In all my many years in the trade, I had never thought of adding some colour to the filler when filling. I’ve always spot primed afterwards. Never to old to learn a new trick. Thanks for the tip 👍🏻

Lost count of the number of jobs I've done like this.The cracks never come back. Many thanks. I use the tubs of ready mixed filler... they take a drop of paint well and no flashing.

Nice one.. makes such a difference always have a can on the job.. thanks
@richardmcdougall2333 жыл бұрын
It maybe depends on just what brand type of ready mix filler you use. Some are better than others
@colliedogjoy3 жыл бұрын
The ones I mix to a hard stop are both Polyfiller, the All Purpose and the Quick Drying. Both heavy tubs, not lightweight acrylic fillers.

Great work and well done as per usual. Please I have a 2mm or so crack line open along one side of a 4 metre length ceiling/wall intersection. Do you recommend using the expanding foam or adhesive foam of your favourite brand and what spacing do you suggest for the holes? Sorry last question, should I try to push back or support ceiling board, whilst the foam is setting, or not bother about a 2 mm sag? Many thanks...
@PaintingandDecorating3 жыл бұрын
You could try and push back but 2mm probably not noticeable. We only use expanding gap filling foam which acts like a adhesive anyway. Watch this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/apmZqHeLZr2DqpI

I have watched your previous videos and used this technique. It’s worked great with only one or two cracks coming back. Question; what do you do if there is no cavity behind the crack for the foam to mushroom out onto the back of the board? I think I have a joist/ beam behind one I am trying to fix at the moment. Still use the foam or try mechanical fixing? Any guidance much appreciated and thank you for all the great videos!

Thank you... screws can help and small amount of foam.
@richardmcdougall2333 жыл бұрын
I think you can get " no expand " foam.

Interesting. What's the purpose of the holes and foam? To stop the crack coming back?

Thanks.... it all acts like a flexible stitch.

Literally exactly what I’ve been doing today in my own bedroom. Few ceiling cracks but the ceiling has been over boarded so I only poked holes through the first plasterboard and foamed them in. Effectively gluing one plasterboard to the original underneath. Done it in a few other rooms of my house and it holds well. I did however use guardz rather than pva… purely because I had a tin next to me and the pva was in the garage haha! Seems to set the foam off in the same time and seal the dust down too. Using toupret tx110 at the minute which seems good gear to go off quick! Thanks for the upload ! Marc

@@ryansmyth3877 Okay mate.........fair enough, but care to enlighten the rest of us instead of just sniping. Where appropriate, I use this method with great success......and it's all down to these guys. I also use other methods, ie mechanical fixings in other situations..........but genuine request, share your knowledge.

Hi, what is the logic / function of the holes and the foam, as opposed to just using pva and filler? And is it a rule to have a hole at the beginning and end of the crack? (As you'd do with tears along the grain in wood, because it creates a stop to the wood 'tearing' further...) I would imagine that you'd need to put foam along the whole length of the crack...

not sure I understand the purpose of the expanding foam?
@shayanchaudhary86133 жыл бұрын
I beleive it's for filling in any large gaps and lettings the "loose" plaster stick to the material behind it as it can act like glue stopping any further cracks from forming in the same area.

@@PaintingandDecorating admittedly it was my first attempt, probably didn't widen the crack enough or pva mixture wrong. one of a few mistakes i made on the ceiling including plaster falling off when rolling paint where somebody had filled over nails, lint falling off roller.

@Brandon-ko3rf3 жыл бұрын
Mate, you’re meant to use tape over plaster then plaster over, not expanding spray filler. 🧐
@NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot3 жыл бұрын
You do realise that cracks that are taped over can still and often do crack because the actual issues of movement are still there? Ie cracks after brand new plastering appearing on joins and corners etc. the foam stops movement, which causes cracks, very simple
