How to FIX the Volkswagen Headliners - Watch!

This is a video of how we fix the headliners on the Volkswagens that the factory glue pulls away from the main liner, we use a staple gun with quarter inch staples. This happens a lot in the 2006 to 2010 Volkswagen. The older Volkswagens 2005 and under have a very thin headliner and you can use headliner adhesive glue for them, very lightly. Do not try gluing these at all. Staple gun is needed.

I just did a headliner job in a car, and I ended up cutting the thing in half so I wouldn't have to take a window out. Glued the 1st half on before I put it back in and carefully smoothed the 2nd half in in place. Almost better that my cut wasn't immaculate, fit together like a puzzle. Few hours, $18 Walmart blanket and $15 can of glue, turned out close to perfect, better than I expected. Would have been perfect if I would have tracked down a grinder or wire brush, needed a bit more scraping. Good option for an older car when you want to keep the cost down.

Call a long nose, upholstery stapler.

Hi. In my mk5 from 2006 whole ceiling disconnected. Because in about 3 months time I will get newer car (but still can’t see this ceiling Everyday) I’m planning completely rip this off and brush off old glue. What do you think? Actually hold in one piece all 4 handles and little bit front sides. So what do you think?

I have seen a couple people still do it while the headliner is still in the car, but it’s a lot harder. I am showing it in the video is just a quick way not the correct way

Brush off with tire brush all this orange leftovers and actually now is good enough. maybe in the future I will clean more to 100% clear panel but for now I'm happy with final effect. Touched little bit with white spirit all handles so all back to white colour lol. Take care. Tom

Do not recommend staples. It will tear eventually and you won't be able to staple again because you won't have enough fabric. Reglue is the only lasting option.

You could use the staple then superglue like you would a wood joint and wood glue. I have used binder clips and superglue with pretty decent success.

Yes, we also do that as well on certain vehicles. This gets it by speed and efficiency. Yes, it’s not the proper way, but it works

I never understood why the headliner and the pillars are covered in cloth. It should be a molded plastic piece from the same material as the dash.
