How to Fix Toyota Trac Off and Check Engine Light on at the Same Time

Thank you!! Mystery solved in my case. The check engine and trac off light came off after a few days of my wife driving my 13 Sienna. Wasn't sure why when I went to drive it myself. Later in the day I filled it up with gas and tightened the gas cap thoroughly, as i always do. Within 20 minutes of driving after getting gas, the lights went off. My wife had put gas in a week earlier.

2016 Toyota Corolla had the track light and the engine light on. and I had to try several times to be able to start the engine after having poured gas at the gas station. It turns out that when I checked it was the canister purge valve hose that cracked, it was broken. I changed the hose and the lights went out. and now the engine starts at once. Incredibly, with less than two dollars I solved the problem myself.

The mechanic recommended replacing the entire assembly, just learning a few minutes ago that it could be a cracked hose so I'll be checking it all out tomorrow. Hoping to find some bad hoses.

I had a trac off and check engine light on my 2012 Carolla. My sensor code came up as P0607 which was not enough power to battery/ alternator. Checked my terminals, they were corroded so I wire brushed them with baking soda and water reattached after drying off and it fixed it.

When you disconnect the battery the lights will go away, It might come back soon if it didn't fix the issue

@@itzprozackthat’s exactly what mine did yesterday 😢 aside from that, the other problem is that my car is shaking abnormally whether parked or accelerating (I was omw home from work) so I pulled over to check the battery which did have some build up .. after cleaned it only temporarily fixed the problem until I made it home another 2 miles - currently waiting to get it checked out

I had the trac off and check engine light on, autozone was able to pull the code. It was P0455 and it required a gas tank cap. Replaced gas cap now, but how do it reset the dashboard warmings?

2008 Toyota sienna ce 3.5 engine light, vsc and trac off all on at same time, I've replaced both upstream 02 sensors and both lower sensor, mass af sensor, fuel cap, spark plugs, coil, and now fuel pump then cleared codes test drive and lights back on runs good though no rough running or anything . What else could it be?

02 Toyota Highlander - mine is a leak in the throttle body where the cable assembly connects to the body. Detected with smoke test. PO174 lean fuel. $814 throttle body is no longer available. Used ones are. No one I’ve spoken to has way to fix or seal the leak.

@@ethelwoodard8938 I brought it to the dealership and they fixed it by plugging air/oxygen sensor hose in the right place and reset the lights. Also the previous technician messed up my rotor back plate that was causing a scratching sound. Cost me another $250 but overall still saved 2 grand though compared to getting it done at the dealership.

Thanks for your knowledge. My 2001 4Runner has both VSC lights staying on, but with no engine check light too. They came on when pulling a trailer once, and lights went off a few starts later. Next time I pulled the trailer, it came on again with engine under a load? However, this time the VSC lights have stayed on. To fix the problem I replaced the gas cap, but also noticed that when filling gas tank, sometimes pump handle would shut off before tank was half full. Another related issue is an occasional PO330 check engine light happens under a load, without a trailer, but, for example climbing an incline grade. I did a bypass, a few years ago, on bank 1 sensor, and clear the check light each time it appears. It hasn't appeared for a year now. An odd PO420 code came and went on its own, but has not returned after it briefly appeared 4/23/24 (4 months ago). Can one of these codes, or other issues mentioned, and the VSC lights staying on be related? Thanks for any help.

I have a 2020 Trd pro manual transmission. On a road trip accidentally left the keys in the on position with the engine not running overnight and drained my battery completely when I jumped the vehicle and got it going again. The battery charged up fine and is not a problem, however, I have had the same fault you were mentioning which is track off and check engine light, but also I have headlight malfunction, vehicle, stability, control, cruise control, malfunction, precollision malfunction….. and now just today I am getting spark ignition, coil, failure, primary secondary circuit

Scan for codes to see what the issue is. I would also check the battery connections. The computers in the vehicle need a stable power supply, or they can cause random issues and throw out a lot of errors and codes.

2003 Sequoia with these lights on and engine code P0420. I ordered in and bought a new gas cap from the dealership. I reset the codes and they haven’t returned.

@ I used a basic OBD2 Code Reader and cleared the codes. If you don’t have one, you could disconnect your battery for an hour and reconnect it. I’ve driven 1,700 km so far and the lights have stayed off. I also make sure to get 4 clicks on the gas cap… not sure if it does something or if it’s just luck lol

I’ll just add that I saw cheaper gas caps available but decided to stick with original equipment in order to Strike the gas cap off the source of the engine light issue. I’ve read that sometimes aftermarket gas caps can be hit and miss with quality.

I replaced my reverse light bulb on the right rear. After doing this all the VSC, trac, 4LO, check engine lights came on. I went to dealer and they replaced the wiring harness that goes from tailgate to front of vehicle. Lights still stayed on. They then replaced the entire tail light assembly. Lights still on. Codes are C1201, P0761, P2714. 2008 toyota land cruiser. Also, my remote start will not work due to check engine light. Any suggestions?

Mine threw the same code, I changed my catalytic converter and it ended up actually being my O2 Sensors. Could’ve been a much cheaper fix, if I would have done that first. Note: bought after market catalytic converter I read a lot of times they don’t communicate with the O2 Sensors so purchased adapters to solve the problem.

I think mine is a sensor, but if I try to give it gas more than just allowing it to naturally accelerate, it will flash the check engine light, and the track light will come on however, the last time that happened to me my car was bogging, so I pulled over I stopped the car. I turned it off. I pulled the key out and then I put it back in. Turn the car back on and it was fine. This morning it happened and the track light is still on the check engine light has been on for a while now because there’s two sensors that I need and that’s like $300 for the both of them and I just don’t have it But the light did not go out so that is concerning because it is running rough And I use my car for work

Code did read gas cap. I had driven 2 miles with it off. Put it on. 160 miles LATWR on a trip and it shut off..the VSC off flashes on n off w the chk engine on ! So I got the correct gas cap and after 20 miles ITS STILL FLASHING ! So wth?

Here is a head scratcher. 2015 Toyota Rav4, 90k miles, oil change last week, battery is 1 yr old, just filled the gas tank. No problem starting the vehicle to start the day. Get to my destination and the vehicle is still running. I go to leave and the check engine light and Trac Off light comes on. I stop and turn off the car. I go to restart it, nothing. No lights, no power of any kind. Call a relative to come jump. The cables are on my battery and creates a spark when touched together. Hook them to his truck. Still nothing. Completely dead. I think that would rule out the battery, alternator, and starter. Got some fuses and changes out all of the engine related ones. I'm at a loss for why there would be total loss of power, even when hooked up to an additional battery.

If lights are on the dashboard, there is likely power. Since all the fuses are good, I would test if the battery is good and check the starter relay. If you have a scan tool, it is best to scan for any codes.
