Personally, I’d rotate the ship, so it’s facing sideways towards the blast zones and not directly at the camera. This would allow for more exploration of the top of the plane which not only gives more space, but creates a more compelling layout. Maybe you could stand on the blasters on the front and they could fire off sometimes to create a funny moment for anyone unlucky enough to be off the stage at the time. I think an amazing addition to the game would be a “competitive form” in addition to omega and battlefield forms. It would essentially remove the jank from the stages with cool layouts that could be competitive stages. Like it would flatten out Lylat Cruise and remove the tilting, fix the blast zones on WarioWare Inc., remove solid ceilings on Luigi’s Mansion, flatten out Pirate Ship and make it float in the air instead of water, give Norfair one big platform on the bottom, and remove the middle walls on Pilotwings. That and it’d be nice to be able to choose a specific transformation for a hazards off game like spirit battles does. It would be nice to be able to just play on the sunset transformation of Pictochat 2, the valley in 3D Land, the first transformation for Delfino Plaza, the first transformation on Town & City so it doesn’t have any moving platforms, the symmetrical transformation on Arena Ferox, and even the first transformation from the final stage of the World of Light. And I hope for new basic stages they at least get more creative with platforms. I don’t like how similar Midgar, Hallow Bastion, Yggdrasil’s Altar, and Northern Cave are to existing stages. Well done! I also adore the first boxing ring idea! I've always loved the stage for how the middle platform is designed in concept, but barely any of it gets used due to the side platforms! Some really cool ideas here, It's nice to see some videos trying to talk about and indulge in stage design instead of just simply fighter ideas. ive been thinking that someone or more should start doing some stage concept series to compliment. and its interesting to see the design process from those trying to come up with stages or alter stages in the game. even if I don't always agree. Like i don't think I agree with treating walkoffs as simply a kind of hazard. yes they can be cheesed, but like any element to stage layouts, there are generally risks and rewards to be had from trying to use them. and they can do much in distinguishing a stage from the rest, weather its in its layout, the way matches flow, or to the aesthetic of the stage overall. I wouldn't be so quick to try to mitigate or remove a walkoff simply because it can be cheesed by sweats. Your green hill idea looks interesting, but I also think It looks a bit aimless. It looks more like an attempt to just cram as much sonic stuff in a stage as possible than trying to give a more unique identity as a stage itself. the layout being a bit too random like if the mario maker stage was using Sonic assets instead. Regardless if one liked it or disliked it, the bowl shape and falling center gives Green Hill Zone an integral unique design aspect that distinguishes it from other stages. In addition, we also have Windy hill zone as a stage that already features a lot of different elements slopes, and various elevations while being on the bigger end. So if i were to fix Green Hill, i would go about a different way. One direction to fix it could be to do what many fan mods have done and make the main stage a flat segment like on top of the iconic shuttle loop, and having a swinging platform or two to provide some unique layout and distinguishing feature. Though I'd want to go even further. Instead of just having the single chunk of stage for the main stage, I would go the route so the stage is a walk off on both sides, however i would reutilize the gimmick the current GHZ already does only for the sides. so when enough damage is done to a side, it falls away and its no longer a walk off there for a time. And instead of the swinging platfom in the middle, i would have there be two well sized floating platforms on each side of the stage. With the defining element of the stage being that its based off the boss fight of the zone. Every so often, Eggman would come in with his iconic first weapon, slowly flying back and forth across the stage while swinging a big wrecking ball that deals damage and launches on hit. deal enough damage to him directly, and the weapon falls apart and he flies away to come back a short time later. If you wanted to really push the idea, you could expand his moveset with the weapon such as gaining more wrecking balls, or using moves like his desperation attack in Sonic 4, where he slams the wrecking ball down, which could destroy one of the floating platforms temporarily. Another way you could add to it is perhaps he has a selection of boss weapons to come out with, taken from other bosses of Sonic 1 or from the classic games in general. And even if Eggman were a fighter, you could do what the spirit train stage does and simply replace eggman with say an eggpawn if eggman were a chosen character for the match.

Something I really appreciate about your take on a "Fixed" version of Green Hill Zone is that you didn't just flatten it out and call it a day. I have nothin' against the Competitive side of Smash Bros, don't get me wrong it's partly what keeps the game alive, but I feel like when people try to fix Smash's existing stages or create conceptual new stages they just wind up making them really flat and boring to appeal more to the hardcore competitive side of the playerbase, forgetting that one of the biggest things that sets Smash apart from traditional fighting games is the fact that it's a PLATFORM fighter, a.k.a. a Fighting game with Light Platformer elements. Having Hills, Pits, Platform of varying length and altitude, and dare I say it: Stage Gimmicks make fights dynamic, tense and exciting. Stages are one of the things that gives Smash it's unique Identity that makes it stand out in the sea of 2D fighting games and I think it's kind of sad that in trying to "Fix" the stages we have people often rob Smash of it's identity by turning everything into a bunch of Pokemon Stadium/Wario Ware Inc Clones. Going into this video, and your previous video, I was worried that you were going to do the same thing but I was pleasantly surprised to see you do the opposite! Taking stages with loads of untapped, or misplaced, potential and actually finding ways of refining and reworking them in ways that actually make them more interesting and engaging to play on. Great Video!

My suggestions: * Green Hill should be longer, by that I mean there should be a length roughly equal to that of the lower right section added between the bridge and the walls, at least. It is Sonic's stage it should be long enough to demonstrate his speedy nature. Other than that, while I agree with the item boxes and springs, I think it would be funny it spikes only popped up occasionally in the gap near the lower of the right, temporarily removing the blast zone. Would act as a fun little reference to several well known spike pits in classic _Sonic._ Though to be fair it would only be there for like 10 seconds at a time. This isn't Mystic Cave Zone. * IMO it doesn't make sense for your percentage to rise just for being outside the ring, and while the crowd throw is fun, it also doesn't really make sense. Plus, Incineroar's trailer showed us why those paths are there: fighters need a way to get to the ring (and _Punch-Out!!_ itself is decently grounded for a Nintendo series). However, since you can't leave the ring in boxing and based on another commenter, have it so when a player lands on those paths, the Wii version's referee starts counting down from 10, with the number shown above your character (if multiple he follows the first but the others still count down). If it reaches zero, the character is launched into the air, but you can make it reset by spending more time in the ring. If the countdown reaches zero three times, your player is launched Jigglypuff shield break-style as the referee shouts TKO!, instantly KOing them. Also personal thing but the Omega/Battlefield version should retain the ropes, just with a gap for the player to move through. * There's a way to be more faithful to Temple's original game while retaining the basic idea of the Gloom. Simple, just have it so a part of the stage becomes infested with enemies from _Zelda II: The Adventure of Link,_ like Dairas, Iron Knuckles, Octoroks, etc. You want to go to the extreme add a Shadowy version of a randomly selected player every once in a while that acts like Ditto (Dark Link didn't exist in that game). That way they either disappear or you have to team up with other players to get rid of the enemies faster.

Honestly, I thought the GreenHill zone could fit well as a scrolling level like the Classic Mario Bros Stage where the fighting stage is scrolling to the right like a regular Mario Lvl. If I had to pick just one stage to fix, I’d pick the Great Cave Offensive. Like PAC-LAND, the Great Cave Offensive is very big and overwhelming. There’s too much going on and half the time, you don’t know where everyone is. The way I’d fix it is by making each section of the Great Cave Offensive be its own thing. Then we glue them together Castle Siege style. To remove campy gameplay and cheesy kills, there will be no walkoff areas. Furthermore, if you have the hazards on, some of the bosses that originally appeared in the Great Cave Offensive have a small chance of appearing. The more recognizable the boss, the higher the chance of them appearing.

The distant planet pikmin stage from brawl is in desperate need of a revamp. It has a lot of cool hazards but its all so scrunched together that they end up becoming annoying (ESPECIALLY the onions blocking nearly all the projectiles.) 11:05 This may have been a joke, but I actually REALLY like the idea of the walls there. A.) The temples in Zelda 2 were primarily underground, separated into layers via elevators, so having half/most of the stage underground, even implied to be in a mountainside is more accurate to the source material than the actual stage. B.) It still has this iconography of the open upper layer vs. crowded fight club bottom layer Temple is known for that doesn't interfere with the blast zones people aim for when fighting in the respective areas, only interrupting their escape options. And C.) I always found it weird that there was just this whole temple just floating in the sky? Like I know TotK and even Skyward Sword before it had floating islands, but this was way back on the Gamecube and Greek Ruin-looking temples floating on a hunk of gravity defying rubble above the clouds wasn't exactly an iconic Zelda location at the time, much less from Zelda 2, even with creative liberties. If I were to double down on the idea I'd leave the hole you said to lock up open and clog the left-most opening slit where the two thin platforms are to prevent the infinite running circle, but then replace it with an elevator-like structure somewhere in that general area that would periodically move down into the "fight club", pause, and move back up in timed intervals to unclog the hole and temporatily create an opening to pass through. This is to prevent the hole opening from becoming too chockhold-y while still being able to eventually corner campers. I would then push the right wall in the "Temple Jump area" even further right, as far right as possible while keeping a grabbable ledge up top, thin off some of the "fight club" island's right side and move the little "stone island" to the left, push the ceiling of that area into a dome above so that the area looks like a big circle, and add some additional platforms and floors to the now walled-off Temple Jump zone to allow for more fightable area while keeping the vast bottomless pit intact. Something like an identical "stone island" platform on the the other side of the pit with a broken bridge to have aesthetically implied to have connected the two (as reference to the falling bridges seen in some of the dungeons and caves in Zelda 2) and a singular, small, thin platform moving horizontally somewhere above the gap. Going with the idea that it gets more fight-centric the deeper down into the stage you get, (with the top layer being a wide, open area with the primary threats being the side and top blast zones, and the middle layer being famously nicknamed the "fight club" because of its close quarters, ceiling, and death pit to the left) this would turn the bottom hole into something of an arena-like area with plenty of open area above the widest pit on the stage and only one way in or out. This took longer to type than I care to admit.

Maybe in Smash 6? Idk, maybe they'll save the gloom hands for a new Tears Of the Kindgom stage.

Have Boxing Ring give your character a 10 count over their head once they’re past the ropes. If they don’t make it back in the ring, they just explode and lose a stock.

bold choice to rework temple, but i dig it

I think the actual Gloomspawn should be like a stage boss if it was on Temple. Let it grab people, and let it get killed too.

It would be cool if the ropes would slingshot you toward the the center of the stage if you get launched into them

I feel like for Green Hill Zone, just the jumping piranhas and items would be enough

You basically invented the Fortnite zone for Hyrule Temple. Which is actually a good fix.

Spiral mountain makes me sad. After someone pointed out Grunty should have a rhyme to dis all the fighters as an easter egg ala Shadow Moses. I can no longer go there.

As Mother 3 fan I find New Pork City a bit lackluster. The Ultimate Chimera appearing is cool and all, and it OHKOing you is genuinely perfect as that is what it does in the original game, but the design of the map is kinda... just not there? It feels cobbled together with little thought.

Maybe just pull a Minecraft World / Mario Maker / Mushroomy Kingdom (in Brawl) and have multiple versions of the same stage theme.

To be entirely blunt, Smash barely considered online play even in Brawl, and ultimate ported as much as they could from the older games so most of the stages are outright shit since they don’t really belong in this game So Green Hill being changed as much as you did would probably not fix the stage and would just make a new stage named “Ultimate Green Hill”

In another universe or timeline, Nintendo understood & all of these ideas were already put in the game.

I can understand why walk offs can be annoying, but I feel that some stages are meant to be that way (bridge of elden is a stage my friends and I play often)

7:04 Nintendoland music? Now that I think about it a Nintendoland themed stage would be cool (a sequel too but we all know that ain't happening)
