Just a tip. Put your spray cans in hot water for a few minutes before using, it helps build pressure and thins the paint for a finer spray.

Hey I am an automotive painter. My advice would be to go slower with the clear coating sprays. You will achieve better results with only two coats. Because as you slow down the clear has more of a chance to build up as it’s laying down.

@@springer-qb4dv the trick is, giving away all my secrets here but, look at the surface you are applying clearcoat to on an angle find the reflection of whatever light source is hitting it and use that as your guide apply a smooth even layer of clearcoat based on the reflection if it builds up too much it will run a good layer of clear will look almost slightly dry when you are finished applying it but as time goes on it should self level out.

It looks pretty good, but for a little constructive criticism I would of done 1 layer of basecoat after sanding, then when applying the clear coat only apply 2 layers, with the first one being really thin and letting it dry for a few minutes to create a glue for the 2nd coat to stick to, and on the 2nd coat lay it down thick, the glue you create from the first coat will allow you to lay on a really thick coat without it running: also spray bottom up instead of top down to work against gravity. Then after 24 hours of drying you wet sand it with 5000 grit sandpaper, followed by compound, and polish. Wait 30 days for the paint to fully cure to the metal surface then apply wax for that showroom shine finish.

For a cheap fix, it's perfect. If it's super faded, our local paint supply can mix body color in spray cans, so you can freshen the base coat before you clear. In this case, super fix on the cheap. Awesome work.

@@Iknowyoumadnow Yes $40 is way too expensive. My car was dark red color so I went to home depot with a paper and sprayed sample of all the dark red spray paint they had. Then came back to my car and compared samples to my car's color and chose closest one. It worked out great - repainted rear quarter of car and can barely see difference between original color and the home depot off shelf spray paint.

If you have guitar string or piano wire or solid welding wire a piece of it wrapped around a couple small vise grips and clamp the wire in the vise grips will take emblems and moldings off a car with zero damage to the finish or emblems. Just don't use it like a saw , pull the shorter side towards you and hold the longer side firm . Promise you it's the best way to remove emblems and mouldings that are attached with two sided tape, also works great for rain guards.

With rattle can. You'd be better served not spraying like you're using a paint gun, because it's a paint can. And it's single action. So the starts and stops of the trigger are the worst sprays. So you should not let off from top to bottom. Treat the middle of the spray, the fan, as the guild and spray the very top with the middle of the fan, move down 1 or 2 inches every pass. That panel looks about 15 inches. So you should have done about 11-15 passes.

Pretty good job on the cheap and huge improvement over what you started with. I guess when doing these sort of jobs you can spend a fortune on superior expensive products and getting paints professionally matched at an auto-paint store etc, but you really need to take into account the age and value of the vehicle when deciding how much you invest in your time and money. Your approach for this particular vehicle was probably the right balance.

John Wren 🤔 hmmm, I don’t think I’ve said the word lacquer ever in my life. You may have misunderstood me.

Awesome! You should rename the video to 90 min clearcoat hack. I recently rattle canned the grill and bumper of my 21 year old F150. Cost me 30 bucks and it came out so shiny, I had to dull it up so it would somewhat match the rest of the car.

I noticed that you didn't alternate painting vertical and horizontal. You will need to sand it down to get rid of the orange peel and polish to a really nice smooth finish. Good painting job though.💯👍

MoBang FoYoBucks I did a few up and downs but mostly left to right. I am def planning on polishing the whole van soon so I will focus on the tailgate as well. Trying to decide if I want to attemp to do the quarter panel. But it’s hard to find the nauticle blue color I need to do a little touch up first grrrrr. Also polishing the badges and putting them back on

@@sweetbabysean look for the color code on the manufacturer sticker. You can Google with that code for the correct match color. There plenty of people sell it out there.

I LOVE how ghetto this was, I really sympathize with that i mean if you don't have masking tape and you wanna do it.. you use whatever tape you have haha I can't believe it came out so nice, I wonder why.. everyone doesn't do this

some folk say if you do it this way the peeling original clearcoat comes nack in a few months/it becomes viable again. im not sure but maybe this is a great method with just a bit more aggression/time on sanding the original clearcoat off. but thats a balance because then you might sand some of the colour/base coat away, so might need a can of basecoat coloured spray paint too, before the clearcoat.?

I tried using base coat (dupli-color- silver metallic) with Spray max 1K clear coat on my old corolla's faded/peeled roof but it did not work well because I have lines on it. I have to re-do again the whole roof again today and this time I will warm up the can first but the dupli-color are not cheap ($15 per 8 oz - can say touch up only - did not say paint whole roof). I wished I just use clear coat because yours turned out great; however, my faded /clear coat peeled are worst than yours but I think just clear coat may blend in better even I might see the faded paint. Thanks for the video.
