In this video, I show you how to overhaul an Ulka vibratory pump, to revive the performance of your coffee or espresso machine. This can be done for basically all vibratory pumps, and I exhibit it on a Delonghi Dedica EC680. Hi, I have an Odea go. When I start it normally and it does the priming and rinsing, it doesn't have pressure, the pump seems to go slow like there is a clog, not enough water comes out. But when I start it in service mode, the pump seems to work ok and it has pressure through the brew group. Also has pressure through the steam way. It is also clean and fresh descaled. Might it be the pump, too used?

Tom sir, I know this is an old video and I'm not sure if you have already figured this out or not but I seen you fighting that hose here and I believe you broke a nipple before because of a hose. If you twist your hose before you pull it it'll usually pop right off.

Thank you! My dear coffe machine works again. ($500 machine, found in a dumster, ten years ago, with a faulty on/off switch) I would not have thought that little ball would wear down, but it makes sence since it rests directly on the edge of the spring. The ball had become so small, it had nested itself inside the spring and it was milk white rather than clear. So, did I order a repair kit? No, I happen to know that ordinary soap dispenser pumps work with a similar type of valve. I cut apart a soap dispenser and in there was a clear little ball of exactly 3,9 mm. It fits and the pump now works. I also flushed the heating element with diluted citric acid to dissolve any chalk build up. Free espresso machine is ready for ten more years of service. Thanks again!

didn't work :( It doesn't shoot back any water back into the tank so most probably the problem is indeed the pump. I'm going to order a real set and see if that works. if not, I'll order a new pump and valve.

Thanks, wonderful! Owning a Philips Saeco Cynthia HD8837 that has been working like charms for number of years, thinks it is over 13 years. Last couple of years with lover water pressure which forced me to put the grinder to more coarse grinding, with more watery espresso... Now worse than ever and saw this video. Simple procedure to order and change the parts, have not been able to measure the pressure, but the espresso on fine grinded coffee tastes perfect. My ball was very small ;) 3,2 at max...Thanks again for your time and dedication!

Thanks for the detailed instructions in this video! My Delonghi Dedica EC680 was giving only 6 bar pressure, so I went ahead and replaced the ball and gasket. This fix improved the pressure to 8 bar, but still not good enough for espresso. Finally I replaced the pump and I was able to reach 11 bar pressure. I noticed some white stains on the old pump that were probably caused by a very small water leak.

Thanks a lot as your vid cut off my disassembly time at least 50 %. Got some different problem with flow as well fixed , but for reference the brand new pump unit have 500ml displacement for one cup as well as done within 12 seconds from push bottom start to stop the pump cycle. Another machine as have one for spare, have interesting problem as filling one cup with 500 ml within 11,8 seconds but when make double cup then do the same job as fill up 500 ml within 11,8 seconds and stop the process seems must be software problem . Problem were remdy as follows - Just an FYI to make it a bit easier if you need to do this again. You should be able to reprogram the shot time/length whenever you want by simply holding the button (single or double shot) down and not releasing it until you have the amount you want. It will remember that setting from then on. Thanks this guy and this issue also fixed. When the pump is weak and worn out as sometimes for fill up the 500 ml need 21 seconds to stop the process. So timing of pump is good to remedy the pump statement on time. Even if pump is worn out with this keep button you can complete the cup filling until replacement pump arrival

I recently purchased a used Isomac E61 machine that was not operating. After testing it and concluding that the pump wasn't working I took off the cover to inspect and remove the pump. My conclusion is that vibratory pumps are too noisy for use in a home appliance. But if one must use one in an espresso machine, there should be a more robust method of mounting the pump to the chassis while minimizing vibration noise. The stock rubber mounts are grossly inadequate.

HCM15 hotpoint built in using this pump, Hotpoint want £80 for a new one. Its on amazon for £20. Have read its designed to be replaced rather than serviced but definitely worth trying this out. My fault was preceded by small leak(dunno where) with humming/buzzing noise. The machine will do one espresso before shutting down and displays "fault in water system". When i turn it off overnight and back on next morning it does one coffee, somewhat confused why a leak occured once but not again and its making coffee fine but shutting down. Im guessing a safety mechanism to protect machine.

The steam wand works, but I sometimes get droplets of water, and there's very little steam coming out. Do you think this is a problem with the steam valve, pump or OPV? @@TomsCoffeeCorner Extraction seems to be fine. When I run the "cooling cycle" after steaming, I get a lot of without water, too. At least until it cools down enough and it turns into the hot water delivery. That's why I think it might be something wrong with the steam pressure or one of the valves. Also the steam isn't really constant, you can definitely see it comes in waves - a bit of steam, almost nothing, a bit of steam. This happens quite quickly though, maybe once every second or so.

Not sure what you want to test...how are you trying to test them? I would guess that you might get continuity between the two terminals when the wheel inside is oriented towards the receiver.

Great video Tom!!! Do you know how often should be replaced this ball and gasket? I do not have a manometer to measure the bars. Or any simple test to verify if maintenance is required? I am thinking if testing the water flow (scale with timer) with a presurized basket could give any hint
@TomsCoffeeCorner
@TomsCoffeeCorner 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Rincon, I honestly didn't know before testing with a manometer. But my machine is at least 5 years old, and sees daily use. I figure this would be good to replace every 5 years in that case. Also, if the pressure is completely absent, then it is probably the OPV that needs replacing. Cheers!

Hi! My machine disposes water through the side pipe (the one for hot water/generating steam to foam the milk), but the main part (through which comes the water for coffe) doesnt work at all. All I can hear is a buzzing sound coming from the pump probably but without water. Do you think it still may be the ball and the seal issue?

It's ridiculous that a tiny plastic ball and gasket costs £5 but you can buy the entire pump for £14. Are they really saying that that ball and gasket is over a third of the cost of the entire pump? They should be tuppence.

Hey Bob, well it is third-party selling these, and of course they want to make a profit. I’m sure that the parts only cost pennies.

I was thinking the same, but ordering the same rated and foodsafe parts in low numbers is very tricky. Ive tried aliexpress, and ive found some sellers for the casket, and for foodsafe balls .. i just dont know if i want to wait 2 weeks and find out either they dint fix the problem or leaking plastics in my coffee due to the seller i pick, cheaped out and got a regular part. When you buy in bulk, those sellers tend to sell you probably the stuff you need, and food safe. 5 bucks is not bad, in my opinion. If no shipping 😅

DON'T DO IT !!! I decided to follow your advice and to change the joint and the ball of the pump although these pumps are cheap However it was a mistake and a full waist of time, because there was an air/water leak in the pump that the changing of the ball and joint didn't solve. Changing the pump did the job. Friends, do not hesitate one minute. If your pump shows signs of disfunction like not working at all, or mixing air with the water, or stop to give a good pressure, don't try to repair it like this video claims it : change it. The price of a pump is around 20€ the price of the ball and joint around 6€. I don't like to waist too, but the difference is not worth it.

@TomsCoffeeCorner
@TomsCoffeeCorner Жыл бұрын
Well, there will be some issues there. I am actually surprised the screen turns on, as the circuit board and electronics were designed for a different voltage amplitude and frequency. The pump is also designed for 120V, which means that 220V will not be compatible. Or do you have it plugged into a transformer? I have one like this: amzn.to/403c71S
