To prevent volcanoes and bubbling around the nail tap ins, I have found using the round end of a utility knife to make small craters around the nail helps. Even though the drywall surrounding the nail may seem good, it may be compromised for a 1/4 inch surrounding it. I found this out the hard way after using latex paint as it will reveal any weakness that is missed.

Your new screws went right through the paper of the drywall again
@davidsmith26502 жыл бұрын
You drove your new screws too deep and you should have removed the old nails. Those didn't look like drywall screws either.

What size screw do you generally use and just timber screws? Do you spot paint or repaint whole area if its in ceiling?
@4vinylsound5 ай бұрын
You're putting your screws in too deep their breaking the dry wall paper which means they won't hold the dry wall correctly and you'll have the same problem again in the same spot.

Hi Bill, I live in a fairly old structure (1930’s queenslander), is there any (high) risk of the stud splitting when screwing above and below original nail/screw? Cheers and thanks for the great tips 👍

I had a new build. So I guess this is pretty common? Nothing to be concerned about? And lastly why do they pop out… is it caused from foundation shifting or?
@CyberTranceHero69 Жыл бұрын
I have the same issue newish built 2016. When they framed the house and installed the sheet rock the wood was damp. When the wood dried up the screw came out.

How do you so the ceiling

No it's different. Often ceiling nail pops are a result of drywall sagging down from the joist, so if you go to screw it up, the screw will pull up the drywall until it pushes through. Now your drywall is unsupported again. If you have a 2nd person, have them push up the drywall with a 2x4 few inches from where you screw in. That way the screw can secure the drywall flush to the joist without pushing through. If you don't have a 2nd person, screw in a piece of wood to hold the drywall against the joist. Then put another screw in the drywall to the joist. I put in 2 on each side of the nail pop, then one in the nail pop after the old nail is removed. Then remove your wood and screw in that. More holes to fill but the repair is much more robust.

Before I watch any further I will say never buy Milwaukee bits. I had a brand new set that broke multiple bits first use and a bunch more the second use. And before someone says "operator error" I have an old ryobi $20 set that I've never had one break on. That set has been used and abused for almost a decade now. Toss any Milwaukee bit set you have they are by far the worse. And that's coming from someone who enjoys/owns many Milwaukee tools.
