How to fix g37 sunroof leak ( part 1)

How to fix a leaking sunroof drain on G37s coupe with some basic around the home stuff. The OEM designed drain at the firewall has to be one of the worst ever and eventually will leak back into the cars interior. I looked around on here and couldn't find any how to fix videos and decided to give it a try. Also I apologize for the background music coming from my pickup ( I will be more mindful next time ) I had no idea until after replaying the video that it was that loud. Z1 now sells these. www.z1motorsports.com/roof-interior-trim/infiniti/oem-infiniti-g35-g37-sunroof-drain-pluggrommet-front-p-20162.html They also even mention the mod that you'll absolutely want to do in both removing the baffle (which is a dumb design to begin with) and putting in another tube to extend it passed the firewall. Here's what is written for those that don't want to click the link. "G37 Sunroof Drain Mod: Some customers cut out the baffle and attach an 1in - 2in length 1/4th hose in it's place to allow the water to flow pass the firewall without having to worry about water making it's way into the cabin. This is a recommended "mod" to do to prevent the dreaded water soaked floor boards on both driver and passenger sides."

Those look good! I'd just cut the plastic piece that clogs up and it'll be almost to factory specs again.. nice. 📌

Thank you! I have had this issue with my G37 for years and have been covering my sunroof with plastic daily ever since I found it was leaking from there. What a horrible job on infiniti's part for this. The drivers side is the lucky one. The passenger side is where mine leaks and the car computer just so happens to be right under where it leaks so when it leaks one can expect all kinds of issues, including the car not starting, the full dash shutting off and directionals going on by themselves, to name a few. I'm first going to try and snake weed wacker line through the line. If that goes through then chances are my seal is like yours and I'll now know how to get to it. Thanks again!

Thank you very much for this video. I followed it to fix my G37 couple yesterday and the problem appears to be solved so far, no leaking after a heavy rain in the morning. I do want to say that it is not easy to take the yellow piece out and put it back, especially on the passenger side, need to deal with the firewall...for people who want to fix by yourself, this issue can be solved! but you need to have good tool and patience. dealership will be more than happy to rip you off.

Thanks so much for posting this video and part 2! I had been dealing with the leak for over a year. I have a 2011 G37x sedan. My leak was on the passenger side and the water would affect my BCM causing my car not to start and the electrical system of the car to act weird. Also, the blower motor for the air conditioner wouldn't work for a few days after a heavy rain. I had it at the dealership for over a week once and they couldn't find the leak. I also had these guys called 'The Water Doctor' (2 different ones) look at it and they couldn't find the leak either. I moved cities and one later described over the phone where the leak was that you point out in the video. I found your video the day he described that to me. The step by step was perfect! Prying that clip out and putting it back in was the toughest though because of how far back it was and how small of an area to fit your hands and tools in. I did exactly how you did it though, using the tube from an ink pen and all. Was genius! Seriously can't say thanks enough. I love my car (it's also paid off) but was so close to trading it in and having a car payment as this was such a hassle and made the car unreliable if caught out in the rain etc. It's been over a couple months now since I fixed it and so far so good. So thanks again Trent, you helped me out a bunch.

@@Appforyou510 sorry for the late response, just saw your question. Mine wasn't, only my front passenger floor. I didn't look but I believe there are 4 drainage tubes (one in each corner) for the sun roof. The one on the back driver side could maybe be clogged or something. Good luck!

Nice video. When you pull down the black trim piece is it hard to reinstall / and will it effect the door seal if you can't get it back to how it was? Thanks

BigUrdieOfficial , It's a window seal so yes it has to be put back but it literally slides off of a seam if I remember correctly. My tip is to put it back up the in reverse of how you take it down. It's as simple as lining it up and bumping it back in place with the side of your fist.

I don’t know if your still responding to these comments, but after we took the vent out and tried too take the piece off with the two clips, the middle clip is a green clip connected in there on both sides. Do you have any idea on how we could take that piece out?

Mine had started to smell also. It's definitely not too late . I fixed it and changed the cabin filter and after a few weeks it all went away.

Alejandro Romany , Gently pull the a pillar towards the passenger side of the car . Just enough to pop it free. Then pull up away from the windshield to free it from the ac vent. Just take your time and you should get it.

lucky you that you only have sun roof leaking my start with roof itself water come down along a door trim n flood front n rear both driver n passenger now start with sun roof never buy a nissan

@@C6co66 That depends on the leak. One thing's for sure small leaks eventually become bigger leaks. If you're feeling damp carpet then it's about to get bad.

My car wasn't hard to do at all. You will need something long enough like a flat head screwdriver or needle nose pliers to get the drain back into the hole. But other than that (imo) it was maybe a 6 or 7 out of ten with ten being the most difficult.

So I just attempted this fix in my 2011 Sedan, I’ve done engine swaps that took less time lol..frankly I think you’re far better off just adding onto the hose and sticking the additional hose out the hole. This is an absolutely rediculous part and whoever designed this shit should be shot. I got everything out clean and added a straw to drain and I could not get the plastic firewall peice back in for 3 hours even with 14” needle nose pliers. I had it lined up however you are fighting insulation and a weird approach angle. I even but the side of my air vent to allow better access and still could not. Eventually the peice was destroyed and I was forced to add the hose extension but in hindsight I would have done that from the start. What a fucking stupid design Nissan. Give your head a shake. I’m adding this comment to a few of these videos just as a heads up to anyone attempting it.

I saw another guy have the insulation in the way as well as the gasket break apart on him. It's definitely not the easiest hack but can be done. Nissan really screwed this one up.

I feel like it’s the type of thing that you will either get within the first 5 minutes or it will take hours lol..the insulation to the left (on the passenger side) is very hard to push out of the way and gave me a bunch of problems resulting in bending the plastic peice. I’d say after an hour of trying to get it back in just extend the hose lol..very frustrating repair

I have mines for sale. I dont have time for stuff like this. Maybe if the factory take their time when they make cars this wont be a problem. But factorys make these cars in 1 day. Rush to sell shit to the masses. I hate these new cars.
