In my case is happening after replacing intake manifold gaskets, which were the source of a major vacuum leak. My short and long fuel trims were crazy, now they are at zero, or were at zero after gasket fixed. Short remains at zero now, while long is creeping back up.

To test this the engine needs to be running correct?

I have this very problem with my Lincoln ls, I hit the gas trying to beat a red light it went over 4k rpm and it started to idle rough and eventually refused to start now it's sitting in my driveway, any suggestions on how to fix would be awesome, thanks!

This is a vehicle and an issue we do not have direct experience with. However, if the vehicle is stock then it is likely a sensor or component failure of some kind. Your standard diagnostic procedures, starting with a code check, should lead you to an answer.

Yo I have the same problem. Code p0357 which is the ignition coil. Fixed that, replaced the spark plug, replaced the wiring harness and still the same problem. Starting to think it’s the throttle body. So confusing it’s like I’m getting nowhere

It turned out to be a dirty maf sensor, cleaned it with some crc and it fired right up

Why max them out to effectively completely remove the ability for the ECU to protect the engine and notify the driver when it occurs? Can’t you also increment these values until the problem goes away, so the ECU can still respond when a real event occurs? This feels a lot like hacking that has been done in other areas of calibrations (usually fuel) in the past but is largely frowned upon by current standards.

Thanks for the comment! I'll help explain. The way the ECM monitors for Misfires is by observing the time between events (firings of the cylinders), and watching for RPM drops in between each event. It's the only way the ECM "knows" there's a misfire happening. A weak combustion (due to a misfire on a stock cam vehicle) would imitate the way a cammed vehicle behaves. As a result, it is no longer a reliable method of misfire detection. About the protections you mentioned, there's only a few, such as forcing the vehicle into open loop fueling and TCC disable that are the result of the factory misfire detection routines, which are mainly for people who are not car enthusiasts and couldn't detect a misfire on their own. I'd imagine anyone owning a heavily cammed vehicle would be educated enough to know the difference between when an engine is running well or not. Hope this helps!

@@BobRocket78 Understood, that's it, you got it,but it's strange; with any camshaft, the time between firing events ,still will be the same, (if there are no misfires); I think it's not the time between firings; it's the (I)REGULARITY of ONE WHOLE ROTATION (360º) of the crank; and a "big" cam with its lumpy idle brings IRREGULARITY at low speeds (he is at 831 RPMs,if you go look at the video); You see, sometimes a car would come up with a misfire code, BUT this was ONLY caused by the rough road it was on; you see,the wheels themselves (thru the trans) would put on (and take off) torque on the crank, back and forth, making its rotation IRREGULAR, and the ECU THINKS it was a misfire...boom...a misfire code; WRONG! That's why cars have a G sensor to inform the ECU of the rough road situation, and when this one fails,FALSE misfire codes appear and lots of money is spent... plugs, coils, injectors, ECUs, etc,and the harm is still there, not fixed yet. Kind of how the all-ignorant and incompetent courts of law can't make heads or tails of the matter, for they know nothing about it, they never leave the desk!!!nor of the fishy lawyers from each side, and end up randomly according to the lawyer the yells the loudest, deciding one thing, appeals decides another, superior court another,etc...basically STEALING the money from the taxpayers, while RUINING some people's lives, and the shht never gets fixed,or does .but randomly; i am stubborn for the TRUTH,i never had ONE car that defeated me; not yet, anyway...LOL

@@BobRocket78 why would a car manufacturer force open loop on low boost. Lower boost than the detected low boost is worse for the car.
