Hey mate 👋🇦🇺. This machine looks very similar in style to the Fisher & Paykel ones that I have a lot of out-of-balance troubles with. So with these units the strange issue that causes out of balance is the holes in the spin basket are very tiny and get blocked with detergent buildup. So when spinning the water can’t easily spin out of the bowl and the machine will shake so violently it will dance across the floor. So for this case pressure cleaning the inner bowl (spin basket) fixes the problem. Anyway, great video, keep it up 👍 🤙

I have only seen one Fisher & Paykel machine in 6 years. I wonder if drilling some of those hole larger would fix that problem???

When would you use Ben’s shims over this insert? I installed a shim and metal hub on my last one and it wasn’t straight it’s wobbling and I stripped the bolt so now I need to take it to a welder to get the nut off so not sure if it was user error or the shim or what now lolz

I’d use them if I ran out of inserts.

Hi Chip, nice instruction! My machine is 4 years old and it's not being used in a big family, just me and the wife. It regularly goes off balance no matter what we try... My question is this something that should or could happen to a lightly used machine only four years old? I'm ready to scrap it... but if this will fix it, I'd give it a shot.

Unfortunately this repair hasn’t been time tested but it does look promising. And, yes, these machines were poorly designed and I’ve taken many of them to the scrap yard. Some only two years old. It’s not an expensive repair if you’re doing it yourself so it’s worth a try. Thanks for watching!

@@HarperandKnowles I spent the day re-leveling the machine, popped the hood and took a look at the springs. I don't believe they are the problem though, the 'shock absorber' function seems intact. I push down it comes back up and stops rather than bouncing a number of times (same like you would do on a car). What I DID notice when I had it opened up is that the INNER drum can easily be moved about a quarter inch side to side in all directions, relative to the OUTER drum. Does this indicate that the bushing for the drum is worn out, or is this a normal and acceptable amount of play? I hope the question makes sense! Thanks for any assistance you can offer. Also... and by the way... even without any clothes or water in the drum, when I engage the "Drain and Spin" function, there seems to be quite a bit of imbalance with the drum empty. I think that ain't right either, is it? Maybe that bushing in the bottom of the drum is worn out already?
@HarperandKnowles3 ай бұрын
If you have either of those machines you can bet on that bushing being the problem. Thanks for watching!

@@HarperandKnowles Thanks Chip, you're awesome. I have one more question though... I've looked and looked at all the appliance part distributors I could find, and none of the diagrams show that bushing (the orange one that you said appeared to be 3D printed) available as a part. Can you advise as to where it might be available? By the way, it's a Whirlpool WTW5000DW3 model.

Chip, great repair. The suspension rods, metal hub and the new tub insert look to be about $60. Not a bad deal to repair a washer for a customer, but the parts cost start to add up when it is a machine that you plan to sell.
@HarperandKnowles3 ай бұрын
Yeah, it’s a little more than that when you use the OEM rods. But I still make a tidy profit. Lol, I never seem to count my labor cost.

Man your tub went back in easy. I tried for thirty minutes to get mine back in and it still didn't fall back into place.

If you clean the shaft up real well with a wire brush and fine sand paper it usually slips right in. Thanks for watching!

Any tips for getting the spin basket out *after* installing the new bushing? It’s not all the way down and it also doesn’t want to come back up. 😑
@HarperandKnowlesАй бұрын
Here is a tip for when you are ready to reinstall the tub. Use a wire brush and sandpaper to polish that rusty shaft. Now, to get it out you may have to use a scissor jack and a two by four cut to fit just under the balance ring. Watch this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZbKeHqJp6ljp6Msi=Bf07UA8MJTpHCTS0 about 6:58 in you will see how I do it. Thanks for watching!
