How to fix SHARE errors in GarageBand iOS

How to successfully share your GarageBand iPad or GarageBand iPhone project and ways to fox any sharing problems.

Hey man, need your help. I had a bunch of session on my ipad, which I uploaded to my google drive when I got rid of the ipad. I have all the .band session on my google drive, now when I download them on my macbook, at first when I try to open after the download it says "cant open this file", and on all subsequent efforts to opening it, it just opens as if I was creating a blank session from scratch. Any help on being able to access my ipad session on the macbook would be appreciated.

Thanks Pete, I hadn't noticed this issue before, at least not since I started to "open in" a mastering app before saving a finished file. Bit what I have noticed is that a get a .Wav file saved directly from GB even if I open in, for example, GrandFinale. One quick question - any idea why we don't see any wave forms when opening a .Wav file from the Files app? (Seems ironic given the filetype name!🙄)

Yup. Close everything, log out of everything, turn off and back on, then try again. It's usually as simple as that.

Sounds like you may be trying to export just a single sound, loop or track? Apple prevents this so folks don’t that’s use one of their loops or sounds alone.

Hey there. Alas the only way I’ve ever found to do this is to sync with a playlist on iTunes on a PC or Mac. There isn’t a way to send to the music app on your mobile device in my experience.

Unfortunately this is only possible using iTunes with a PC/Mac. There's no way to add music to the "Music" app on your iPhone/iPad.

I have to say I hadn’t noticed the save to files bug, as I export to AudioShare to trim the wav and then on to Final Touch to master. However, I did have an issue trying to send an iMovie file direct to KZbin recently. It simply wouldn’t work. I pulled the file in to KZbin rather than sending it from iMovie. As a result, I ended up with a 4K static video of the album cover. It felt like overkill, but it worked.

@@thephalcon9501 it’s not just me then? I created my video by saving the iMovie file into GarageBand File Transfer, then selecting it for upload in KZbin Studio. In a way it’s pointless because Distrokid sticks up a very similar video of my releases, but I like to add lyrics and some notes about the song and the equipment in the description. +1 on Final Touch. Great app.

I use an app called Reflector 3. It’s a paid app but works really well, though because it uses AirPlay it does generate a bit of latency.

That’s odd? GarageBand does use .band files but iOS usually hides these. Perhaps you’ve selected an option to show file extensions?

Not only my drums but my songs overall I got the foundations it just sounds like all my instruments overpower one another. And I see your videos and stuff but man its like nothing is getting through well to be honest I finish the song but the mastering part I hold for later and before I know it I'm on a different song telling myself that I'll get back to the other one later. And I only got about 200 plus only garageband on my iPhone on my computer and laptop altogether it's about 800 songs give or take. The other platform I use is ableton live. But even there I do the same. Any advice?

You’ll just need to add something custom like a loop or instrument so you are not breaching copyright.

Try logging out of everything (iCloud etc), then turn off, back on and then log back in to your iCloud account. Works for a lot of issues.

Sounds like you might have hit a copyright issue. Add in a drum track and hit a few drums then mute it. Should be golden.

As of today GarageBand is not letting me directly save my files to the GarageBand project file storage. I can however save my file to iPad or the Cloud and then once in a GarageBand project search for the file, find it on my iPad or cloud and then add it to the GarageBand files. Not a big deal, but additional steps suck.

Yes, make sure you’re logged in to iCloud. And then close all apps and turn off and back on your device.

Perhaps you’re attempting to share just Apple loops? You’ll need to ensure you’re sharing at least some sort of custom sounds in your project.

Here’s the problem that I’m having. So basically I’m using GarageBand just fine and the files aren’t corrupted at all. However when I’m on my PC, my projects on my iCloud Drive are shown as 0 byte files, yet my projects are still fine on my iPad. Can you explain why that is?

Jeremiah 33:8 I’ve gone right off iTunes since they changed the format of ‘purchasing’ - it’s long-term rental now and no chance of exporting to other apps of music I’ve had for years and sampled from, just for my own use. And all this subscribing now - there’s no need for all this greed. Good luck on iTunes though - I’ll check your music out! My ios17 app doesn’t appear to have SoundCloud at all in the options when I go to share it. I get as far as selecting the file type, picture etc and when I hit share it’s plenty of apps but no SoundCloud. SoundCloud just isn’t in the list of apps when I share, I get random ones like whatsapp messenger and Snapchat.. super annoying. And before u ask I do have SoundCloud installed 😅

It’s actually not a bug when it creates 2 mixed down files. You will find it’s classed as a Jew feature. If you save the initial file somewhere other that the GarageBand file transfer folder then immediately re open your GarageBand project you will automatically see a 1 in the top right hand corner. They introduced this on the last update automatically saving a copy to your gb file transfer folder. That is what my friend who works at Apple told me.

Gotcha! So they introduced a new handy feature but managed to break the actual “save to files” option at the same time. I guess that’s handy if you are exporting a loop and want to be able to quickly bring it in to a new project?

Pete Johns apparently that was the thought process behind it. For quick access to sample creation. But yes they broke the normal file saving option which apparently will be fixed in the next update whenever that happens.

Yup, this is why I generally just zip up and share these days using this method -kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJ2kk6mofcSUjsU To fix the issue you’re having, you generally need to close all apps, turn of and back ok and try again. It can also help to log out of your Apple or iCloud account and back in.

Haha! Apparently it’s only when you share it to the GarageBand File Transfer folder, and if you share it somewhere else it saves the file there AND in your transfer folder for “convenience”. 🤔
