Decades off bums hitting that plaster above the bulge is how it was created. Folks lifting furniture up and down pushing the wall has eased it out over time. You always seen those kinda bulges on places of heavy traffic or a turning point/ doorway. Great filling that, tidy 👌🏻

Doing repair work myself at moment, one of the best video ever found. Very useful indeed! Best bit is it showed very similar wall construction to ours with all sort of different material...wall liner, brown ”sand”, plastr bits, timber strip....For better knowledge, pls can you tell me if it a ” drywall ” or ”hardwall? Thanks

Done it this way, and now and again an initial layer of cement (depending where it is) after sealing. True enough about bonding plaster staining although you could use stain blocker.

Lovely job. Why do you use Polyfilla top coats? Is it because it's easier to sand than the Diall?
@PaintingandDecorating4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, it dries slower gives you more time and is better to sand.
@markrowland53934 жыл бұрын
@@PaintingandDecorating Thanks - yes, the slower setting time and easy sanding are both good on the top coats.

Love your work, but couldn’t help grimacing at the stair to skirting board joint. They should have cut both stairs and skirt at 18.5 degrees to get a good interface. Remedy; cut two fillets with a plumb cut and a 18.5 degree cut on each fillet. Cut back skirt and stair to fit. This will get rid of the hideous joint at the stair and skirt interface. Keep up the good work
@PaintingandDecorating4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, not sure if the skirting has been replaced over time.

Important to use a quick drying filler or else the filler will take days to dry because the repair was so deep.

I’ve got a problem with an inch gap between the staircase timber and the wall,,,,I’m not sure what to fill it with,,, there’s a chunk of what ever was used to fill the gap in has fell in and gone down under the stairs,,,it looks like some sort of old plasterboard,,,what’s best for filling it in buddy because I can see a hole that goes straight down under the stairs,,,,have you got an email of anything on social media that I can send you a picture so you would have a better idea,,👍👍
@chrisward97454 жыл бұрын
I would think foam is a good starting point, as in this video, then same steps to get filler finish.

@@PaintingandDecorating looks like same staircase as the one you've just done the horizontal crack?
@explorewithant4 жыл бұрын
Painting and Decorating yes cheers mate but your hole is mainly in the wall plaster where’s mine is next to the staircase timber,,,,my staircase is about an inch and half away from the wall so my hole is a straight drop down between the stairs and wall,,,if I put expanding expanding form in mine then it will probably just drop straight down,,I think who ever plastered the wall has just plastered the gap and and it’s a chunk of old plaster that’s fell out the gap,,not sure what to do now mate
@markrowland53934 жыл бұрын
@@explorewithant Maybe try to get something solid in the hole to start with e.g. bit of tile, bit of brick, semi set plaster. Then use foam and filler.

Also, just try out some Toupret TX110 filler, another massive time saver. Stuff is amazing. No depth limitation, can just bang it straight in and then feather it over the top with the same gear. Trust!

That's what i use as well , great filler , i find it far better than Polyfilla or Easyfill . Doesn't tend to flash as much either.

@acropolisnow94664 жыл бұрын
@@orbitalforest It's a top product, one of those rare things that is worth every penny spent. The fact that it has no depth limitations is probably one of the biggest selling points for me. Strong as anything too. To be able to do nasty ceiling repairs and suchlike then paint on the same day is fantastic.

multi-tool would save a lot of time
@PaintingandDecorating4 жыл бұрын
My tools work fine multi-tool okay but can always break and not worth replacing. Plus I carrie my tools in my pouch, stick with what works the best on all levels..
@acropolisnow94664 жыл бұрын
@@PaintingandDecorating Yeah I hear that, keep my manual tools that I'm using with me in a pouch too. A decent electric multi-tool is a good investement tho, can cut with speed and accuracy on stuff like this, neaten things up swiftly and so on. Good at altering small areas of wood with accuracy too.
@acropolisnow94664 жыл бұрын
@@PaintingandDecorating No different from owning an electric jigsaw to be fair.
@PaintingandDecorating4 жыл бұрын
@@acropolisnow9466 Not saying they may have uses, but not for me, just something more expensive that will break at some point. My tools need no electric no batteries...
@acropolisnow94664 жыл бұрын
@@PaintingandDecorating Surely most blokes will by default have a mix of tools, fairly safe to assume you've got battery driver drills, jigsaw etc... One thing I will grant is that the multi-tool blades can be expensive.
