when you run it. Almost without fail. Now it is less than 2 years old and it's starting to play drum solos already, when the clothes are wet. I no longer trust the Maytag name at all anymore
